  1. I'm in suspense. Can't wait to see how this one plays out.
  2. Now that is a hot take. Hope you're right...but I don't think you are. Will be fun to report back here in a few years (if anyone remembers to).
  3. Statistically speaking, your statement is false. Not saying whites and blacks are treated equally by law enforcement (they're not, as this study proves), but in a potential life-or-death situation like that they actually are. https://scholar.harvard.edu/fryer/publications/empirical-analysis-racial-differences-police-use-force And logically your argument fails too. If a white (or Asian, or Indian, etc) dude with an open warrant for a violent crime, and with a history of assaulting police officers while being arrested for past violent crimes, resists arrest before calmly walking to his SUV and reaching his hand in-between the driver/passenger seats (all while being instructed to get on the ground), he would be shot too. That's why every year there are 400 white guys shot and killed by the police. Violent white guys resist arrest, too. Again, I come back to the examples where it truly does appear racism (whether systemic or overt) was the cause of death. The Elijah McClain death is particularly disgusting, and it angers me that no charges have been pressed after an entire year. But to use a rapist resisting arrest as the rallying cry? Pass.
  4. I struggle with the current Jacob Blake protests. My heart breaks over so many of these recent police brutality cases -- George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain, and more. I've been fully onboard with the need to stop glorifying Confederates and to rename all the Robert E. Lee high schools. And I absolutely think that walking out on a basketball game is the correct way to protest. But my problem is this -- why rally around Blake? Of all the recent high profile shootings, he is the least sympathetic victim. He has a warrant out for his arrest for rape, for crying out loud. In a town of only 100,000 people, the cops had to have recognized him instantly from the open warrant, which means they also knew his history of assaulting a police officer among other violent crimes. Then he resists arrest (again) on Sunday, and is seen reaching into the SUV after repeatedly being told by law enforcement to stop. And there are three kids in the backseat, so the cops are going to be even less inclined to allow Blake to initiate a shootout. All of that...and yet this is the guy we are burning cities over? This is the guy we hold up "we love you Jacob" signs for? I don't get it. Maybe someone can fill me in on what I'm missing, but I don't see how this case even remotely resembles the McClain or Floyd brutalities. At this point it just seems like a portion of the country wants to watch America burn.
  5. Call me crazy, but I think 230 games is a sufficient sample size to know what a coach can and can't do.
  6. Sounds like reasonable, well-thought out decision making to me. And honest too; keeping Nebraska on the list would've been the easy (but dishonest) thing to do. Maybe some of the adults on this board could take a maturity lesson from this 18 year old kid.
  7. The Sixers may very well hire someone other than Jay Wright. I'm just saying that the rumor they'd be interested in Wright was obviously going to come up. He's uber successful, residing in the same city, and has always carried himself like a professional more than college coach. Sixers being interested in Jay was about as obvious as Nebraska being interested in Frost.
  8. Ogden. Only been here 6 months, and we adore it here. The thing we love about Utah compared to other mountain states is the ease of outdoor recreation access. We live close enough to the trails that I can hike Malan's Peak or Waterfall Canyon just by walking out my front door. I have three different ski resorts only a half hour away. I'm 20 minutes away from Willard Bay, or Pineview Reservoir, or Antelope Island. And yet I live less than 10 minutes from downtown. I've never seen anywhere else in America that has that mix of urban and mountain activity.
  9. "Jay Wright to the 76ers" is the most obvious rumor in the history of coaching carousel rumors.
  10. If he had it narrowed down to 6-8, then the he likely would've made a Top 10 just to get a nice even number. 12 is an oddly specific number, which tells me that those are the schools that still have a shot. Not an equal shot obviously, but enough of one to still be under current consideration.
  11. Surprised there's no chit-chat on the NBA playoffs, especially considering the lack of Husker athletics to follow. Who y'all rooting for? I've always been a bit of a LeBron fan and Laker hater, so my LeBron fandom is a bit muted this year with him wearing purple and gold. Now that I live 45 minutes from SLC I've taken a greater interest in the Jazz, who are looking good in their series with the Nuggets.
  12. Well this is a tasty little morsel from Jeff Faraudo, a pretty connected freelance writer out in California. "He’s drawn interest from Cal, Stanford and Vanderbilt, but may be thinking Nebraska." https://www.si.com/college/cal/basketball/cal-summer-recruiting
  13. Obviously we all really want Sallis to end up here. A homegrown 5* is rare. But I really, really like this kid. He's got such a good head on his shoulders. Humble, smart, dedicated, and loads of natural talent. He's a surefire, can't miss, star.
  14. Back to football, there's a rumor that six B1G teams still want to play and are trying to sort out how to do a home-and-home with each of the other five teams. Rumors like this are typically unsubstantiated, but in this case there are some connected people doing the reporting. Gives me hope that there is truth to this rumor. https://247sports.com/college/ohio-state/Article/Ohio-State-football-still-working-to-create-new-10-game-Big-Ten-schedule-150445186/
  15. PAC-12 still plays basketball? Huh. Who knew?
  16. Fort Collins is a fun town, too.
  17. So is Shamiel the only one we are waiting on?
  18. 2020 is not the year for spending money on statues.
  19. What a weird day for my two professional teams. 1. Sporting KC breaks futility record for most shots without scoring a goal, and then advances via a penalty kick shootout against Vancouver. Oh yeah, and the match ended at roughly 1:30am in Florida, where it was being played. 2. Phillies lose series to the Marlins (seriously, the Marlins?) and then get quarantined after the game when it is discovered that 8 more Marlins players have COVID.
  20. I know my first response was a bit tongue in cheek, but in seriousness I would count it. The field is likely going to expand to more teams eventually anyways, so I don't think in the long run people would look at Nebraska's hypothetical win as needing an asterisk. I'm sure we'd catch some grief from Creighton and Iowa fans for a bit, but eventually no one else would remember the uniqueness of the victory. It would just be a '1' in the victory column and nothing more.
  21. Yes. Wait, let me think about it a littler harder. OK, yeah that's still gonna be a yes for me.
  22. This is disconcerting. The fact that LJS and OWH both just overlooked Shamiel, makes me wonder if they know something we don't. Something like "oh yeah, we forgot that no one had officially announced yet that he's no longer on the team. Oops." Call me a pessimist if you like, but the pessimistic viewpoint has been correct way too often when it comes to Nebrasketball roster turnover. The Roburt Sallie saga made me this way and I've been salty ever since.
  23. Fireworks in the very first minute, glad I got up on time. Match started at 07:00AM for me out here in Mountain time. I *barely* resisted the urge to run up and down my street chanting "SKC! SKC!" after Gerso sealed it; there's just something so sweet about living 40 minutes from your rival and then beating them. I mean, anytime we beat RSL it's a good day. But after moving here in the spring, it is soooooo much better this time around.
  24. Played fantastic against MUFC but took a loss. Played like crap against Colorado but got the win. Soccer can be weird sometimes.
