  1. Fairleigh Dickinson Head Coach: Jack Castleberry (2nd year) Location: Teaneck, NJ Conference: Northeast Conference Nickname: Knights Last time out: Beat D-III Purchase College Shirt not to wear: Blue, chain mail Opening Line: Nebraska by 27 Nota bene: Fairleigh Dickinson is most known as the team that knocked off Zach Eddy and Purdue as the #16 seed in the 2023 NCAA tourney After winning vs Purdue during his one season at FDU, Tobin Anderson parlayed that success into the Iona job that had previously been held by Rick Pitino. Anderson's assistant Jack Castleberry was tabbed as the new head coach. FDU, the largest private university in New Jersey, has multiple campuses. As part of this feature, it's one of the few schools that fields a D-1 and D-III team. The Farleigh Dickinson University-Florham team's mascot is the Devils. Nebraska is 1-0 all time vs FDU, their first meeting being in 2003-04. Coincidentally, the only time before this season Nebraska played both FDU and Bethune Cookman was 2003-04. Player to watch: Terrance Brown The 6'3" sophomore guard has dominated the shot attempts for the Knights, almost exclusively inside the arc. Brown is a physical, annoying defender with some ball-hawking skills Player to watch: Dylan Jones The 6'5" Juco guard is the main source of 3pt offense for FDU and essentially all he does. Currently shooting 9-18 from deep, Jones will take and make highly contested shots from 3. Jones recently went 4-8 from deep against a Creighton team that is predicated on taking away the 3. Others to watch Bismark Nsiah - D-II transfer forward, 6'8" 220. FDU plays a lot of 5 out and Nsiah is able to pass and make 3s while playing as an undersized center Jo'el Emanuel - Another highly athletic glue guy type player who does most his damage inside the arc. Ahmed Barba-Bey - Last season was Nsiah's teammate at D-II Jefferson University. He's a PG splitting time with returner Brayden Reynolds. Barba-Bey has started the first three though Reynolds is arguably better. UNL Game Notes Roster/infirmary report 34 Center Braxton Meah 7-1 264 lbs Senior (Out) Possible starters for Nebraska 3 Guard Brice Williams 6-7 214 lbs Senior 4 Forward Juwan Gary 6-6 226 lbs Senior 24 Guard Rollie Worster 6-5 210 lbs Senior 0 Guard Connor Essegian 6-4 190 lbs Junior 9 Forward Berke Büyüktuncel 6-10 244 lbs Sophomore Bench 2 Guard Ahron Ulis 6-3 190 lbs Senior 5 Forward Braden Frager 6-7 220 lbs Freshman 8 Guard Jeffrey Grace III 6-3 200 lbs Junior 12 Guard Gavin Griffiths 6-7 193 lbs Sophomore 20 Forward Justin Bolis 6-8 225 lbs Sophomore 25 Guard Nick Janowski 6-4 208 lbs Freshman 31 Guard Cale Jacobsen 6-4 195 lbs Sophomore 1 Guard Sam Hoiberg 6-0 185 lbs Junior 23 Forward Andrew Morgan 6-10 242 lbs Senior 35 Forward Henry Burt 6-7 222 lbs Sophomore Out for year 51 Forward Rienk Mast 6-10 260 lbs Senior Hoiberg presser Much like us, Fred Hoiberg is trying to figure out if his team is going to figure it out or if he needs to do something different. The Skinny: Nebraska has played what some might consider a couple of clunkers to start the season where games against inferior opponents were not fully decided until late. The Huskers have been plagued by turnovers and poor 3pt shooting...all of which might be attributed to guy either not knowing or trusting where everyone else on the court. One of the attributes of a Fred Hoiberg team is that they share the ball. Thus far their assist number project more heroball than Hoiball. The defense has been sturdy though so between that and Nebraska's ability to get to the FT line, this team has been able to win despite not playing their best. Farleigh Dickenson will try to run Nebraska out of their own gym so we'll see who is able to play in control in what should be a high pace, high scoring game. When they do run offense, FDU is remarkably quick in rotation the ball around the perimeter so it's up to Nebraska to find and pop out on the one guy that can beat them from 3. The Knights will take many quick and tough shots...it's just a matter of realizing they all likely won't go in. If Nebraska can't make shots tonight the offensive boards are wide open against this undersized FDU squad. Any Nebraska post player that can grab a miss should be able to feast on taking out the trash. Does Nebraska make changes to their playing minutes? Scheme? Or do they just go back out and simply try and execute at a higher level? Prediction: Nebraska 87 - FDU 66
  2. “Quentin is a skilled guard who fits well in our system. He is a good shooter with length and athleticism on the wing and can play through contact. He also handled the ball with the Las Vegas Knicks AAU program and showed good court vision and a high basketball IQ. He reminds me of Brice Williams, as Quentin has a similar skillset and is someone who can develop in our system.” - Fred Hoiberg His father Wayne played for Portland St and Colorado - Colorado Springs as well as overseas.

