  1. Hearing that Texas Tech transfer Japreece Dean has shown a real interest in Nebraska for her immediate future. Dean, a 5'6 sophomore guard at Texas Tech announced her decision to transfer from the Lady Raiders just last week. Expect her to announce before the Christmas break on her future plans. She will have 2 and half years to play according to NCAA transfer rules. Dean ranked second on the team in points (12.5) and led the team in assists (3.3) last season. She also led all Big 12 freshmen in points per game, free throw percentage, assists and assist to turnover ratio and she was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week six times, the first Lady Raider in Big 12 history to do so. Lauryn Brooks the one time Indiana Hoosier takes over her starting role. Schools that she also has had some sort of contact with so far are New Mexico, Minnesota, Louisiana Tech and many mid majors in Texas.
  2. Nebraska did not recruit her. She and her parents set up a visit to NU to gauge what her chances were if she walked on. She didn't like what Yori told her and decided to pursue other interests.
  3. I got to agree with HB on Mickeala Shaw, The Huskers should of recruited that kid. She has turned into a great D-1 player.
  4. Good minutes from Riley Casio Jensen coming off the bench playing good defense and nailing a couple of nice three pointers. Love the intensity Nicea plays with on the defensive side of the game. Would like to see her shoot the rock at a better percentage though. Hannah W from what I can tell is making the most progress of this Husker squad. She had a great defensive stop on a third quarter fastbreak, and she hit double digits again coming off the bench, I agree with redsteve she should be starting. Nice comeback down 12 at the end of the first quarter to close it to within 2 at the half. Got to make our free throws going forward. The Huskers could break that zone for a wide open bucket if they would snap that ball around the arc instead of holding the ball when they catch it and letting the defense to get set up. The next few games are going to be really tough for this young team. Hopefully, they can come through these games with a great deal of experience.

Tip-off between the Huskers and Mavericks is set for 7 p.m., The Huskers head into the in-state showdown with the Mavs after battling to a 62-59 win over defending Mountain West Conference champion Colorado State in their final game of the 2016 Preseason WNIT on Nov. 17. All-Big Ten sophomore forward Jessica Shepard led the Big Red with 24 points, including the game-clinching three-pointer with a minute left. Shepard added 13 rebounds for her 12th career double-double to move her into the No. 12 spot on Nebraska’s career list. Freshmen Nicea Eliely and Hannah Whitish also played major roles for the Huskers in the win over the Rams. Whitish, a 5-9 guard from Barneveld, Wis., produced the first double-figure scoring effort of her career with 10 points on a career-high three three-pointers. Eliely, a 6-1 guard from Colorado Springs who has started the first three games for the Huskers, produced six points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals while helping to frustrate and foul out CSU’s reigning Mountain West Player of the Year Ellen Nystrom. The Mavs, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Brittany Lange, have battled to a 1-2 start that includes a 69-42 season-opening loss at Colorado State in the opening round of the Preseason WNIT on Nov. 11, and a 73-63 loss at defending Southland champ Abilene Christian on Friday. The Mavs got on the winning track with an 85-57 win over North Texas to close their WNIT trip on Saturday. All-Summit League forward Mikaela Shaw leads the Mavs with 14.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. She went 10-for-17 from the field in Texas over the weekend, after opening 5-for-17 in the loss to CSU. As a team, Omaha hit just 15-of-47 field goals, including just 3-of-14 threes in the loss to Colorado State. The Mavs were also outrebounded 39-29 by the Rams and lost the turnover battle 16-9. Shaw, a 6-0 senior forward out of Sandy Creek High School (Deweese, Neb.), averaged 18.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game last year for Omaha. She is one of four returning starters for the Mavs this season, joining 5-8 junior guard Remy Davenport (10.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2015-16), 5-6 sophomore guard Amber Vidal (5.9 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 2015-16) and 5-11 senior guard Abi Lujan (4.0 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2015-16). Dapprich was an honorable-mention All-Missouri Valley Conference selection as a junior at Wichita State in 2014-15. Another Division I transfer, sophomore Coutney Vaccher rounds out Omaha’s probable starting five. The 6-2 center from Yorba Linda, Calif., by way of Texas Tech, is averaging 6.0 points and ranks second on the team with 7.3 rebounds per game. She also leads Omaha with five steals. Last season, Omaha battled its way to a 15-15 overall record that included a 7-9 Summit League mark. The Mavs averaged 63.7 points per game while hitting 41.8 percent of their shots from the field including 32.7 percent of their three-pointers. They were also a solid free throw shooting team at 72.2 percent. However, the Mavs were outrebounded 37.1-35.7 per game a year ago, while suffering with a minus-3.47 team turnover margin. Omaha forced an average of just 11.5 turnovers per game in 2015-16. • Jessica Shepard produced her 12th career double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds in Nebraska’s win over Colorado State Nov. 17. It was her second double-double in three games • Shepard leads Nebraska in three-point field goals made (5) and three-point field goal percentage (.556), • Hannah Whitish produced her first career double-digit scoring performance with 10 points and a career-high three three-pointers off the bench in Nebraska’s 62-59 win over Colorado State • Nebraska freshman Nicea Eliely ranks second on the team in scoring (7.7 ppg), third in rebounding (5.3 rpg), first in assists (4.0 apg) and first in steals (1.7 spg) through the first three games of her collegiate career. • Nebraska will meet Omaha for the first time since running to an 80-44 win on Nov. 26, 2010. It will be just the second regular-season meeting between the Huskers and Mavericks since UNO posted a 76-74 win over NU in Omaha on Dec. 20, 1986. Nebraska leads the all-time series with Omaha, 15-9. GAME NOTES: BEAT THE MAVERICKS!!
