Samford (7-4) vs. Nebraska (7-4) Game Thread
brfrad replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Samford has us playing out of control. 6 turnovers in 4 minutes. Not good. Defensive pressure is pretty good on our end, though, forcing tough shots for Samford. -
Hammond is really starting to show some signs to be optimistic for his future. I know he is our best defensive post player, and it isn't even close. He needs to get 20 + minutes a game. If Jacobson can start to play defense and gain some minutes that would be huge. There is still improvement for his future. He needs to develop some offensive post moves. He needs to gain some muscle where the bigger players can't move him. He needs to shoot free throws better. Minutes distribution I would like to see Center- Hammond 25 Jacobson 10 Morrow 5 Power Forward- Shields 15 McVeigh 15 Morrow 10 Small Forward- White 25 Shields 15 Shooting Guard-Webster 30 White 5 Watson 5 Point Guard- Watson 20 Parker 20 Total Minutes (games dictate these) Shields 30 White 30 Webster 30 Watson 25 Parker 20 McVeigh 15 Morrow 15 Jacobson 10 That gives us the chance to play Hammond/Morrow at the same time. That combination is avg. 4.0 offensive rebounds a game.

Nebraska (6-3) vs. Blueturds (5-3) Game Thread

I think you're overstating the effect of the T. After that we still had it down to 6 at half. It had nothing to do with horrible effort the second half. No I know but the T made a longer fight from behind. It was at 8 and ballooned to 14 or so. That changes the way the team plays for the rest of the first half. Miles had to have White calm him down otherwise he was gone barely into the game. I thought it changed the game. Fair enough coz...but in Miles' defense, that was a HORRIBLE call (or non-call, I don't exactly recall, I'm about 6 Ny-Quils in at this point). I just remember he was justified in getting on the refs there. The Creighton guy had a clear moving screen. Which they claim was a point of emphasis. -
uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: Vol 8, Issue 10 - Creighton
brfrad replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This team is going to struggle on the road in Big 10 play. We are too young. The freshmen were awful tonight. 3-16 from the floor. 0-3 from 3. 2-3 from the free throw line. 8 points between them. Plus, terrible defense. McVeigh, Watson, and Jacobson played awful on that end. Need them to show up, especially on the road. Poor effort from the start. Miles struggled tonight. Let them shoot over 50%. We have to get to the free throw line. 13 attempts is not enough, especially 2 in the 2nd half. We have no shooters except White, and he missed open looks early to stop some runs. We struggled down low. We knew we would. Hammond is our best post defender. I still think he is going to be good before his career is done. Groselle is a senior with one post move. He would seal the defender on his left hip. The entry pass would go to the baseline, and he would make an easy lay-up. You have to learn to defend that better, and get on his right hip forcing him to go to his right. -

Need to look at the positives. The last time we loss in Omaha to Creighton, we finished 4th in the Big 10. -

Especially with a young team and how easy they were getting baskets during their runs. -

We are going to lose a bunch more games if we let teams shoot 52% against us. We still don't have enough shooters to keep teams from packing the lane. -

Benny, Tai, Shields, and Watson were 8-29 from the floor with 19 points, 8 assists, and 9 turnovers. That's not good. -

Also, decided to let Creighton get uncontested shots in the 2nd half. Defense has been awful tonight. Creighton has shot 56% in the 2nd half. Defense has to be our calling card. It was a putrid defensive effort tonight, and it started right away. -

Absolutely no reason to double on that side of the floor. He has zero moves to his right. -

No open lanes. Jays daring us to shoot and we only have a few willing to shoot it.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk When they converge on the dribbler, need to get someone moving to the rim, and an outlet at 3. -

I thought he played horribly the first half of the half, like the whole team. The 2nd half he played much better. Watson and Benny have really struggled tonight though. -

Too many 3's attempted by us. Need to love the rim. Play defense. Much better effort down the stretch of the 1st half. -

That's not good. It seemed like when he got in the game, they struggled to score inside. Morrow and Jacobson have struggled defensively. -

Luckily, we have gotten to the free throw line, otherwise we would be down, right now. -
