  1. Maryland Indiana Purdue Michigan State Northwestern Penn State Iowa too many question marks regarding the injuries---whether it is keeping players out or just the nagging kind of stuff.
  2. another thing i took notice of----right now there is no emotional leader on the floor. she is sidelined---and that's a huge hit to this team. geez, most of them look like they should be wearing a suit and tie to the games---or, pantsuit, whatever. if simon comes back and looks like she did before the accident, i seriously consider having her in the lineup with rachel and nat. clark had a couple of nice steals, but, i don't think you would have gotten any less out of simon. let her run with it and see what she can provide. also, i believe i heard matt say havers is "toughening it out" with a tweaked knee. guess it happened in practice. huskers just look soft------really soft. watching football most of the day. really surprised to hear penn st knocked off nw.
  3. imo, we now are seeing how smith leaving really hurt. not to mention the "other" debacle. need blackburn and simon to get healthy. depth is gone right now. period. really looking at starting out 0-3. anyone think theriot may be having problems? as in foot? coach was pretty much up in the air about RB43 during postgame interview. really could sense the disappointment in her voice. she knew this was a game they needed---even if it is only the first one.
  4. wow. just not very good. defense
  5. well, not sure iowa can afford to foul jess too much. unless they have everyone and anyone run at her. iowa isn't too deep at the post, are they? anyway, expecting a battle. the defense from nat, theriot, and clark will be telling, i believe. havers needs to be very active today!
  6. an undisclosed "illness"....it was anemia The condition of having a lower-than-normal number of red blood cells or quantity of hemoglobin. Anemia diminishes the capacity of the blood to carry oxygen. Patients with anemia may feel tired, fatigue easily, appear pale, develop palpitations, and become short of breath. Not rare, but It takes months sometimes to recover from anemia. My sister had it, and was on meds quite a while.. apologies----my memory is fading in my old age. guess i don't remember coming across a disclosure of what exactly it was. i just remember reading/hearing earlier this fall she was battling an illness last season (from coach yori).
  7. RB43 "questionable" for iowa??? hmmm, suppose it could be "flu" related in a way, but, find it hard to believe it is just from the flu. keeping fingers crossed she can give huskers at least some good minutes against iowa. it is starting to remind me a bit of what we now know about anya last season. coach yori had stated earlier this season that anya battled an undisclosed "illness" that may have affected her play last season. i hope we aren't seeing a repeat of that situation. guess we will have a pretty good idea a little more than 24 hours from now.
  8. OSU MICHIGAN RUTGERS HUSKERS NORTHWESTERN MARYLAND WISCONSIN
  9. down 1 for the season, but, bluder happy about depth: http://www.hawkcentral.com/story/sports/college/iowa/hawkcentral/2015/12/27/iowa-hawkeyes-rotation-depth-lisa-bluder-big-ten-conference-play/77742242/
  10. a few things fell in the right place for ao. namely timing.
  11. very nice "Q&A" read. (not sure if it is proper to state the magazine?) just a few highlights: basketball was her first love. really likes the physicalness of basketball. when she first thought of playing basketball (after vb), she wondered if she could play somewhere, not really thinking for the huskers. she also thought of playing sand volleyball somewhere---possibly overseas. when she had mentioned basketball to coach cook, he asked her if she wanted him to talk to coach yori. that got the ball rolling. stated she is always in the gym shooting the basketball---even during the volleyball season. it was a "stress reliever" for her. guess that answers some of the questions about her not picking up a basketball for four years---she shoots at the gym all the time. have to admit, i was one of them.
  12. just a little fun in trying to predict the outcome. huskers ended up 9-2 in the ooc. i kinda struggled with 8-3 or 7-4 and settled on 7-4. the main reason is because of the youth at some spots. they did have to fight back in a couple of games, which, probably wasn't a bad thing. you can learn a lot about your team when that happens. good and bad. as far as the BIG season: nothing new here, but, road games will be tough to pull out 'W's. i am going to say huskers end up with a 12-6 record. should put them in the top 6. i believe PBA will be very kind the huskers, but, they will need to stay healthy to obtain that 12-6 record. as the season goes on, wouldn't shock me to see a lot of jockeying for spots 3-7. think maryland and osu remain the cream of the crop in the conference, but, wide open for the next few spots. i also predicted the huskers would probably need a first game win in the BIG tourney to reach the 20-game win mark. well, huskers should have no problem reaching that during the regular season now.(crossing fingers) . don't mind eating crow on that one!
  13. very true, but, it is difficult to say. i know it's a shot in the dark, but, i would bet they are working on her academics. whatever it is, i hope she gets it all straightened out.
  14. if i went by what some of you are stating, makes me believe not to be surprised if Washington transfers after this year.
