uneblinstu's postgame chatter : vol 17; ed 22-Oregon
thrasher31 replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Dalano I don't think I've seen at a Nebraska game since he left Nebraska. Was a bit shocked by that -
At minimum I think they need to be at 9-11 by the time the big ten tourney comes around, and I think that'll put them on the right side of being in. That means 6-4 over the last 10 games. Have 5 home games and 5 away games. With the exception of Michigan, which I think is a winnable game, Nebraska should be favored at least slightly in every home game. Find at least 1 away win, if not 2 to give yourself breathing room. Last night was a step in the right direction for that. Keep it going

Illinois (14-6) vs. Nebraska (12-8) Game Thread

This is actually something I was going to mention. I wasn't at USC, but Rutgers I was at and crowd energy wasn't there from what I saw. If you're at the game tonight, please give the guys energy. Let's get back to making the Vault a place big ten teams hate coming to. -

That's not a high bar to clear though tbf lol. But yeah they push and try to get 3s up. Which makes sense based on roster build and kasparas being a wizard. -

Him and Boswell are coughing out up just over 3 times a game in conference play, which puts them top 10 in conference in turnovers, and team wise they're in the upper half of the conference in conference play. With Tom ivisic out more than likely too with mono, morez Johnson as a freshman, is a guy you can force to be a decision maker out of the post. -

This, and they're a turnover prone team. This needs to be a game where Gary or Brice feast. Ben Humrichous is about as bad a defender on the wing as they'll see. If Boswell and Tre White check them out the gate, then that'll be a Berke game. There's definitely a massive pressure point to attack for Illinois when we're on offense, and we just have to be smart with passing lanes, because kasparas WILL turn it over. Just a matter of how much -
Let’s put something to rest right now
thrasher31 replied to Faux Mike Peltz's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
We have 3 single possession losses, all of which we had a shot against, and the 5 point loss to USC (shout-out Frost era). I'm not going to say "oh we're so close" because that's just bad juju and I might see Scotts shadow somewhere. In all 4 of those losses we had major breakdowns in different areas, most of which being defense, and it was still as close as it was. Basketball isn't going anywhere lol and people are just being emotional at this moment, and rightfully so. I went to every Bryce mcgowens game and I think the only game I left early was the Michigan clobbering. -

Nothing. Just nothing. Illinois is at least turnover prone and isn't great shooting, but they have final 4 ceiling, so they will run us more than likely. Did find out interesting we essentially cut the rotation to 7 with ulis in clean up. Have not liked meah this year, so I am fine with his benching. If the season continues how it is, id bump Gavin up just so see if you can get something out of him to close the season. -
This is what it ended up being, with Connor off for Berke. We'll see who they go to close the game though.
-
36%ish in conference play though, and that's after a few games stretch where he was hot. He got a few to go down vs Purdue late in the game which helped him of late. Before that and including that game he was shooting sub 30% in conference play, granted over a 5 game stretch. That's what matters more. And I'm not saying don't play him. I just don't think you start him if they want defense out of the gate. And they won't run a zone. I don't think I've seen a zone once this year. It just won't happen.

thrasher31 replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Yeah I can see that argument. Other side of the coin is they needed a 4/5 body type, and Saint isn't that. He'd be in the same spot as Gary basically, and I don't like that. -
I'm not with starting Connor yet honestly. He's found his shot of late thankfully, but if we're looking for defense, he's a guy who teams will hunt and target relentlessly. He's not strong, doesn't have a good wingspan, and isn't the team defender keisei or CJ were. He's gotten pinned down low on mismatches a few times already. I'm fine starting Sam I guess, but he's more an energy guy than a full time starter imo. Id keep rollie in with Sam personally. If Gavin can provide ANYTHING, he's an immediate move into rotation guy. Guys just have to play better at this point. Brice needs to be more efficient from 3, as does Gary. Berke is shooting well in conference play so far, but he's the only guy above 40% from 3 in conference play. Next closest is Connor at 36% (Sam is at 60%, but on very low volume).

Yeah tonje was a complete wild card, so I get not recruiting him. He was injured and pretty bad at Mizzou, and committed to NM, but then ended up at Wisconsin out of the blue when they got desperate after their Exodus. Saint I think we should've looked at a bit harder though. Can't explain that one. -

I got nothing. Mentally, the guys are lost right now. Some good individual performances, but not good enough and they're not playing connected. It's dangerzone now rest of the season. We'll see how the rest of the year goes. -
USC (11-7) vs. Nebraska (12-6) Game Thread
thrasher31 replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Cohen is pretty soft, and plays like he's 6'5, and honestly has been their worst player in big ten play. Only getting 10 mpg on b10 play and scored 10 points and grabbed 10 boards across 7 games so far. I can see the argument and don't disagree, but I don't think meah starting is set in stone. Just my opinion. Now, other train of Logic that I wouldn't disagree with would be playing meah vs Cohen early and letting Berke work on offense against whoever they have playing the 5 off the bench, which looks to be agee, and that should be a mismatch. -
USC (11-7) vs. Nebraska (12-6) Game Thread

I think it could be meah hitting the bench for Berke at the 5, and those two trade off during the game at the 5. Luckily for us, USC is not a physically imposing team in the middle, so this is a game Morgan could afford to miss. If the rumors about ahron starting are true, it could be him getting inserted for one of the bigs. Him and rollie seemed to play very well off of each other vs Maryland, despite never playing together in any lineups -
Going back to HS, looks like we did offer in his sophomore going into junior year, but it may be an armon gates or Matty A offer. Relationship is probably there a little bit at least. Interesting to see how we pursue him, of we do at all. At minimum a flier on a wing with how many open scholarships we have https://x.com/LouryDavius/status/1404845937692975115?t=4OSQLaLi_4JBeRJDRiykxg&s=19

Fred has said before he cares more about who's finishing games vs who's starting. I need Connor to up the efficiency from 3 in conference play. Him, Brice and Gary honestly. They're all 35% and below with Connor and Brice at 34 and 33%. If Connor doesn't improve his efficiency from 3, teams tend to target him on defense and get him pinned under the basket more often than not.

We actually rose a spot in NET. So as good a paper loss as we could get. Went from 50 to 49

It started at the UCLA game, but teams are starting to load up heavy on him. He'll still find a way to get his, but the gameplan seems to keep it tough on him and force someone else to shoot more, preferably Gary. Id like to see Berke split some looks with him, but he's still getting comfortable offensively. -

Me too honestly. Just something I'm monitoring, because if there's a clunky party to the starting lineup, it's him for sure. -

He didn't at all. They rotated Berke and Morgan at the 5. If he's completely out of the rotation, which I don't think he is all the way, I wonder if Gavin gets a shot. But it was a message sending benching for meah for sure. We'll see what Wednesday brings -

Rutgers (9-8) vs. Nebraska (12-4) Game Thread
thrasher31 replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Rutgers has looked a bit better of late, but they're not that good. Bailey and Harper can go, but the rest of the team offers nothing. Also you can force Bailey to shoot them out of the game with contested mid ranges.
