That's a pretty challenging slate. One that looks like it was set up to make an NCAA Tourney run. Very curious to see how this group handles that challenge. First look puts Gardner-Webb in the Incarnate Word/Samford seat.

Worst case, if it doesn't work out...he's asked to transfer after the season ends. I don't think you'd see Nebraska ask a 4th year guy who was a "please join our team" signee to transfer under any on the court circumstance. If my Math is correct we now have 1 scholarship open for 2017. I'm playing the what if game here...but if Evan Taylor is not able to provide valuable minutes next year I think he will be a likely transfer candidate. And I'd imagine we will be signing more than two recruits in this next class. What's the transfer rate of juco transfers? Pretty low, I'd guess. Deverell Biggs, Myles Holley, Quincy Hankins-Cole, Shang Ping, B.J. Walker, Joe Holmes, Michael Hughes, Amos Gregory, Deak Vance, Danny Walker, Kevin Augustine, Demetrius Buchanan, Kamyron Brown, Jose Ramos, and I'm sure there is more. It happens. Higher than I thought, actually. Though Biggs was actually kicked off the team before transferring, but still, more than I expected.

There's only a certain number of offensive possessions in a 40 minute game, though. If Petteway is able to score more readily because of Andrew White being on the floor, who gets fewer shots? It's going to have to come from somewhere. Does Shavon drop under double figure scoring? Who gets fewer shots? Petteway. I don't think he would have forced things. He wouldn't have had to. Imagine if Gallegos shot at the level White did? Think how much better that would have made the team? Having more high level players wouldn't have made the team worse. Remember, Pitchford was supposed to have been on that team, too. Had he been able to keep things together and improved on his sophomore season, that should have been a high powered team. How many shots each guy was gonna get really wouldn't have been a concern.

Tai Webster Named to New Zealand National Team Pool

I honestly don't know how Miles watches these games and doesn't implement a more wide open offensive strategy. He's always done better in that type of a system. I think a lot of our guys would do well with that kind of a move. -
Hmmm...not sure about that. Wasn't there a story about Petteway taking so many shots because he had to? Other than Shields, that was about NU's only option, at least consistently. NU doesn't/hasn't run a system that fits what Tai's skills are, so he wasn't gonna carry any of that. Pitchford was MIA. It was Petteway, Shields and hope someone had a hot hand. I think if AW3 had had a season with TP, he would have put up similar numbers to what he did last year AND opened things up more for Petteway. I think it would have benefited both to have had a year to play together. I think I reject the premise.

OK, AWIII is gone. Let's guess where he ends up.

I thought that was last year. -
Sounds like the news went over like a lead balloon in the locker room. I think this team will have a serious chip on their shoulder.
-
Seems like that would be a nice pull, but do we have anything that would connect us with him? All his offers were on the west coast except for one in Texas.
-
I still think Wingett is someone they should seriously consider. With the way they've been recruiting lately, they'll have the leeway for a development guy, which I think he would be.
-
Don't think it has to be a guard if he can come in and provide some long range scoring punch off the bench. His size is similar to AW3's. The only question becomes is if he's redundant with McVeigh, Jacobson, Horne and Roby already in the fold with seemingly similar skill sets. Not sure any of them can shoot it at 41% from 3, though.

Matthews committed to Gonzaga. I'd suggest moving on before you get your hopes up.

So, next year's starting lineup.

I'd imagine they texted him and he was just responding. -

I think that's 28 pounds since he showed up on campus, not since the end of last season, fwiw. -

Jacobson's put on some good weight, too. Not McVeigh, so much, though... -
Just took a gander at the remaining (known) grad transfer options. Not much out there. Probably got the roster we're gonna roll with. I'm ok with that.

And Watson retweeted this from some dude I've never heard of. I like it. -

I'd still like to see NU open it up more. That's where Tai has his success. I think it would compliment the games of Gill and Roby quite a bit, too. -
Someone stated in a different thread that if AW3 turned pro (at the time it was NBA or Nebraska for AW3) Tai would also be leaving (not sure if it's a transfer or overseas ball). The speculation is that he could get a pretty good contract in New Zealand or Australia if he wanted it. He won't be transferring, he hasn't graduated so he'd have to sit out a year and going down a level just wouldn't make a lick of sense.

There were a lot more a month ago ...yeah...
-
So...any shooters left on the SR transfer market?
-
You're probably gonna have to go the secondary market route. I'd imagine the player and coaches tickets are already spoken for.
-
No it's not. You can honor your past and acknowledge there have been great players that have come through here, which there have, while still striving to exceed what's been done. The two aren't mutually exclusive. You can do some sort of Ring (Hoop?) of Honor that recognizes the best players that have ever come through the program. It doesn't prevent you from still pushing the bar higher. I say, yes, we do want to honor those guys.

I keep trying to talk myself out of it ...
uneblinstu replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Of course they are. Not stating otherwise, but that's part of the adventure, right? Part of why we watch, to see who fills that void? Who steps up, who doesn't. Will Watson become the next Tyronn Lue? Will Jacobson become a hardnosed nightmare? Will the defense help make up the idfference? Will everyone get just a little bit better? Any and all of those are possible. That's part of the fun: finding out which one. And no one is diminishing the contributions Shavon made last season, seriously, nobody. At least not on this board. (and I haven't really seen it anywhere else either...)