  5. Notes from UNL Nebraska has now won 14 straight games at home dating back to last season Nebraska has now won 23 straight games when holding an opponent under 70 points, including 29-2 over the last two-plus seasons. The time Nebraska lost a game when holding an opponent under 70 points was against Purdue in 2022. Nebraska forced 22 turnovers, the most since forcing 22 turnovers at Michigan State on Feb. 6, 2021. It ties for the second-highest number of opponent turners in Fred Hoiberg’s five-plus seasons at Nebraska. Nebraska has forced 20+ turnovers in both games this season Nebraska finished with 11 steals, including a career-high five from Juwan Gary. Gary's previous high in steals was four at Kansas State last season. NU's 11 steals were its highest total since recording 15 against Indiana on Jan. 3, 2024. Gary also led NU with 11 points Brice Williams finished with 10 points, snapping a streak of four straight 20-point games dating back to last season.
  6. Hoiberg on the post game show "There is a lack of trust going on right now and we gotta figure it out. We're doing a lot of things in games right now that we aren't doing in practice" "We got a group of kids, I promise you that, and they're not doing anything with any kind of malicious intent and we gotta find a way and obviously get better offensive flow on the other end" To me the panic one might be feeling and the one that Hoiberg seems to be feeling is that he has a group of guys that might not meld together to their high potential. If you're concerned, you have a reason to be. On the flip side, this is game 2. We scheduled these kind of games specifically because putting this together very well might take time. If you're not concerned, you have a reason to be. College basketball, it's a beautiful game.
  7. Brice is the one guy on the team where can shoot whatever we wants and over the course of a season it's going to fall in about 40% from 3 and 50% from 2. In a lot of regards his production is remarkably consistent. I think the frustration boils down to him just going Toney McCray at moments and throwing the ball to the other team or some other random brain fart thing you don't want to see from the guy who is supposed to be your best player.
  8. Are you planning to attend the game at Maryland in January?
  9. Found an interview from last year. My next door neighbor is also from Maryland and his accent is identical to Steve's so now I know what a Maryland accent sounds like.
  10. Fill us in Steve, we'd love to hear from you. You were part of the smallest yet best defensive teams Nebraska has rolled out this century
  11. As one of the younger old heads, this is a real 'Cats in the Cradle' moment for me
  12. FDU plays fast in general
  13. If you're playing Meah you almost have to start him because you don't want him shooting FTs
  14. Did anyone catch the post game radio with Kent and Jake? Was odd but I wasn't sure I caught it all because of a bad signal
  15. Our NET ranking is meaningless if this game is an indication that we're simply not very good
  16. Nebraska Cornhuskers (1-0) vs Bethune Cookman Wildcats (0-1) Date: Saturday Nov 9, 2024 Time: 7:00 pm Arena: PBA Broadcast: BTN+ Bethune Cookman Head Coach: Reggie Theus (4th year) Location: Daytona Beach, Florida Conference: Southwestern Athletic Conference Nickname: Wildcats Last time out: Lost to Texas Tech Shirt not to wear: Maroon, Gold, Minnesota Gopher hat you found in your glove compartment Opening Line: Nebraska by 24.5 Nota bene: This is the 2nd time Nebraska will play Bethune Cookman in their history. Their first ever meeting was one for the record books as Nebraska smothered the Wildcats 70-26 on Dec 20, 2003. The 26 points was the least allowed by the Huskers since January 7, 1941 when Nebraska defeated Kansas St 33-22. Bethune Cookman actually led in the game 6-0. This will be a matchup of former NBA coaches and players as Reggie Theus played 14 years in the NBA and was the head coach of the Sacramento Kings for two seasons. Theus and Hoiberg worked together for the Timberwolves organization from 2009-10 when Theus was an assistant and Hoiberg was in the front office Reggie Theus has led an eventful life including playing a fictional high school basketball coach in late 90s Saturday morning TV show "Hang Time", playing for Jerry Tarkanian in the late 70s, and being the shooting guard the Bulls traded in 1984 that led to the Bulls selecting shooting guard Michael Jordan in the 1984 draft. B-C is Theus's third college stop as he coached Cal St Northridge from 2013-18 and New Mexico St from 2005-07. Bethune-Cookman was a longtime member of the Mid-East Athletic Conference. They switched to the SWAC at the start of the 2021-22 season. Player to watch: Brayon Freeman This is the 4th stop