  1. This team sucks like nearly every NU team has sucked. Maybe next year they will finish higher than the bottom fifth of the league. One can dream....
  2. Groundhog's day. Looks like last place in the league might be a reasonable guess. Good grief this is tiring. Perhaps there is hope we can finish outside the cellar when/if the two big guys return.
  3. He seems to be a perfect Hoiberg player. Imagine if he lands Dick, Yalden and Traudt to compliment McGowans (Bryce) and Breidenbach. Will be interesting to see who he brings in play point guard, such that it is in his system.
  4. Mitch, I agree with you. I vent merely to release the poison that has accumulated over the last 55 years (more for our long-suffering seniors). I don't agree, however that Sallis, or anyone else for that matter cannot be a "one-and-done" at NU. If they are great, the NBA will find them. There are several who have left college after one year who attended schools other than UK, Duke, N.C., U.C.L.A. and KU. At some future date Hoiberg will land a one-and-done, likely. I'm not sure Sallis is that caliber but we shall see. He will either sign w/ Carolina or UK.
  5. Let's hope the next time a dangerous comet hits earth it levels the NCAA headquarters.
  6. Just want to add that Stevenson is key. I liked him as much as any on the squad in years and stand by that position. His minutes will only increase as the season wears on.
  7. I sure hope the staff can land Yalden. He plays the game the correct way.
  8. Just for the record: every man-jack listed above who left, or spurned NU can pound sand. Hunter Sallis is at the top of the list. Nice to see Texas Tech parted ways w/ the lanky forward we wasted our time with....
  9. I think the staff should really increase Stevenson's role/minutes. He should take all of Ouedraogo's minutes, posthaste. He will be starting soon.
  10. I certainly hope his minutes are completely taken by Andre and Walker. If not....
  11. I am sick and f*****g tired of s****y players like Ouedraogo taking minutes. Why does this continually happen? Hoiberg is brilliant yet he recruits and plays a man who is clearly, profoundly unskilled. Footwork, hands and awareness are non-existent. If he continues to see minutes NU will finish last again- as predicted by the coaches and media. If Hoiberg needs an eligible, unskilled brute all he has to do is ask one of the tall, slow big guys on the other inept team (see Memorial Stadium) to fill in like last year. I am sure Austin Allen couldn't be any worse than Ouedraogo, for example.
  12. A couple of observations: Stevenson should be playing more minutes. Weeks ago I thought he should be a starter. Also, Yvan has no place in the Big Ten- football perhaps, but not here, especially when Hoiberg favors skill. Good grief.... I think the temp. loss of Andre and Walker is significant. Perhaps they will be decent when the two big men return. Naturally, Nebraska had to absorb some annual bad news sent by the Basketball Archons to make the season less promising. (Perhaps a pre-season exorcism of the arena might help?) It's tragi-comic how NU starts every season with hope only to be cut down within hours of the first game, and no, it doesn't mean they might not escape the conference cellar (as predicted). They might, but as long as Yvan is a starter we cannot be taken seriously in a league this brutal. Keep in mind, Nevada was picked sixth in the Mountain West! Not an auspicious start, yet again....
  13. I would like to see Stevenson grab a starting spot. I think sometime this season he will be starting.
  14. It seems Arop's surgery will likely result in his not returning to the team. I'm guessing, naturally but w/ McGowens signing putting the squad one player over the scholarship limit it seems obvious this will happen. I am curious what other knowledgeable fans think the next player(s) Hoiberg will target? I think Traudt is important to make an hard run at, but if he chooses Duke or some power, who do they target, and more importantly who do they have a fair chance at landing? At the top of my wish list is Gus Yalden, who might be a transcendent player, and I hope they land a great h.s. point guard. Is there any chance Hoiberg/Abdelmassih could land five-star Dior Johnson who we had offered early, and who recently de-committed from Syracuse. Do we dare hope for him? Anyway, I know many of us long-suffering feel a giant step has been undertaken today.
  15. I will believe it when I see it. Too many near misses that would have completely changed things for the better lo, these last 120 years.... Recall just a few weeks back when PG Whitt and PF Sanogo were "locks" to sign. We got nothing but sandpaper in the KY Jelly.
  16. I will believe it if/when it happens. We've been left wanting more than I care to recall. Though I think Hoiberg is great and would be a fantastic coach for any blue-chip player, he is fighting an atrocious history he is trying to reverse. If any team with a brother likely starting and a friend (Wood) on the roster it would be Nebraska who would come up short- so like kldm64, I will wait and see. That said, I do think Hoiberg's incredible record placing players in the NBA should alleviate any worries McGowens (and any future five-star players) might have. Come with a teachable attitude and a handsome career awaits, as well as secular sainthood in this starved state full of great fans.
  17. Since we are speculating on the starters and the significant minutes players might get I want to ask the open-ended question: why does Arop occupy a scholarship? Does anyone think if someone like C. Whitt has said yes to NU that Arop would have been asked to give up his scholarship? I could be wrong but it seems odd that in the hyper-competitive domain of recruiting we can afford to tie up a scholarship with a player who won't likely contribute. (Please tell me if I am wrong but I haven't heard anything from anyone of note on this board who is optimistic about Arop being a contributor going forward).
  18. I submit my starting five: Banton McGowens Allen Stevenson Mayen I think the surprise of the roster will be the effectiveness of Stevenson. Now let's hope McGowen's plays well and little brother wants to join him.
  19. Agree with Colhusker. The Hoiberg admin. seems to be commensurate with the historical performance from NU. It is beginning to seem insurmountable. So many (myself included) thought the combination of Hoiberg and Abdelmassih would reverse the hopelessness of the previous century-plus. Even "insiders" thought we would land Sanogo and Whitt. The initial buzz from the hiring of Hoiberg is now rapidly diminishing. Last year's historically bad team now gives way to this team which is pre-season last-place by the sports writers. There are very few impact players considering NU in this recruiting cycle (unless I am missing something), and we just whiffed on the highest ranked player in the state's history (Sallis, who many thought Miles would land)! They shit the bed with Hepburn, Murrell and Williams (though the case w/ Williams may have extenuating factors). My guess is Traudt and Breidenbach will choose a good school to play for and the futility will persist. This doesn't mean I don't love Hoiberg and staff but I don't have any reason to think the pundits will be wrong this year either. What kind of recruits will NU be attracting after another laughable season? Perhaps Covid and the impending ecological catastrophe we are seeing will scuttle the season and we won't have to endure any further humiliations. And before anyone lashes out without considering my position, tell me where there might be reason for optimism- and I don't think because ISU was pretty good in his second season is a reason. Are there reasonable reasons to hold out any optimism? Happy Autumn!
  20. For sure. Like all the greatest players he makes the game look simple. No wasted movement, no over-exertion. Things that cannot be taught. He has the type of game we saw with one of the greatest, Kevin McHale.
  21. Really glad to see Coach with such foresight. I hope he lands him early because he will be a top ten recruit by his SR. year. Staggering potential.
  22. For the record, Ansalem can also pound sand. He and Sanogo.
