That’s very true. And thinking about it, that serves to protect coaches and schools as well as players. Players can leave if they don’t like it. Coaches can encourage hitting the portal when a player isn’t working out. At least there isn’t currently a big in-season form of a trade deadline. Could you imagine trying to hold onto players or add players in late January?

Anyone else remember when we were beating Illinois by 11 at the half in the B1G Ten semi-finals? We were damn good this year.

All the more reason coaches have to GATA. Every year.

Didn’t someone also mention that it seemed like a documentary style filming was happening incase we won the game? Maybe they were avoiding being with the rest of the team since they weren't really part of this year’s team?

When he graduates in 2028 it’s gonna feel like he’s 35.

The conversation over in recruiting about which guard spot Janowski is going to slot into helped me solidify how I feel about the portal this year. I thought I wanted someone who can get to the line, and someone who can defend at the basket. Now, I’m just hoping we are able to get guys we need to fill all the roles on the team, whether they’re the highest rated or not. If Fred and company see them fitting in a role, I want them. Come the first game, I don’t want our starting lineup to have anyone playing out of position because we NEED them to. Last off season we were really one, maybe one and a half deep, at the point guard spot. That one player was ruled ineligible around August (?) and we didn’t have a solid backup plan, and had Lawrence as our starting PG. He did as well as could be expected given the situation. But I don’t want him, or anyone else, in that situation this year. There will always be injuries, suspensions, and in the NIL age players could bolt at anytime. I hope through the portal this year, we’re able to build a roster that is robust to the inevitable player getting hurt, suspended, leaving etc. I think about how much it felt like our NCAA chances were gone when we thought Gary tore his Achilles. I don’t want a single incident like that feeling like we can’t overcome it. Kudos to the coaches for milking 40 minutes of PG play out of a few different players and still getting us to the dance. Let’s go build a roster now that can just work on getting better together, instead of having to learn how to play new positions.

The difference in PG and SG three point shooting is that the PG often has to create their shot using the dribble and on-ball screens, vs catch and shoot and off-ball screens. A good shooter at one spot isn’t necessarily going to be good at the other. I haven’t watched enough of his film to know which he excels at, or if he excels at both. If he is much better at one than the other, I hope we don’t try to steer too hard to the other to fill a roster need. We’ve seen that have mixed results with Brice and JLaw this past year. But I am right there with you, hoping he’s capable and takes the PG spot.

This is excellent for everyone. Except Louisville.

Alright, what do we got here?

I’m not so sure. That year we made a run at the end to get in. I felt good about our chances this year in early January.

The March Madness app supposedly has every game for free. I know it’s not Kent, but you need some way to follow it might be worth it.
