I was talking more on the defensive side of the ball; I love what Pitchford brings offensively. UNK's 6'8" guys were having some success down in the post against us. And yeah, I didn't articulate that incredibly well in my OP.

I think I might spend a fair amount of this season wishing Pitchford were a different style of player. He looks good from the perimeter and will create some match-up issues, but who's going to be able to bang on the inside? Overall, I thought the defense looked weak, especially given the competition. UNK's low percentage is more reflective of their poor shooting than us making baskets difficult. All-in-all, Miles is pretty honest about how this team is going to look. It's going to be up-and-down, this team is going to give their all, and they'll get better the more time they have to gel.

This will sort of address the OP's question, but ultimately both sports have the same fans, but it's easier or more exciting to be a nebrasketball fan because of expectations. We allow ourselves moral victories in basketball sometimes, which would never fly in football. I say we have the same fans because whenever the basketball team starts trailing, the fans get taken out of the game way too quickly. I know this is tangential, but we tend to expect our teams to pick us up rather than the other way around. The Iowa basketball game last year and the OSU football game a couple years ago come to mind. Volleyball fans are possibly an exception to this rule because they always seem to be making their presence felt, but maybe that's just because they rarely lose at home.

That would really be a bad deal to lose out on some potential early season momentum because guys can't go.