  15. waiting and willing! pound iowa!!!
  16. yep, maddie missed some court time, but, i think if there is someone that can bounce back fairly quickly, it will be maddie. pretty doggone good athlete.
  17. "I'm no doctor, but Maddie must of had something like a dislocated elbow...or something. If it were actually broken, wouldn't it have taken even longer to heal ?" redsteve i've been wondering the same thing. from what i could tell by just short tv sideline images, it appeared she only had the arm in a sling? i really didn't notice a cast, or a bulky type of support. when i hear the word "broken", i see images of a cast. i was wondering if it could have possibly been just a small "fracture". anyway, it appears she is well on her way to recovery! good news.
  18. just curious question for those more familiar with jshepard's past---has she always had trouble at the free throw line? i am sure she knows it is something to work on. with everything that has gone on the last couple weeks, timing for a break has got to be rather welcome. i'm just wondering if maddie won't be at least dressed for the iowa game? probably has some therapy to do with that arm yet, but, guessing she can't be far away. would have to say it is looking good for a return---soon. hopefully, the rest of the team can get healthy. like mentioned before, it was easy to see on rachel's face something isn't feeling right. so fun to watch nat when she "turns it up" and gets on a roll!!! we just started to see that part of her game at the end of last season. think i heard matt and jeff state (when kc was taking the ball to the hoop) that was the kendall clark they remember from her days at drake. not so much the 3's. nice to see her have a great game! no doubt, BTNplus was a bit of a pain last night---to state it mildly. i still listen to matt and jeff while watching the games on BTNplus. not synced, but, i prefer to listen to their call.
  19. granted, haven't seen ark st play, but, from doing a bit of reading i could see a "mini" version of cal. maybe similar play, they just don't have the length cali does. could see where very good passing/ball movement needs to be at a premium.
  20. Kalenta, finished with seven points and career highs of 14 rebounds and three blocks...... had four points & had eight rebounds and a block in the decisive third quarter. Wow has she improved....I think Connie said she had anemia last season....so explains a lot about last year. not sure exactly when it was, either just before season or shortly after ooc began, i heard coach yori state anya battled an injury and an illness last season but didn't specify the problem. great to see she has been very productive coming off the "chair". not sure what to think of KC. starting to see a trend---while a very important part of the product, i am not sure she is going to be the scorer some thought she would be (including myself). she may have a few games where she goes off, but, i am not sure she is gonna be as productive (re: scoring) as hoped. don't know if it's the injury, which, in my view doesn't seem to be bothering her---at least at gametime. maybe it's that she doesn't feel she needs to be the scorer. i really questioned whether the knee would hold up game in and game out, and thought it was possible she may have to give the knee a break here and there. seems to be holding up very well. hope the regular season goes as well as the ooc. and, btw, i just wonder the outcome of some things had RB43 been in there banging?
  21. yes. a bit surprised they didn't set an earlier time for today's game. the time has arrived. after today, the "Big O" will be joining the huskers. best of luck to the volleyball squad!!! GBR!
  22. "Apparently Auriemma didn't lose much sleep about it. The bench is full of H.S. All Americans anyway." and enough waiting in line. don't really see UConn slipping until Auriemma retires.
  23. yes, i watched all three of those games. at times, sdsu did a pretty good job of giving ND and Maryland's post fits, but, it was clear that's where the big advantage was (no pun intended). i was really surprised Maryland didn't take more advantage of the situation than they did. don't like to take anything away from the jacks, but, Maryland really did not look like the Maryland i have previously seen. DePaul didn't quite have the height advantage. it was DePaul's full court pressure that got them back into the game (plus jacks had one scoring drought in 3rd quarter). imo, it's just that real athletic post that would really help them get over the hump.
  24. yep, they can be very dangerous. the one thing they haven't been able to recruit is a tall, athletic post. the two gals they have at the post hold their own pretty well, but, it is obvious they struggle with top teams that have tall, athletic posts/wings. in the DePaul game, jacks led by 16 at one point in the 1st quarter, i believe. DePaul whittled it down to 3, i think, in the second half (not used to talking quarters, yet) but, jacks had an answer and then put it away with an easy layup and free throws at the end.
  25. northern arizona appears to be another one of those games where everyone should get involved. if huskers shoot the ball fairly well, could see another win by a very large spread. sorry northern arizona, no disrespect. it is what it is. northern arizona does not bring much height. arkansas state could be a different story. the two games they lost came by a total of 5 points---UT Chattanooga 55-54, and Florida 76-72. Florida should ring a bell with husker fans (hint: SGM). ark st may provide one final good test before the regular season begins. btw, ark st sits at #51 in the sagarin ratings---#64 in ncaa DI rpi.
