Nice article talking about Justin's maturation as a player... https://huskerextra.com/news/basketball/mens-basketball/when-did-he-start-hitting-3s-new-nebraska-walk-on-justin-bolis-no-longer-shy/article_13454ec6-0f01-11ef-9a9b-d36792e1a980.html?utm_source=huskerextra.com&utm_campaign=%2Fnewsletter-templates%2Flocal%2Fheadlines&utm_medium=cio&lctg=d0f30700f004f104&tn_email_eh1=506cdf81922d6d278df7d69dc93e6d60b8ea93ccd9fb2b9e4457552efca983ae

I wonder how it will work with Berke? In retrospect, how did it (or does it) work with Mast? I wonder how NIL money filters back into foreign born players these days? You simply cannot convince me that they are not getting their $$$.

We are now in Berke's top two and in line for an upcoming visit??? https://www.vanquishthefoe.com/2024/5/11/24153888/byu-basketball-transfer-visit-ucla-transfer-berke-buyuktuncel-france-maxim-logue-creighton-nebraska

Over the past two weeks I've seen Greta Van Fleet, Staind, and tonight, Lauren Daigle. Monday night I will see Cake at the Pinewood Bowl. A number of great acts will be there over the next several weeks. There aren't many music genres that I don't enjoy.

I'm hearing that Berke has us in his top five... Andy Patton of College Sports Wire mentioned five landing spots for Buyuktuncel, including a couple of Big Ten programs. Here are the five teams he listed: Virginia, Nebraska, Washington, Iowa, and Louisville

Other than Iowa.

Agree. And if he improves his perimeter shot, like I believe he will, he may very well play as many minutes as anybody not named Brice or Juwan.

Nebraska (30-15) vs. Minnesota (20-21) Series Game Thread

One of those nights. It is good that it ended with a victory. -
The problem is not necessarily just playing time. Each player has handlers and total free agency. Everything could be absolutely fine, and then another team steps in with the "right offer" and he's gone.
-
Berke (Bear Kay) looks good on the video I watched. Good looking shot, good hands, and some decent inside moves.

Good comparisons. A few additional thoughts on a few of the above takes... * I'm not 100% convinced that any of the players that transferred from our program were surprises to the coaching staff. Rather, they were given honest, post-season feedback by said coaches. In fact, a few players may have been told they could stay; but due to anticipated upgrades, they may not see playing time. For example, JLaw may have been told he wouldn't be playing point guard and he would be in direct competition with Brice, Sam, and Jano at the SG. Plus, we may even bring in another player in replacement of Keisei. JLaw may have acknowledged that and knowingly transferred. Just saying...kind of the same with Eli; especially with his obvious defensive deficiencies. * It appears to me that the coaching staff was trying to upgrade toughness, defense and rebounding this cycle. They did so; but not at the expense of offensive efficiency. It is tough to compare anyone to Keisei; he honestly is one of a kind. But we added players that seem to have offensive prowess and are likely stronger and bigger. So looking at our team, we still need that power forward who can stretch the floor. But what we may not be able to replace is the electricity that Keisei brought to the floor and bleachers. We also need to find the communication, character, cohesion and leadership that last year's team seemingly had. Those items may certainly be present; but until the season plays out, we will not know for sure

I believe, if we look back, most fans said our incoming transfers from last year were perhaps good, but not great. The same was likely said about our incoming freshmen. Our portal transfers fit like a glove and greatly enhanced our team. What makes me, at the very least, cautiously optimistic, is that Fred and the staff seemingly know what they are looking for in a player. So I guess, in Fred we trust. Umm, with that said, we still need a quality PF who can stretch the floor. And oh by the way...I believe Sam is going to exponentially improve his 3-ball this coming season.

On 3/4/2024 at 3:42 PM, Huskerpapa said: Anybody know much about a kid named Justin Bolis? He played at Lincoln High and is now at SECC. I believe he is in the 6'7" - 6'8" range and has springs for legs. A buddy said he is having a good freshman season in JUCO. Could he be a Josiah type player for us?
-
Yeah...
-
Geez, I know that name from somewhere... I think this is a good get. He really seems to have matured into a good player. Welcome home Justin! ***Bolis averaged 15.5 points per game as a freshman and will be a preferred walk-on for the Huskers.

Rom(m)el was a Nazi general, famous for leading the Panzer Army division in Africa during WWII. He died of forced cyanide poisoning. Ramel, hinted at being injured, yet that was never really confirmed. What was "injured" was his perimeter game. He never found his shot. It appears Long Beach may be a much better fit for him.
-
If he gains some muscle, he should be able to play minutes. If you play Brice, Juwan and Griffiths at the 2, 3 & 4, you likely can be creative on both ends of floor...especially if you have a rim protector erasing possible mistakes.
-
Yes. Literally overall game. As mentioned, within that depth, are players that simply would plug a hole. For example, on our trip to Italy last summer, Cale was required to play minutes at center. That is actually laughable, yet it filled a gigantic void that existed. My look explored the flexibility that Fred's system seems to allow.

I'd be disappointed with our University if we did not let this happen. This was perhaps one of the worst kept secrets as well. This news simply confirms what has been floating about for several weeks. Here is hoping and praying that surgery and recovery goes well.
