Might be the best thing for everyone involved. We all should take a nice, long break from it.

I was truly on the fence about Miles at the end of the year but here's how I framed it in my mind. (Unfortunately, it is the same way I framed keeping Pelini for a year too long and while that doesn't really help my argument, in the interest of full disclosure...) When Miles was hired, he had no experience recruiting or coaching at this level. Consequently, he and the staff he put together were unprepared to identify and recruit the talent needed to compete. Like it or not, the first couple of years were "on the job training". Nebraska's administration made the decision to hire him and had to know on some level this would be the case. Catching lightning in a bottle in year 2 changed the perception of the experience gap that remained with Miles and his staff. However, it would appear over the past couple of years, he has adjusted, hired different staff and refined his approach to identifying and recruiting talent. Is he all the way there at this point? Not likely, but it would be hard to argue that Miles hasn't been improving in these areas over time. In a crude way, it is a philosophy of investment and successful investing comes with a long-term mindset. NU made the initial investment, the early years were lost due to "training" and now it appears the recruiting component is improving. While we may not have expected the "lost years" early on (although we should have), the long-term investment thesis remains intact.

For those who love chaos...

Not sure I would hold my breath - everything I've heard is pointing him toward JUCO. Likely Northeast up in Norfolk.

Not going to rant about this because it was almost expected, but dammit, I hate that a talented kid from an area nearby that we should be recruiting heavily wants to leave after 1 year. Not a good look, short or long-term, in my opinion.

uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: Vol 9, Ed 30 - vs. Michigan

I could not agree with this more - I will go to my grave believing that had Gdowski been given the same starts, he would go down as a top 3 quarterback in the history of the program. -
uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: Vol 9, Ed 30 - vs. Michigan

Just my opinion on the Steve Taylor thing - memory serves that if you go back and watch games of him at QB, he loved to keep the ball himself on options. To the point where my friends and I would refer to him as Steve "Hogball" Taylor. (Yes, it was hogball instead of ball hog - inside joke). Anyway, I remember him as a pretty selfish player and he should keep his thoughts to himself, like he did with the football way too often. The streak was nice and represented a good season, but means absolutely nothing in the big picture. -
I'm not in that camp and I'll never root against Nebraska - wish it didn't have to come to this. I like Tim and wanted him to succeed, but the way the season has completely come apart, it seems inevitable that his time has run out.

That was fun.

We have one sitting on the bench...who's actually proven he can do it. -

If he's healthy, it is really hard to understand why Horne isn't playing. I mean, it's great that Jack has finally found his touch, but wasn't there a correlation between Horne getting more minutes and Nebraska actually winning games earlier in the year? -

Given the evidence thus far this season, I can see why they would have that opinion. But, I agree with you - we played well, but I consider it playing up to our capability. Having a stretch of 4+ scoreless minutes at the end of the 1st half and giving up a 20-4 run doesn't sound like "standing on our heads" to me. I think the tone was set in the 1st 15 minutes of the 1st half. Not sure I've seen a team play any harder. -

Incredible game - so thankful that the staff went with the young guys, took the reins off and let them play. If this is the formula going forward (and it should be), it will be a roller-coaster but the ups will definitely outweigh the downs. Great game Huskers - let's make it 2 in a row! -
My brother and I went to the last game Nebraska played there as a member of the Big 12. Loved it (and if I recall, NU gave them a good game into the 2nd half) - I'm a sucker for the history and it oozes from the place. I've also been to Assembly Hall - a blizzard kept the crowd down but we were able to move down to about 8 rows behind Bobby Knight & Indiana's bench. It was a fantastic experience and the seats feel like they look straight down on the court from above. I can't imagine how intimidating that place could be when it's full.

