I wonder if the athletes that are being recruited to BYU are told the whole story. Maybe so. Maybe all colleges have the same, or similar student codes? Absolutely nothing wrong with requirements such as these, as long as the students are aware of the rules going in. https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fimgv2-2-f.scribdassets.com%2Fimg%2Fdocument%2F357660069%2Foriginal%2F1c461c6c7c%2F1714230641%3Fv%3D1&tbnid=ifgGpz9JpP4V6M&vet=1&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.scribd.com%2Fdocument%2F357660069%2FChurch-Educational-System-Honor-Code&docid=xw-sKVD9CYozUM&w=768&h=1024&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim%2Fm1%2F6&kgs=8e157e8cfa7010da&shem=abme%2Cssic%2Ctrie https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fi0.wp.com%2Fwasmormon.org%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2021%2F04%2Fbyu-honor-code-jesus-logo.jpeg%3Fresize%3D640%2C635%26ssl%3D1&tbnid=0BLmNOprtI5pwM&vet=1&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwasmormon.org%2Fbyu-honor-code-dress-and-grooming-standards-mormon-facial-hair%2F&docid=NJJs4E8IWnlMAM&w=640&h=635&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim%2Fm1%2F6&kgs=fedaed7540ea569d&shem=abme%2Cssic%2Ctrie

BYU loses one???

Here is a start. Alleviate contact. If you call some contact; but not all contact, it creates controversy for the referees. Soon, players will understand and adjust their games. Secondly, review the rule book. Remove all rules that will not be enforced. Any rules left, enforce them. Point being, the inconsistancy of calls create the issues. The timing of calls create issues. Non-calls create issues. Next, remove the human element from the equation where possible. Officiating at any level and in any sport is a thankless job. Most officials are competent and strive to do the right thing. And oh yeah...players and coaches need to shut the f*** up. All calls are not wrong. The constant complaining ruins the flow and joy that a game should bring.

I've come to understand and accept that college basketball recruiting (both men's and women's) has dramatically changed. Yes a battle seems to have been lost, but the war is far from over. For example, it seems we are now seeing foreign born players finally finding landing spots. There are still portal athletes and JUCO players and a plethora of high school juniors and seniors available. Obviously some better than others. So although I am concerned about front court depth (both men's and women's) it is too early to throw in the towel.

...and another foreign born player commits, this time Illinois gets a top rated 6'6" guard from Lithuania. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/40233577/source-lithuania-kasparas-jakucionis-commits-illinois

Step Aside, NIL. NCAA Is Here To Save College Sports

Chuck, I don't have answers to your questions per se; but those questions apply to many aspects of life. For example, why have traffic rules, as they are broken nearly every day, by nearly everyone? And damn the police for their audacity of stopping just me, when everyone is breaking them and not getting caught??? Without rules, you have chaos; which is what we seemingly have now. It appears that college will now have pro sports. Soon, high school administrators will face the same issues. Somehow, parameters, regulations and rules need to be established. The new college reality is here. Workers Compensation, employment laws and so forth are now in play. Man, this will be an interesting ride. -
If I recall the story about Wooden and Walton's hair correctly, it was a classic. Walton was a true hippie and showed up for a pre-season workout with his hair grown out. Walton knew Wooden would seethe about it; but thought he could somehow get by with it. After the session, Wooden approached Walton and before Wooden could say a word, Walton went on a long-winded explanation as to why it was important to keep his hair long. Instead of debating the subject, Wooden simply replied, "You are right Bill, you should keep your long hair" and walked away. Walton was ecstatic, he won his right to have long hair. The next day Walton came to the workout and was greeted in the locker room by Coach Wooden. Walton had a big ol smile on his face UNTIL...Wooden asked him what he was doing at the practice. Walton looked incredulous, and fumbled out that he was there for the team workout! Wooden simply responded that Bill misunderstood his response from yesterday. Then Wooden calmly said, "Bill, I respect and support your individual rights and your desire to keep your hair long. However, this is a team, and this team must be cohesive and it does have rules that all members of the team must adhere to, and one of the rules is to maintain short hair. So Bill, life is full of choices. I can certainly understand and respect your individual right to maintain your long hair as a citizen of this great country. Or you can cut your darn hair and remain a member of this team. Your call." Walton left and got his hair cut.

Ummmm. Come on, let's formalize it already!!!

A wild thought...college sports have now become a morphed minor league sports bastion. Players will "graduate" from minor league college programs to major league sports such as NBA, WNBA, NFL, MLB and so forth. I mean it has always been that way; but before, players seemed to play for the school, so to speak, and now they will be playing for dollars and major league preparation. Now the big questions will be how long the mega donors will continue to blindly fund these minor league institutions AND how long will fan support continue for these programs AND how long will networks pay and prop up the funding of the minor league programs? Sports are an outlet for fans, and popularity can change generation to generation. A generation or two ago, baseball was, by far, the national past time. Soccer was something played overseas, not here. But things change. I am not a doomsday type of person; yet college sports in general is going to start changing fairly dramatically. Definitely great for the players in the short term; but I am worried about the future of college sports...at least a bit. -

Hard for me to take solace with the win tonight, after the train wreck of an opening game. But, we play on. -
Keon was Keon Edwards. He transferred here from DePaul. Thought he was going to be something, and then he wasn't. Started for awhile because Trey was hurt.

How 'bout this one... If it's so small it has to be hid, have the courtesy to lift the lid!

One observation is that she is playing as if the weight of the WNBA is on her shoulders. All the while she is despised by half the league while the other half is jealous. I will make one comparison; when Tiger turned pro, he had similar reactions from other pros. Due in part to his race, while also maintaining a rather brazen attitude. However, many of his adversaries soon learned that his presence put major dollars in their pockets, and many of the enemies became friendlier and much more welcoming. Clark is a positive for that league. The league administration understands that; but will the players understand that Clark could bring them major $$$?

It's not the only article out there Matt; I simply used it as an example to reinforce my point. Anyone who reads the article can recognize the date on that specific article and dive in to further research on there own.

I will add a bit of fuel to a fire that already may be burning pretty hot. The articles I have read regarding BYU's recruiting, such as this one: https://www.vanquishthefoe.com/2024/5/5/24149078/byu-basketball-recruiting-notebook-may-5-keba-keita-chaz-lanier-berke-buyuktuncel-tranfer-portal Does not seem to place Berke as a priority recruit. He appears to be more of a secondary player. I cannot believe a kid with this advertised talent will hook up with a school that doesn't have a "major contributor role" defined for him. Perhaps I am missing something? But between the whispering I have heard, and the articles read, I have to believe Berke is ours if the price is right.

WTH...he is right handed!