  6. Right now Penn St giving #13 Tennessee all they can handle on BTN. Up by 8 with7:20 to go.
  7. After re-reading the above message I thought I better explain a little more of how the Raising Cane Challenge works. The premise of the contest is based on if the Huskers score more than 70 points and you're a season ticket holder you win a free meal with the purchase of a combo+drink at Raising Canes. The above contest is based on the actual Husker that scores the point or points to put the Huskers at 70 points or more. btw - I still miss the free gallon of milk that Russ's Market gave away to season ticket holders in the early Yori years, when they had to score 80 points!
  8. On the Haymarket Hardwood side of the forum they have the Runza Challenge. So in order to "keep up with the jones" so to speak, we're giving the women the Raising Cane"s Challenge. We'll keep the winners updated as they occur. Emily Wood - 1 Maddie Simon - 1 Jessica Shepard - 2 Hannah Whitish - 1
  9. Whitish for THREEEEE! http://www.snappytv.com/tc/3277710
  10. Williams presser. Shepard and Whitish talk to the press.
  11. Wow, just about let that one slip away from us. It was frustrating to watch at times. Need to do a lot better job on the help defense under the bucket. Where's Allie? These last two games she's been a non-factor, we desperately need her at the top of her game. From here on out I'd like to see them start and play Hannah Whitish and Nicea E. These two freshmen made a difference tonight. They both should be pretty good by the time the end of the year.
  12. I love the play the Huskers are getting out this kid, also. If I was the coach I wouldn't take her out of the game. With her in the line-up, usually something positive will happen! The sky's the limit for Nicea!

Tip-off between the Huskers and Rams is set for 7 p.m Nebraska will try to rebound from a 55-35 loss to No. 25 Missouri in Monday night’s Preseason WNIT quarterfinals at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The Huskers struggled offensively against a stingy bunch of Tigers. Sophomore Jessica Shepard was the only Husker to manage double figures, finishing with 12 points and nine rebounds, despite going just 4-of-17 from the floor and 3-of-7 at the free throw line. Freshman Nicea Eliely, a 6-1 guard from Colorado Springs, Colo., added eight points and eight rebounds. Eliely was the only Husker to hit at least 40 percent (2-5) of her shots from the field. Eliely was an All-Colorado Class 5A player at Rampart High School a year ago and is off to a solid start at Nebraska. She has started both games for the Big Red and ranks second on the team in scoring (8.5 ppg), tied for third in rebounding (5.0 rpg), first in assists (3.0 apg) and tied for first in steals (1.0 spg). She also leads the Huskers in field goal percentage (.400) and free throw percentage (.667). While the Huskers struggled offensively against Missouri, they have played solid defense themselves in each of their first two games. The Rams bring a heavy European flavor with them to Nebraska, including one player from Latvia, one from Denmark, one from Norway and five from Sweden. In fact, three of the Swedes make up 60 percent of the starting lineup alongside Denmark’s Sofie Tryggedsson. The only American starter in the CSU lineup is Nebraska native Hannah Tvrdy. • Nebraska freshman Nicea Eliely ranks second on the team in scoring (8.5 ppg), tied for third in rebounding (5.0 rpg), first in assists (3.0 apg) and tied for first in steals (1.0 spg) through the first two games of her collegiate career. • Nebraska and Colorado State have not met in women’s basketball since the 1996 NCAA Tournament. • Freshman guard Hannah Whitish also hit the first three of her career against UTRGV, while senior guard Esther Ramacieri set a career high by hitting two threes against the Vaqueros. Tip-off between the Big Red and the Vaqueros is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. Nebraska’s game with the Vaqueros will mark the first regular-season appearance on the Husker sideline for Coach Amy Williams. The former Husker (Amy Gusso, 1995-98) led South Dakota to 32 victories and a Postseason WNIT Championship last season. Williams was a two-time Summit League Coach of the Year at South Dakota, while leading the Coyotes to the conference tournament title game in each of her four seasons in Vermillion. Jessica Shepard, a 6-4 sophomore forward from Fremont, Neb., who earned first-team All-Big Ten honors a year ago, returns to lead an experienced front court. The 2016 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Shepard averaged team highs of 18.5 points and 8.6 rebounds in 2015-16. She also claimed Preseason All-Big Ten honors heading into 2016-17.Shepard produced 30 points and 13 rebounds in Nebraska’s exhibition win over Southwest Baptist on Sunday, Nov. 6 at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Senior Allie Havers, a 6-5 senior center from Mattawan, Mich., who averaged 8.3 points and 6.6 rebounds in her first season as