  1. That's a fair counterpoint. Depressing, but fair.
  2. I was thinking about that too. Better camera angle, and just maybe that Puncec goal counts. Not that 3-1 would have mattered, but the second MUFC goal was also literally inches away from being offsides. That's a two goal swing by a collective 7 or 8 inches. Down 2-1 in the locker room feels a whole different than down 3-0.
  3. -Thor should turn it around. He was over 40% last year until that awful slump in the final two weeks. -Kobe will almost assuredly turn it around. He has been anywhere from a 33%-41% 3pt shooter over his career. -Shamiel I hope is better than his current numbers. Yeah he was at 38% in '17-'18, but that was based on only 1.3 attempts per game. So who knows. -Banton doesn't look comfortable shooting behind the arc. I think the numbers you see are what you're going to get. He's a Ben Simmons type player and we just need to be OK with that. Still a fantastic player overall.
  4. I've been thinking more about our offensive identity and team makeup, and I'm actually getting more optimistic that we can make some noise this year. While the deep shot hasn't been going in at a high clip yet, there are enough guys with a good looking stroke to assume we will have some nights that flat-out scorch the nets. That, combined with good defense, gives you a puncher's chance against Top 25 quality teams. And on the flipside, we also have enough athletic guys that can get to the rim consistently to avoid the annual letdown loss to a 200+ RPI team. Win the ones you should, and steal a few with a hot shooting night. I think we can do that.
  5. C'mon man, he already is our biggest threat on offense. Everyone is falling in love with Lat (who is the best deep shooter but is offensively limited otherwise) and Dalano (whose length and vision are awesome but is inefficient and gun-shy when dared to shoot jumpers), but Teddy was the best all-around offensive weapon through the first three games.
  6. Teddy *seems* to take and miss a lot of bad shots from long range, while Lat *seems* to be deadly accurate. That's what my eyeballs were telling me this week and it seems that is what your eyes were telling you too. However, the statistics don't back that up. Teddy is 6 for 19 from three (31.6%) while Lat is 8 for 22 (36.4%). Small sample size obviously, but just based purely on the numbers neither had a great first three games from deep but they were still two of our top three shooters (Trey was tops at 40% from three). Interestingly enough, Teddy is also within striking distance of having the highest overall FG% on the team at 47.4% (Webster is inching him out at 47.6% and Shamiel was an "en fuego" 66.7% from the floor). It will be interesting to see how these numbers fluctuate as the data size expands, but at least from the early returns I think Teddy needs to have the green light from anywhere. He is a far cry from 2-for-11, regardless of what it seems like. As for Teddy's defense, yes he bites on passing lanes a lot and leaves his teammates playing 4 on 5 at times. The flip side of that is that he has 1/3 of the team's steals (13 of our total 39) while no one else has more than 5. I will take that tradeoff as long as he continues to create fast break chances off of defensive aggressiveness.
  7. I am surprised how good we have looked defensively. Forcing lots of turnovers and contested shots, Banton's length at the top of the key is cluttering passing lanes, and Trey looks the part of a lockdown defender. Offensively, we looked out of sorts. Guys lost confidence and were hesitant to pull the trigger when open. This game reminded me of the Doc Sadler era, but from the other side of the fence. So often under Doc we had teams that were out-talented but forced the opposition out of their comfort zone. Ultimately, Doc's teams often found ways to beat a superior foe. That's what today looked like to my eyes.
  8. Why does a team with no fans have a message board?
  9. Pike with a lot of leg hair. Guess we shouldn't expect him to grow into a contributor down the road.
  10. where's Andre? Not in the game with a 40 point lead...hmmm.
  11. I'm glad we still can't make a free throw. Otherwise I wouldn't recognize this team at all.
  12. Well we clearly know the planned rotation now based on first half minutes. Teddy Banton Trey Thor Lat Yvan as the rotational big. Kobe as the rotational guard. Shamiel as the Swiss army knife.
  13. 70% from three is acceptable.
  14. Thor and Kobe first off the bench. Yvan the 8th man in the rotation?
  15. Banton got robbed on that continuation, should've been an And 1. He's just so long that it looks like a secondary basketball move rather than a continuation, but I'm pretty sure he gathered the ball prior to the foul.
  16. LOL, sorry if I was harsh. You just touched on one of my big pet peeves -- bad math!
  17. Putting my previous comment a different way, there's a reason why MLB stats calculate 'wins above replacement (WAR)' rather than 'wins above guy who goes 0.000 at the plate and commits 5 errors per game.' You don't assume that a replacement player is replacing complete ineptitude, you assume he is replacing average production.
  18. A guy going 3-for-7 every game would only add 9 points to our total if he is replacing shots that would have gone 0-for-7. That's a ludicrous assumption. Instead of 0 points, the replacement value should be: 9 - (season avg points per shot attempt)*(7) = ??? I'm not going to look up and calculate our advanced team statistics, but I'd assume the points per shot hovered somewhere in the vicinity of 1.0. So really the difference would be 2 points per game, not 9.
  19. https://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/husker-forward-walker-suspended-for-violation-of-team-and-ncaa-rules-while-at-tennessee/article_d2647f71-c6b1-5164-93c5-e507ad167a31.html In answer to some earlier questions: No, this is not new news. DW told the coaches about it when Nebraska was recruiting him as a transfer candidate. The penalty of 16 game is supposed to be half a season. DW is getting the short end of the stick in this 'rona season, since we'll be lucky to get 20 games in this year. The length of the suspension could theoretically be shortened via appeal.
  20. Wow. Great question. Here's my shot in the dark...hopefully at least one of them is correct. Ryan Anderson, Nate Hawkins, and Bear Jones.
