  1. Since the Shim-Shams were mentioned in this thread, I note the new trend in the NBA is having a dance squad of, shall we say, "temporally-challenged" individuals performing at games. I think they started in Oklahoma City, but are a feature at several other venues now and are quite popular. I never envisioned the Shim-Shams being "cutting edge" when they performed here. I know they were a feature at Bob Devaney, but have they been invited to the Pinnacle too?
  2. I'm a little disappointed since I thought this Fred was one of the easier ones. Suffice it to say, I always preferred Benny when I used to listen to them on the radio.
  3. Good luck to him. I can understand wanting to play in front of family and friends and he really seemed like a good kid during his time in Lincoln.
  4. Last Fred of the day...and he was not a ballplayer.
  5. Yes, Fred and Ethyl Mertz were Desi and Lucy's neighbors. Fred was played by William Frawley, who was reported to be somewhat of a jerk in real life. Onward to some sports Freds.
  6. If he goes they might as well let Bardo go too.
  7. Could you summarize it, Matt, and release the whole thing in about a year?
  8. Well done! I think he was on both Green Acres and Petticoat Junction. Those were the days of cutting edge humor. I believe both series might have been filmed in Iowa. And now on to another tv Fred.
  9. Let's stay in the tv genre.
  10. For some reason I keep getting a monthly free magazine called the Trumpet which keeps insisting that the Holy Roman Empire will be coming back any day now. I do like the photo and might photoshop Hoiberg's face onto it if I only knew how to do it.
  11. Sweetest swing in golf. Couples was waiting in the wings so I'll skip to someone else.
  12. To be precise, Frederick the Great was Prussian, and GW kicked his mercenaries' butts in Trenton. I only featured him because his expression indicates he has been watching the Red Sox stumbling start to their season. I'll go ahead and put a less dour Fred on in a bit.
  13. For all of the history buffs.
  14. And we have winners! The Hammer had a pretty sweet Hollywood career after they carted him off the field in SuperBowl I.
  15. So they closed the museum after Bob passed. Wonder when the sign will come down? Next you will tell me that the Spam museum in Austin ,Minn. is also closed and I will have nothing to pass the time.
  16. That's ok. I haven't scraped the bottom of the barrel yet. Even have a father and son combo left.
  17. I never realized Iowa and Nebraska had any animosity. Having just spent a night in Des Moines (Ankeny, actually) they seemed to treat us pretty well. I even discovered that Gordon Lightfoot would be giving a concert in Cedar Rapids in June. He must not be as dead as I thought. It is a very boring state to drive through, although for the umpteenth time I neglected to stop at the Bob Feller museum which might have spiced up the trip.
  18. Darn it! Freddy Fender was suited up and ready to go. "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights" might serve as my motto on HHC.
  19. They were very good but were killed by the Jayhawks in a game I saw at Allen that year. KU had Al Lopes, Jojo, Walt Wesley (one of my old Walt avatars), Delvy Lewis, and Ron Franz. somehow they got upset in the regionals that year when Texas Western won with Moe Iba as assistant. I think NU ended up losing to Marshall in the NIT.
  20. Nice work col.! Arbanas was the tight end on the Chief's team in the first Super Bowl. He played at Michigan and was popular in KC but some guy sucker- punched him on the streets of KC and he became blind in one eye. He then came back and got a ring on the team that won the fourth Super Bowl over the Vikings. I loved the Stram/Len Dawson teams and used to run into players hanging around the bars downtown on occasions. Jim Tyrer once gave my dad a free HS letter jacket as a kickback when he was HS principal which he passed on to me. He was a salesman during the off season when offensive linemen didn't make much. I think the statute of limitations is probably up on that one. And I actually forgot about staunch conservative Thompson, who once ran for president I think. My next avatar will also be a Chief, which should be easy.-
  21. You guys are getting too good. I had Krueger, Gwynne and Savage on the bench. now work on my one eyed football player and then I will have to start calling on my more obscure Freds.
  22. Bingo, now for some more KC folk
  23. Anyone who saw the Fairbury Giant perform should qualify as well.
  24. Dave Garroway will be shocked by the lack of recognition for his buddy, J.Fred Muggs so I will switch to someone more identifiable (at least to K.C.fans).