for Freeman who previously played at Coastal Carolina, Rhode Island, and George Washington. The 6'2" CG is the most likely player to take a 3 for a team that typically doesn't take a ton Player to watch: Reggie Ward One of two returning players, Ward is an undersized F/C clocking in at 6'6", 230#. He's a highly efficient finisher at the rim and will occasionally pop a 3 if left wide open. Others to watch Antwann Jones - This might be a familiar name to some as Jones played for Creighton during the 2020-21 season after coming from Memphis. Since then he's played at Louisiana and UCF. When healthy, the oft-injured Jones is a serviceable glue guy. It's unknown whether or not he'll play tonight after leaving the Wildcat's opener at Texas Tech with non-contact right foot/ankle injury 6 minutes into the game. (After watching back the injury and Jones putting zero weight on the foot afterwards I'd be surprised if he played) Gianni Hunt - 6th year PG who spent his first 3 years at Oregon St followed by stops and Sacramento St and Cal St. Northridge. Serviceable 3pt shooter but otherwise not much of a scorer and can be turnover prone. Everyone Else - WIth the exception of returner Seneca Willoughby, most everyone else on the team is a collection of guys that have multiple stops at the D-1 level. UNL Game Notes Roster/infirmary report Possible starters for Nebraska 3 Guard Brice Williams 6-7 214 lbs Senior 4 Forward Juwan Gary 6-6 226 lbs Senior 24 Guard Rollie Worster 6-5 210 lbs Senior 9 Forward Berke Büyüktuncel 6-10 244 lbs Sophomore 34 Center Braxton Meah 7-1 264 lbs Senior Bench 2 Guard Ahron Ulis 6-3 190 lbs Senior 5 Forward Braden Frager 6-7 220 lbs Freshman 8 Guard Jeffrey Grace III 6-3 200 lbs Junior 0 Guard Connor Essegian 6-4 190 lbs Junior 12 Guard Gavin Griffiths 6-7 193 lbs Sophomore 20 Forward Justin Bolis 6-8 225 lbs Sophomore 25 Guard Nick Janowski 6-4 208 lbs Freshman 31 Guard Cale Jacobsen 6-4 195 lbs Sophomore 1 Guard Sam Hoiberg 6-0 185 lbs Junior 23 Forward Andrew Morgan 6-10 242 lbs Senior 35 Forward Henry Burt 6-7 222 lbs Sophomore Out for year 51 Forward Rienk Mast 6-10 260 lbs Senior Hoiberg presser/ Andrew Morgan The Skinny: Bethune Cookman is going to give Nebraska a very different look than UTRVG. Instead of a team out there hunting threes, what you should see tonight is a deep team looking to run and steal their way to a victory. The Wildcats will attempt to live in transition or else hero ball their way through this game at the PBA. This is a type of team Nebraska is set up to beat with their base defense. Speaking of base defense, at this point it feels like Nebraska's length not only allows for closeouts in their scramble 3 defense but also has a chance to be the Hoiberg's best team in terms of defensive rebounding and generating turnovers. We'll need to see how it looks vs better teams but the pieces are there. Tonight the Wildcats will take and make plenty of tough shots when forced to run offense. As long as the Huskers clean up on the boards they'll be fine. I don't know that Nebraska will plan to pound the ball inside every game but I expect them to keep at it during this one. Nebraska has two more games to figure out their rotations but their best lineups are likely to involve Brice Williams, Rollie Worster, and whoever else might have it that night. Andrew Morgan ended up playing 20 minutes last game despite being out of shape after recovering from his concussion. I wouldn't expect Nebraska to put away the Wildcats early as Bethune Cookman slugged it out with Texas Tech until the Red Raiders put on a 27-4 run towards the end of the first half and into the second. At some point B-C will stop making shots and can Nebraska put them away? If they put away the Wildcats, can they keep them there? Prediction: Nebraska 90 - Bethune Cookman 65 View full article

  18. I'd put most of the opponents in Hawaii in the Q2-Q3 zone. Murray St projects as a bad 3pt shooting team so the chance of them getting the upset are lesser IMO. In theory one of these games might be in the same quad as playing someone like USC or Minnesota at home. I think if we end up playing Hawaii then it's considered a road game.
  19. Reggie Theus was an assistant for the Timberwolves when Fred was in the front office. He was also the basketball coach on Saturday morning teen show Hang Time in the late 90s.
  20. 6'10" Blake Daberkow is playing for Idaho St after two years of juco. He was a teammate of Sam's at Pius X in Lincoln. Happen to see him when catching the end of the Idaho St - USC game that the Bengals almost pulled out. Probably doesn't project as a power 5 guy but maybe someone to monitor because of his height, ability to shoot 3s, and potential desire to play for his home town college.
  21. Hoiberg on with Strickland
