Nebraska is like Missouri. Flat and Farms.

OR Missouri regarding farms. Last time I was there it was littered with K-Mart sized stores that sold nothing but guns, fireworks, booze & porn. -
March 26th, 10:00 am - 3 year extension

Mike Reily did something even Bill Callahan couldn't do: make Nebraska football irrelevant. Callahan made 'em bad, Mike made people not care, especially Nationally. We're all excited about Coach Frost, I get that, I am too. But the Basketball program is in a hell of a lot better shape right now than the Football program is and it's really not that close. I believe Tim is the right guy, and he's got this thing heading the right way.

Walk into Allen Field House sometime, take your time, look around. Look up in the rafters and see Wilt Chamberlain's jersey hanging there... then ask yourself that question again. Even K-St has a pedigree to fall back on, as do the Shockers. Name recognition means a lot, and you don't build up your Cache' overnight.

Well Tim is 97 - 97 at Nebraska, which is a solid C+, right in the meaty part of the curve. Not lagging behind & not too much of a show off either.

Okay we have the typical doom and gloom post

Could Dakic and Aaron Craft get in Ice Cube's 3 on 3 League? -
Tim did a nice job this year. Roby improved dramatically, Copeland was as good as advertised, Palmer was surprisingly All-B1G and Tim was able to massage all the egos, balance PT and keep the roster in tact. Why people even debate keeping him mystifies me, I'd hate to begin another search HOPING we could do better.

Nope, the game I'm referring to was on 12/08/02, Drevo went for 27 & Nate Johnson 14. Conk & Drevo do like alike though in a dopey white guy kinda way.
-
I went with Barry, Miles, Doc... speaking of Barry, I was living in Mpls. when we knocked off the Gophers & Andre Drevo really lit 'em up that night. So I was at the "Y' the next day and these guys where bitching about how some "dopey" walk-on from Nebraska had beat 'em, all I could do was smile and laugh.

Had Nebraska Weslyan not won their Conference tourney, they would NOT have received an at-large bid to the DIII Tournament, and look how it turned out for them. Basketball being the wonderful crazy game that it is, is usually a sport that's won between the ears more often than not. You can't "measure" or "qualify" what you saw over the weekend, just appreciate it and be thankful Nebraska will be at LEAST 10th in the B1G pre-season poll.

UMBC would not have even made the Dance had they not hit a buzzer beater against Vermont in their Conference tourney. It's a terribly fickle and humbling game, look at the scores today, Auburn, Carolina, Cincinatti... WOW. I'm ready for the Huskers to be on the right side of the ledger next year with the Basketball Gods on OUR side.

Just think if Creighton had 13 Big East wins and was given a 5 seed in the NIT, (I KNOW they beat Villanova) Shatel's hair would be on fire.
-
Creighton apologist Tom Shatel tried to explain away their 1st round flop on Friday, dragging out a lot of familiar old saws, citing injuries (of course) a lack of toughness and an inability to take their unbeatable "brand" of basketball on the road. He then took a parting shot at the Big Red stating that a team like UMBC wouldn't spend time worrying about their seed in the NIT.

My last comment was more on Society in general than specifically sports. A lot of people think LeBron James is the greatest player of All-time because he's playing NOW. He's as much a product of his time as he is his talent. When Magic scored 42 to win the 1980 NBA title, that game was broadcast at 10:30 tape-delayed after the local news. That's unthinkable now. What UMBC did is certainly an ALL-TIMER, but it's important to keep things in a proper historical context. ;

I'm sure there are a few Toasts being made this morning in Aggieville to the Retrievers of Baltimore County!
-
The Retrievers of UMBC taking down top seeded Virginia was certainly inspiring and historic and all the post-game talking heads were quick to get caught up in the moment. Was it the biggest upset in Tournament history, yes. Biggest in College basketball? No, that's still Chaminade over Ralph Sampson & Virginia. No one on this years Cav's roster is even close to Sampson. Someone even said the win was bigger than the "Miracle on Ice", that doesn't even warrant a response. Everything happening NOW isn't automatically bigger and better than what has come before...

Since I'm now relegated to taking pleasure in others misery I had to smile as the Bluejays turned in another gutless 1st round performance. I must admit though, I really felt for the Creighton fans while Marcus Foster wept on the bench in what will be his last game... *just kidding*

Idea for NCAA Tournament

Is there some way we can get Nebraska Wesleyan in?