I think the question of Miles' future is valid, and I really like him as a person. However, as each year goes by, the luster of new facilities fades and whatever advantage that may have given NU starts to fade as well. It's fair to question that if he hasn't been able to get it done consistently when things were new and shiny, how does it happen now? I have always believed that defense wins - I'm not so sure that applies to college basketball anymore. As much as I hate to admit it, I think McDermott (and those like him) have it right for today's player. Recruit scorers and you can teach them adequate defense. I know if I were a potential recruit, it would be a more attractive system than the current philosophy of defense first. I'm not saying Miles won't get it done and I'm certainly hopeful that he does - but it has reached a point where the question is a reasonable one.

Might have been intended as a joke, Tim & Tubby may be friends...it doesn't really matter. There was no need for the tweet and nothing good would result (especially since Tubby may not even be on Twitter and he wasn't tagged in the post). My patience is wearing a bit thin with our HC at this point. There are many more pressing issues to be concerning yourself with than posting about other coaching moves.

Nebraska will not pursue further postseason play

I also believe this is the right decision. Time for a break, do some thorough evaluation and get to work in the off-season to improve. -
I'm not sure that I learned anything other than the freshmen could be pretty solid by the time they are juniors & seniors. That requires patience and as we head into year 5, it is wearing a bit thin. I have always thought coaching was primarily about putting your kids in the best position to succeed. As the year progressed, we basically saw a version of the dribble-drive motion offense - but unless you have at least 2 high-quality shooters on the floor, it just doesn't work. (See: Northwestern). Are there other options? I don't know. Defensively, we really struggle when we have to help in the post - this has been consistent all year and yet, we continued to try to force it. Are there other options? I don't know. And that is the real problem - there shouldn't be that many "I don't knows" through 4 years. I have been a staunch supporter and believer in Miles since his arrival. I really like him and want him to be the guy to get this done. But I find myself questioning it at this point.

Have the freshman hit the wall.....???

The way this team has played the past few games, it seems everyone except Shields hit the wall. -

uneblinstu's post game chatter vol 8, no 29: The Shining
demone replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Frustrated by this season and not seeing enough "impact" improvement as the season has progressed. In fact, in some cases, I think I can safely say there has been some regression. I hate talking about "next year" but that is where we are, once again. 7 assists? What happened to the team early in the year that was moving, sharing the basketball and knocking down open looks? This team hasn't shot particularly well in the past few games and I believe it starts with too much standing & too much dribbling. We are 1-4 in the last 5 games and the most assists in a game we've had in that stretch is 12. (Purdue had 22 last night!). Defensively, we simply can't or won't make life difficult on 3 pt shooters. I realize we are undersized and that is a contributing factor when having to double the post and then recover on the shooters. But...the effort to recover is a requirement for this team to be successful. It has not been there. Thank you to both Shavon and Benny for giving this program 4 years of your life. Kudos also to the fans - pretty impressive that over 15,000 showed up to congratulate the seniors and cheer on a sub-.500 team. Next year...ah next year... -
uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: Vol 8, Issue 22 - @ Purdue
demone replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I read some of the Spartans' internet commentary right after we beat them. All the talk was about how they needed to recruit guys that were quicker and can stretch the floor, since our small/athletic lineup ran circles around their tall/bruising lineup. I thought that was a misplaced comment on their part, just like I find your comment misplaced. Any time you have such a clash of styles, the losing side's fans seem to want to emulate the other team. I said nothing about "emulating the other team" - I really like our roster and would prefer a quicker pace overall. But you have to be able to provide a better challenge to an inside presence. -

I thought the effort was good throughout the game. We can find things here & there that we could have done better, but this loss is squarely on the coaches. This team gave their all today but the coaches' inability to find someone to provide not only size, but strength, is why we got beat. A common theme, I know, but I actually felt bad for the team today - they did all they could do but asking them to hold up against that size/strength is borderline unfair. -
Very interesting question - I really like Morrow and it's a close one, but I think I have to go with McVeigh. More potential for some inside game with physical development, more potential from outside and more potential as a ball-handler.
