Iowa State now has commitments from two portal post players. It was thought that Kyle was priority #1 for them.
-
That’s pretty normal for lottery picks coming out as freshmen in college. The potential #1 pick was Colorado’s third or fourth best player. Kentucky has two of them this year who actually weren’t in the starting lineup.

I’m gonna disagree. UCONN is very good, but not unbeatable. Talking heads are saying they’re a historically great team and I just don’t think that’s true. They have had historically fortunate paths to two consecutive championship games. UCONN didn’t have too much for Creighton. Stylistically, Purdue is just a much better version of Creighton. Edey is the one guy in college basketball who can get Clingan in foul trouble and UCONN doesn’t have depth. Braden Smith will be key. Quicker, lower center if gravity guards (NC State and Tennessee) can get up under him and give him problems. That’s not what UConn has. Newton and Spencer are longer, but they do lack in lateral quickness. He could have a huge game, kind of like Ashworth did against them (and Smith is on a whole other level than that guy). I’m glad it’s a Goliath vs Goliath matchup. That doesn’t seem to happen too often. Purdue will be by far the most sound, disciplined team UConn has played in these last two tournaments. I’m taking the Boilermakers.

And another note: Washut predicts Andrew Morgan to Nebraska.

Another poster who was there (and had a picture to prove it) and talked to Mast says Mast told him he’ll be back and that Fred’s got a plan in the works.
-
Yesterday a poster on another board said he saw Mast in the Phoenix airport. His son asked Mast if he’d be back next year and he said he “should be”
-
Terrible hire. K-State was gonna fire him in 2-3 years. Now Arkansas will.

Jamarques Lawrence commented on that Instagram post with a heart emoji. Come on back JL. We’ll pretend you never left.
-
I think his NBA potential comp is more OG Anunoby than Jalen Rose.
-
Let's go!! Awesome to have two super seniors decide to come back for a 6th year of college basketball. And still possibly a third with Mast.
-
His high school film is about as good as it gets. Unlike many players who are labeled 5 stars just because of their length and athleticism, he actually looks natural and fluid with the ball.

Joe Tipton says Nebraska is a potential landing spot for Omaha Biliew. Along with Kansas State.
-
But if he chooses Minnesota, he kinda sucks imo
-
Payne is really just an interior defender. Kyle has more wiggle, would be much more versatile defensively so you could easily play him next to Mast. That said, I’d take either or both.
-
This one makes me wonder if Mast has decided to go play professionally. We’ll need post depth regardless.
-
Yep. If the Debbie downers viewed other programs with the same watchful eye as we do Nebraska, they would not be so down in the dumps. We’re in good shape and it will get much better in the next month or so.

Hickman would be a good addition. However, he’s from Bloomington and all his family is there. Indiana did an in-home with him and he’s planning to go visit IU. I don’t like that he wouldn’t visit Lincoln until after the dead period now.

Think all this just means we’ll be hearing good news pretty soon. Also can almost guarantee we’ll bring in another Diop-like high school recruit. It’s a lot easier keeping a freshman happy on the scout team than a sophomore. And a 6’10” guy with long arms is a necessity on the scout team.

Javian McCollum in the portal again. Interesting.

I’d guess >50% for sure. The successful transfers get all the attention, but seems like for every successful one there are 4 players who aren’t in the rotation at their new school. Everything goes in cycles and I do believe the newness of the portal will wear off and the negative side of it will come to light eventually. Pretty soon the “new thing” that wins out for both players and coaches will be consistent player retention.

He did play out of position for much of the year, but I'd argue he was allowed to showcase his skillset more so at Nebraska than he would just about anywhere else with our style of play and the freedom he was given. I just imagine him at another school in the same (or lower) tier as Nebraska. Where he'd probably get on the court because of his defense and effort, but may be a stand in the corner, yellow-to-red light off-ball guy on offense. At many other programs if you aren't "the guy", or one of the two "guys", you aren't allowed to play the way Hoiberg coaches his guards to play. Villanova would be a good fit. If he doesn't find an offense that fits him, might as well just stay here.
-
If it is true that the staff didn't expect or want JL to leave, I wonder if this is a case where the door will be left open for him to "re-commit" to Nebraska if he doesn't get the offers or attention he wants out of portal. I can think of quite a few players at other schools that happened with last year.

I’m not sure about that. I don’t think that lineup would finish 6th-8th in the old Big 12, which is what Collier’s and Sadler’s teams tended to do.
