Analytical Breakdown of Random Coach vs. Tim Miles
uneblinstu replied to aphilso1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
NU's rates of transfer are comparable with the rest of NCAA rates. Transfers are part of the deal. -
Well...it'd be awkward, that's for sure.
-
That opens up some more intriguing matchups, though. Right now we'd almost certainly have been looking at a game with Wake or Clemson again. We still might, but if they reshuffle the deck, you could see Virginia Tech or NC State or something like that on the table.

Analytical Breakdown of Random Coach vs. Tim Miles

You always run that risk when you make a coaching change. Anecdotally, I don't think mass exoduses happen that often. I'm sure there will be some losses off the roster, but, as long as you don't protract a search, I don't think you'll see players abandoning ship. And Nana's signed a LOI. They might release him from it, but it's not a guarantee. There are a lot of things that *could* happen, including Miles returning. -
I'd really like to see that team take the court.
-
Except that St. Johns is in that tourney in Orlando. Butler would be fun, too. Or Georgetown or Providence.
-
Maybe, but we got paired with Nova in the first one. I'm not sure they pair comparable opponents. But I haven't looked that closely at match ups from past years.
-
So, for that Big East game, it won't be Creighton and probably not St. Johns or Villanova. I'll be curious to see who that ends up being.
-
I was tempted to make the trip up there for it. As a UNO alum, GO MAVS!
-
Yeah, probably. Especially if one was the worst home loss in school history. Heck, we had 5 straight close losses and people were ready to cut bait then.

Tai Second Team Media All-Big Ten
uneblinstu replied to AuroranHusker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
His numbers, other than perhaps 3pt shooting stack up. Amongst those four, he's 2nd in points per game, 2nd in rebounds, 2nd in assists, 3rd in FT's made, 1st in Steals. His 3pt and FT % he's last in the group. He stacks up. But his team finished 12th. So, that's probably the difference, but NU was 2-2 vs. that group. -

You could make a case vs. any of the guards. -

It's not that hard to argue. They all deserve it, sure, but Tai belongs in that group. -

I think that's where he ends up. -

It would be a real shame if Tai's left off the first team. -
It's possible. It's also possible they improve enough and the addition of incoming talent makes the difference and they get over the hump in those close games.
-
Not if they do it.

Nah, I think this year has more "What if's" to me. - What if AW3 comes back (and is all in)? - What if they beat Clemson? - What if Gill doesn't blow out his knee? - What if Tai doesn't go vegan? (I'm serious about this one.) - What if Ed doesn't miss half the conference season? - What if Glynn doesn't fall down vs. Ohio State or Tai gets the Rebound vs. Rutgers? One cascades into the next.

Oh, I'm sure. These guys don't live in a vacuum. I just think it was an accumulation of things that led to this precipitous decline we've seen the last couple of weeks, specifically. Then the argument could be made that Lee's article calling for Miles to keep his job was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. This season stands out among many as perhaps the biggest "What if" season in program history, or at least in the modern era (since the field expanded to 64 teams). Perhaps the 1996 campaign is right there with it.

Their game was really entertaining yesterday. Hope they keep it rolling tonight and get a shot at one of the South Dakota hosts!

I did.

In 2015, 629,983 people attended NU football games. In 2015-16, 610,071 attended D1 hoops games (NU, UNO, CU). CU had 19 home games, NU had 18. If NU had one more, that number would have been roughly 625,500. That's kinda stunning...

There was nothing that felt normal about this game. Even before it started, it felt strange. This was the valley to the peak that was No Sit Sunday. Like this day, NSS was unseasonably warm. Unlike today, it was also brilliantly bright. The sun was out, the party was on. Today was somber and dreary. The drum corp that played in front of PBA before the game started couldn't have been more out of place. In the building, there was a sense of dread, it was ominous. Miles and Eichorst shared a big hug right before the Senior Day celebration began. That seemed unwarranted given the atmosphere around the program the past couple of weeks. Once the game began, nothing was right. Nothing. The defense was as bad as I've ever seen it. This isn't the team I watched for the first 24 or so games of the season. For the first three quarters of the season, this team competed. They played good defense, they played semi competent offenseively, they played hard. They did none of those things today. I can't tell you why. Coach struggled with it in his post game. Did they wear down? Did everything since AW3 left catch up to them? Was everything we saw since November a mirage? Even the first time they played Michigan they were a much different team. The team we saw on the floor today had no direction. Today was just sad. Sad because we had to say goodbye to a great player today. The performance they put on the floor was such a disparate sendoff to everything Tai represented. NU will have a huge gap to fill next season. You hope that the trials this group went through this year will be a terrific education for what they'll face next year and beyond. I believe this group is very talented and will only become even more so when they add what they add next season. The way they finished this season sounds alarms, though. I don't know what happens next. I really don't. I still believe the future is very bright. The moment is pretty dim, though.
