  1. And yet another. Who knew this legend's first name was Fred??
  2. Another person who needs mention on this thread. He played high school ball in Topeka and was the center on the unbeaten UCLA team with Walt Hazzard (from my Walt avatar HOF).
  3. He obviously was not cultivating his mustache.
  4. "Poor,Poor Pitiful Me" by my favorite late singer, Warren Zevon. And for those who are still interested in random, non-basketball crap which only has meaning to old Jimmy, I also found this tidbit while looking up Waring- My favorite part of his old radio program was a segment of "Little Orley" stories which were narrated by "Uncle Lumpy" Brannum who played the sousaphone in Waring's band. It turns out that Brannum was the same Hank Brannum who gained more fame in early tv as Captain Kangaroo's dopey sidekick, Mr. Greenjeans. I hated both of them since I always had to hurry off to school while my preschool sibs sat comfortably watching these guys on tv, usually about the time "Mighty Manfred the Wonder Dog" appeared. (There, I got another "fred" into the post! And I'm not making any of this stuff up).
  5. Since the thread now appears to have finally ended, I'll impart one final bit of trivia regarding the above guy. Fred Waring was a famous and popular bandleader and chorale leader in the days of radio and was approached by another guy named Fred with his idea for a new kitchen appliance which he had invented. Waring felt it was an idea which merited his backing and began a company to manufacture the gadget. It caught on and became known as the "Waring blender". So the next time you enjoy a margarita raise your glass to a couple of Freds who made it possible.
  6. Surprisingly good game. Maybe because I watched the first 10 minutes, turned to the American Idol, returned to the game when Va was comfortably ahead in the second half, realized that I had lost my cell phone, spent 15 minutes searching for it and finally found it between the seat and console of my car in the garage, and returned to find it was 59-58. Also got too tired to see the "One Shining Moment". Too bad Bobby Knight couldn't have shown up to compete with Mahomes for camera time.
  7. Fred Grandy(one of Iowa's most illustrious citizens). This thread is proving to be as hard as Michael Myers to kill. And how about my mother's favorite bandleader. We used to listen to him and his Pennsylvanians on the radio every day.
  8. Time for Bill Walton to step up. Who wouldn't want to be the best coach in the best conference.
  9. Oh frabjous day! Calloo, Callay! - "Jabberwocky"
  10. Funny, but probably as apocryphal as most "Yogi-isms".
  11. I do not detect a giant wave of anticipation for the matchup tonight. Anyone pumped to see this who doesn't live in the one of their states or have one of the teams as their bracket winner?
  12. "The Right Stuff" and "Tremors" -how could I forget this Fred? Even with a direct link to Kevin Bacon!
  13. Yes, that very photo was an avatar briefly. Lynn, Rice, and Dewey Evans was one of the best outfields ever. Piersall, Jackie Jensen, and Williams are also up there. But last year's group surpassed both groups, at least for one year.
  14. The mother lode of Freds just keeps giving. I think it has now exceeded the legendary lost cache of Walters.
  15. Another forgotten Fred! I preferred him in "Flubber".
  16. Yes, some may not realize that Graham was a real person who had only one at bat in the majors and later became a medical doctor. He didn't resemble Burt Lancaster though, having more of a "pencil-necked' appearance. And for those who are curious, my favorite Burt Lancaster roles in addition to Moonlight were Sgt. Warden in "From Here to Eternity" and the title role in "Elmer Gantry". (To my knowledge he never had a hidden connection to Nebraska sports, however, like Bruce Dern).
  17. And jayschool also gets an A minus for his course in Fredish 101. Obviously the art of the comb-over was not taught in Germany, thus proving Donald's daddy was indeed born there. I will now close this game and hope that Moonlight has accumulated a bit more mojo with his time spent on the bench. Thanks to all for playing and I think getting more than 1300 views on this topic says something about HHC members-I'm just not sure what. And now back to Nebraska basketball.
  18. Wow, I am impressed. You have an A minus now Auroran. Federico isn't even technically a "Fred" but he did make some good films. Now on to the grand fred-nale.
  19. You now have an A-minus, Matt. I had missed this 1990's movie entirely but the late Gene Siskel once said it was the worst movie he had ever seen. Now on to another hard one.
  20. Told you there would be a father/son combo. Now I am down to my last three Freds. I would not have gotten any of them so if anyone gets one in my little game, they get an A-, two will get an A, and all three will get an A+
  21. Ok, I'll buy that as long as you don't crank it up really loud when you are on the treadmill. And it's Prinze, just to have the correct spelling because of his tragic end.
  22. You do realize, Cip, that you have entered the alternate universe?
  23. Ok, fair enough.I never thought Fred Allen was very funny anyway. George and Gracie were a different story. I have a few more relatively easy ones and then will crescendo with a trio of Freds I wouldn't have gotten myself. Actually, I would have neglected Right Said Fred since "I'm Too Sexy" almost plummets to "Muscrat Love" level on my personal playlist and I never knew the name of the group.
