Mack/Burke BOTH suspended indefintietly
Fullbacksympathy replied to Handy Johnson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Our best ball handler on the roster right now might be Cross, which is insane. I’d start him at the 4 or 5 and let him bring up the ball to initiate the offense. -
I think Thor is a pretty cerebral kid who comes from a family that values education. I highly doubt he leaves without a degree.
-
Unless there is some god awful thing Cam did, a fender bender and being late to some team functions isn't enough for me not to want him here next year. There is absolutely no risk with having him return to a roster full of talent and a 6'8" PG who would be more than happy to run the show. I haven't seen any wavering whatsoever with Fred and his team rules. If he decides Cam's behavior is too egregious to be corrected, I trust him, but from the outside looking in, I just see a rascal that needs to get his act together, not some criminal or deviant. He's not the first goofball to attend college.

2020 PG Grad transfer Kobe Webster - Signed

Amazing fix. -
Correct. The only one I think might prove me wrong is Walker because I haven’t see him play, but I think Mayen is going to be a really nice player for us and Banton could be extremely special if he can guard the 4 and stay on the court with Cam. Mayen is a good rebounder at 6’9”, can shoot 3s, and is 80% at the line. I’m sick and tired of seeing front court offensive liabilities in this program.

Cam - Burke Thor - King Allen - Stevenson Banton - Cross Mayen - Yvan Run like all hell.

2020 G Transfer - Kobe King - Signed

King has an excellent ability to finish at the rim and score in isolation. He's a different cat because he's a guard with a post game. Fred will have fun with him. It'll be a lot of beef at the 2-3 between him and Teddy. I also think he'll return to being a serviceable three point shooter under Fred's tutelage. As for the logjam, I would say it's best we get used to them under the Hoiberg staff. They are going to try and update roster talent every single year whether they have "room" or not. I promise. -
Wisc. transfer Kobe King is 'N'

Fantastic pickup. Kid is a brick wall at the 2 and extremely versatile on both ends. Really pumped about this get. -
Shit you’re right. Thor over Green at the 3. Green and Burke help at the 1-2.
-
Can’t see Cross transferring. I think he’ll split time with Mayen at the 4 and might even start. Mack Banton - Burke Allen - Green Mayen - Cross Stevenson - Walker/Yvan That’s my guess. I think Stevenson will start at the 5 because he’s too good to leave on the bench and will create havoc in transition. He’s a serviceable 3pt shooter too. If Mack has an open lane and good finishers he will murder next season. With Mayen and Stevenson at the 4-5, our perimeter defense should be incredible as we can switch on everything and close out quickly.

I’d love to have this kid. He’s an ox of a 2 guard. -
Tonight was a good example of what happens when Jervay and Cam have off shooting nights and use their God given athleticism to fill up the rest of the stat sheet and make plays elsewhere. Great effort from those two. Glad to see Cheatham show up. Our system almost beat them tonight. We were outmatched at literally every position.
-
Not sure. He's likely older than Yvan and better than Walker.

He's a junior though right? Grad transfer? -
Both Charlie and Arop are D1 athletes, and both were offered D1 scholarships out of high school. Charlie has been a good player for us as a true freshman. If what he brought was the same thing brought by, say, scholarship player Samari Curtis, I'm sure everyone would be very excited about his future. I think he'll be a defensive specialist and deadly three point shooter by his junior year. His athleticism on defense shocked me, quite frankly. Arop is raw, but remember he is a freak athlete with an outside stroke. Fred tends to know what to do with those.
-
I hope we keep Cam next season. I’d say playing the minutes he has on this team has earned him some respect regardless of perceived character. He’s been a warrior for us this season. He deserves to be surrounded with legitimate talent next year if he chooses to return.

OT: Most overrated/underrated coaches..

Barnes seems like a decent pick, although he did some pretty cool stuff with his press back in the day. I have no idea who you are talking abo in the second paragraph. -
OT: Most overrated/underrated coaches..
Fullbacksympathy replied to Fullbacksympathy's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I agree that system was very innovative (though not always effective in a tournament setting), although I’ve only ever seen Dean get credit for originally implementing it as head coach, but your first two points—the wins and national titles—are honestly not that impressive to me given where he has coached and the talent he wasted at KU for decades. As far as coaches with notoriety, I don’t think Roy is anywhere near Jay Wright, who is, in my opinion, head and shoulders above any other coach in college basketball at the moment. -
My most overrated has always been Roy Williams. I can't stand the guy. I'm watching UNC this year, who still has decent talent--though less than recent years--and his coaching is atrocious. They are 10-12 with only 3 conference wins. I just can't help but remember all those KU teams with championship talent that fizzled out in the tourney under his system. Fred would have Roy's current roster dancing. I don't think it takes a coaching miracle to put 3-4 future NBA players in the final four. He rode Dean Smith's coattails to can't-miss jobs. My most underrated would be Mick Cronin. I love his style, the types of players he recruits, and what he built at Cincy. I think he'll get things rolling at UCLA. Any others?
