  1. The episode of "Better Call Saul" I watched last night may at least have put Omaha on the map for the fly-over types. Heck, it even had a mention of Bo Pelini, Taylor Martinez, and Dr. Tom thrown in.
  2. Kansas basketball violations: NCAA should drop Jayhawks' recruiting case, Dick Vitale says (247sports.com) KU has already imposed its punishment by keeping Self from recruiting this summer. Now if they just impose a $5,000 fine it will equal the sanctions given to the Bluejays, and we can all just move on.
  3. Jerry West rips JJ Redick over 'plumbers and firemen' remark (nypost.com)
  4. Too bad he never knew that.
  5. I found this interesting-especially since I occasionally use Moonlight as an avatar. Page B5 | Lincoln Journal Star e-Edition, a digital replica | journalstar.com
  6. Would that be called A Bridge Too Far?
  7. Let's hope he does better than Karl Malone. I just hope he plays like Karl this year. MALONE GETTING OUT OF TRUCKING BUSINESS - Deseret News
  8. We will probably have some ups and downs and the venerable "Rock Bottom" thread will be consulted on more than one occasion. We will have a few upsets along the way, and we'll all become modestly optimistic when they happen. Then at the end of the season we will fizzle out in a big game just enough to not get any post season invitations because the league will be considered "down" this year. We will then all troop back to our basements and eagerly look forward to the next year. I hope I am wrong, or maybe I have been watching too many reruns during the pandemic. The saddest thing is I have begun to enjoy them.
  9. Thanks, Cip. Oh, to have a president again who could inspire rather than criticize.
  10. That is debatable.
  11. I have to agree with the Marquette take. I wouldn't mind watching a Bluejay/Jayhawk yearly "rivalry". The University of Kansas Should Join The Big East - Anonymous Eagle
  12. I remember the little glass bottles of Coca-Cola on ice too. Since they were washed and recycled, they had the original city of origin on the bottom and the one from furthest away would have to buy pop for all the other guys who got one for themselves at the same time. I think they were 10 cents apiece, but they might have been 5. I also liked the Grapettes, but my Dad favored Cream Sodas
  13. Anyone else remember when comic books cost a dime?
  14. Barry expressing his excitement at being the NU coach.
  15. But who will be the comet?
  16. To finish off this thread I would like to acknowledge that the Warriors were the better team this year and Curry deserves to be rated as one of the best NBA players ever. Did I watch any of this year's finals games to its conclusion? Nope, and didn't eat at Applebee's either. I watched the lightning and hail show outside. And the new Jeff Bridges show, "The Old Man", was pretty good too.
  17. Played at Pius too.
  18. Handy: You are mixing up Sarandon and Robbins with Jack Nicholson and Lang. Actually, Sarandon and Nicholson appeared together in "The Witches of Eastwick". I understand that all four were seen eating at Applebee's last night to straighten out the confusion. Burt couldn't make it since he is deceased.
  19. Does Robbins have any eligibility left?
  20. I quit in the third quarter and watched an old episode of "Combat".
  21. Just to finish this thread appropriately, I do plan to watch some of tonight's playoff game, but I doubt I will watch to the end and will certainly not dine at Applebee's. It brings to mind the first games I can remember viewing on tv. Our family got a tv set late, when I was in the eighth grade. I remember watching Wilt Chamberlain's Jayhawks beat a Jim Krebs SMU team in an NCAA regional game on my grandfather's old black and white screen with a huge rotating antenna as my first college game. My first pro game was one I saw at a friend's house featuring George Mikan's Minneapolis Lakers. * Additional facts of historic interest:1. My Dad's prediction that pro basketball would never be popular because "the game would always move too fast for the camera". 2. Jim Krebs played for seven years on the LA Lakers and became the only NBA player to be killed by a falling tree.
  22. Sorry about the strange thread, Chuck, but it was simply an attempt to assess the fervor of the posters here for the NBA. I am probably one of the bigger fans of basketball here but have lost the enthusiasm for the NBA which I used to have. I don't dispute your assessment of the skill of all the players you named, but the strident support of political causes by coaches like Kerr and Popovich have dampened my interest in the league as did the league's outright catering to their Chinese market. When Enes Kantor Freedom is allowed equal time and back on an NBA roster, my interest may increase. Meanwhile I'll probably watch some of the Celtics series (because I like underdogs). And I didn't eat at Applebee's either.
  23. Just so I get this straight-He will be a true freshman on next year's team? Is there a chance he may grow a bit more before he arrives?
  24. Those who stalk out before the end of NU games should take note of this result.
  25. ...long enough to see the Celtics beat the Warriors last night. As an old school Celtics fan who once had courtside seats on the parquet at the old Garden, I was so pumped about the NBA finals I forgot about the game entirely. Kudos to anyone who actually watched to the end.
