Grand Valley State vs. Nebraska (Exh.)

I think Berke is a lot like me. You buzz your hair and as a result your body appears bloated a bit. -
A lot to like tonight. Business handled.

A lot to like, and yes, a few concerns. I really like Rollie running the point. He looks sooo natural. Still concerned with his perimeter shot. Brice and Juwan looked good. You can tell those two, along with Rollie are leaders. Meah is limited, yet what he does, he does well. We do not look like a quick team. We occupy space and look comfortable playing physical. I think the following is a good thing...our parts are interchangeable. If our players remain selfless, we can be good. -

Grew up with Wilson balls, glad they are back. Team chemistry still not there. Also, we are built for the Big Ten...we seem fast but not overly quick. Will quick teams cause us issues? Rollie is doing great! -
Yep. Smith is not as good without Eddy. He had zero assists with about 4 minutes left in the first half.

Man, it makes me thankful that most of my friends and family made it through routine procedures. I have lost two acquaintances while they went through common heart procedures. So you never take it for granted.

Collision in practice, concussion. Will miss practice game on Sunday, and then day to day.

I believe Rich King was on the Seattle roster as well.

2025 F A’mare Bynum -> Ohio St
Huskerpapa replied to Cowboy Kermit's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
There isn't an allegiance to the basketball program; but there are pockets of pro Nebraska with the coaches and players. Where you say 0%, I would suggest there are those that still bleed Nebraska red. Then of course there is football and baseball and many Olympic type sports that are solid husker red. -
My concern is that (1) Juwan will fall in love with his perimeter game and lose site with what makes him significant player for us (2) Meah is so limited offensively that it has a negative effect on the team flow (3) Berke is a black hole and that he will have problems sharing. Also, is he tough enough to survive in the league (4) Sam's defense and hustle languishes on the bench (5) Morgan doesn't get enough minutes (6) Brice has to carry too much of the scoring burden (7) Rutgers and Wisky lose time due to defensive inefficiencies. Other than those...

Since he's been away from the game for a year, I join you in wondering what to expect. Recalling his days at Iowa are hazy; but he seemed to be a good defender. Iowa played good team ball and his role seemed to be to penetrate and kick to shooters. His perimeter game was average to mediocre. I'm hoping that in his year with Fred, his perimeter game has improved; but we shall see. Will he be a Boogie Coleman clone???

Sort of surprising in my mind -
Note...this was an exhibition.

I put little to any thought into an exhibition win or loss. No clue as to who played, where they played, substitution pattern, plays ran, et al.

The NCAA was put in place to protect the student athlete. This occurred in the very early 1900's. The organization lost its way when money materialized. The governing body found that said money could enhance the universities that governed the organization. They concurrently lost focus on the very reason they formed; the student athlete. Change is hard. It is especially hard when those that must change, are financially damaged by the necessary changes. The schools are placed in position to share the windfall that they once monopolized. Here is the kicker...college athletics is a tripartite relationship. The universities and players are eventually compensated by the fanatics (fans). If what occurs creates too much financial and emotional stress on the fans, the entire group may fail. So long story short, it is time to reorganize the NCAA. What will the future hold?

...and almost 1/3 of OSU'S points came from the free-throw line.

For me, this is a disconcerting trend. Seeing it a few sports in Nebraska, including Class A football. Not sure why this is happening. Lack of interest? Lack of time? Lack of money? Video revolution? Here are a few sentences from a recent article in the LJS. You can get the full article from numerous news outlets: The largest high school in the state won't have a varsity girls basketball program this season. Grand Island Senior High announced Friday morning it had canceled the 2024-25 varsity season because no junior or senior girls had gone out for the sport. The shocking move comes from a school with a total student population of 2,070 in grades 9-11 — the largest enrollment in Nebraska. Grand Island's girls enrollment of 967 in grades 9-11 is also the largest in the state.

Your assumption is correct: http://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/virginia-coach-tony-bennett-chokes-back-tears-explaining-decision-to-retire-it-was-time/

Yeah, the timing of this is overwhelmingly odd. I wish him well.

"Line-Up of Death" Predictions
Huskerpapa replied to basketballjones's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Morgan looked good at the free throw line and has a piss and vinegar intensity. I will suggest he would be in the game at crunch time, perhaps instead of Berke. I am not yet 100% sold on Griffiths yet. Remembering last year and Sam's game, I am inclined to go with: 5. Morgan 4. Gary 3. Brice 2. Sam 1. Rollie. Things will play out, so hey, strictly guessing at this point. -

Part of the whites lack of assists, would be the Meah affect; he definitely restricts shots in the paint. -

Back from the BOB. I must say, it was cool to watch the game there. Good environment. No clue on attendance; but guessing a number between 2500 to 5000ish. Whether he wants the role or not, Brice is the leader. I really don't have many negative takes. It was a life-like scrimmage. A lot of good movement and pretty selfless play on offense. I know who started for the two teams, yet I'm not yet positive who the starters will be and what roles have been finalized. We do have quality depth, no question. - Brice was Brice. Well rounded performance. - Juwan looks strong. I pray that he does not fall in love with the perimeter. His shot looks fine, but they were not falling. - Berke is great, then he isn't. He can do a lot of great stuff; but sometimes the effort didn't seem to be there on defense. - Rollie is a good one. He made his only 3; but seems to rather facilitate then shoot. Good rebounder and defender. - Braxton is a dude. Kind of got knocked around a bit; but he knocked players around as well. My concern is with his limited offensive game. He only seems comfortable dunking. - Connor can shoot the rock and moves well. Umm, can he defend...not sure yet. He sometimes made me think that Keisei was a great defender in comparison. - Sam is Sam. He will have a role. - Ahron is interesting to me. He brings us speed. He passes and defends well. I think Rollie is the starter at point; but Ahron could easily step in. - I was pleasantly surprised with Braden. He is further along than I anticipated. Could he redshirt? Sure. If so it would be because of our depth rather than his 17 year old age. - Andrew is a good one. I really liked his performance today. He plays with a bit of piss and vinegar which I like. - Nick is a smooth operator. Honestly, his shot release is a bit funky and I could see him struggling getting his shot off in the league. But the kid has game. - Gavin struggled with his shot; but also showed his athletic ability. His shot is beautiful, I think he is a good get. - Cale could get minutes. I'm not sure where he can find those minutes; but he has the skills. - Justin could give minutes in an emergency...or he could redshirt. Anyway, just my humble observations. Fun day...and yes, the popcorn at the BOB is still the best. -

Heading to the BOB momentarily. A bit geeked about seeing our team.