a starter in 2015-16, pitched in 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting against the Southern Baptist. Probable Lineups Nebraska Cornhuskers 32 - Jessica Shepard - 6-4 - So. - F 22 - Allie Havers - 6-5 - Sr. - C 11 - Esther Ramacieri - 5-8 - Sr. - G 12 - Emily Wood - 5-5 - Jr. - G 34 - Jasmine Cincore - 5-10 - Jr. - G UTRGV Vaqueros 5 - Hildur Björg Kjartansdóttir - 6-2 - Jr. - F 43 - Tristan Murphy - 6-1 - So. - F 1 - Bernesha Peters - 5-3 - So. - G 4 - Idil Türk - 5-9 - So. - G 11 - Shawnté Goff - 5-8 - Sr. - G Scouting UTRGV The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros come to Lincoln to tip off a season in which they hope to contend for a Western Athletic Conference title. Coach Larry Tidwell and the Vaqueros return four starters from a team that went 19-14 overall last season, including 9-5 in the WAC on their way to a conference runner-up finish. Leading the returning players for UTRGV is 2016 WAC Player of the Year Shanté Goff. The 5-8 senior guard averaged 15.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game last season. She knocked down a team-high 67 three-pointers but hit just 28.8 percent of her long-range attempts. Bernesha Peters averaged 7.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists while making 30 starts as a freshman a year ago. Peters was even better in WAC play, averaging 10.5 points per game. The Vaqueros also have size and experience up front with 6-0 senior forward Mary Savoy and 6-2 junior forward Hildur Björg Kjartansdóttir. Savoy averaged a double-double with 11.7 points and 10.5 rebounds per game a year ago, while Kjartansdóttir pitched in 8.6 points and 7.5 boards to give the Vaqueros one of the most formidable front lines in the WAC. UTRGV must replace the contributions of Rickell Preston, a 5-10 guard who averaged 8.6 points and 6.5 rebounds in 33 starts as a senior captain in 2015-16. Rickell also led UTRGV with 62 steals. The Vaqueros must also replace the production of Anushka Maldonado, a 6-1 forward who averaged 9.9 points and 6.1 boards last season. However, Coach Tidwell and the Vaqueros have plenty of options for more production with a 19-player roster that includes 11 returning letterwinners. Tidwell, who owns a 52-45 record in three seasons at UTRGV, led the Vaqueros to the first round of the Postseason WNIT in 2016. As a team, UTRGV averaged 62.9 points per game last season, while surrendering 61.6 points per contest. The Vaqueros were not a highly efficient team, as they hit just 35 percent of their field goal attempts, including just 26.9 percent of their three-pointers. They were solid at the free throw line though, connecting on 72.3 percent of their attempts. UTRGV carried a minus-0.4 rebound margin last season but a plus-2.4 team turnover margin. • Nebraska is 40-2 all-time in regular-season home openers with its last loss coming to South Dakota State (68-49) on Nov. 19, 2005. • One of Coach Amy Williams’ primary objectives early in the season will be to find a starting five from a relatively inexperienced group of Huskers. Only six players on Nebraska’s roster have ever started a game for the Huskers • Although Jessica Shepard is just a sophomore, she is Nebraska’s returning leader with 29 career starts in 31 games as a freshman. • A three-year contributor on the court, 6-5 senior Allie Havers adds 21 career starts to Nebraska’s level of experience to begin 2016-17. • Nebraska is 3-0 in home openers since moving into Pinnacle Bank Arena for the start of the 2013-14 season. • The Huskers have knocked down at least one three-pointer in 251 straight regular-season games dating back to a loss at UTEP on Dec. 20, 2008. • Nebraska has hit at least two three-pointers in 130 consecutive games. • Nebraska set a season ticket sales record with 4,032 season tickets sold as of Jan. 31, 2016. It marked the first time in school history the Huskers sold 4,000 season tickets. Nebraska’s season ticket number for 2016-17 was 3,947 as of Nov. 1, 2016. GAME NOTES:
  18. Coach Williams post game presser. Jessica Shepard and Nicea E. talk following yesterdays win.
  19. Also, cudo's to Darrian Washington she played a good game today. Too bad the previous coach didn't play her more where she could have at least had some prior experience to get her more up to date for this years team.
  20. Well, it looks like this past week at practice we got better at least a little bit!! I say keep throwing the freshmen out there, we're going to need them sooner rather than later. And the more experience they get the better we'll be when the conference slate comes along. I thought Hannah Whitish has made the biggest strides from the exhibition game til now. Good to see Nicea get the start today she deserved it the way she played last week. Could even see improvement from Grace Mitchell, love the fight she has when she's out there. Missouri's is next and will be a much, much tougher test than what the Huskers faced today. Here's hoping they don't decide to throw a full court press on the Huskers!
