He's been too passive for my liking also. He's trying to balance helping run the offense with creating himself, so I kinda get it? And finding his spots. But I would like to see more offensive aggression from him overall.

They've had a VERY tumultuous start to the season. No one besides Hollman (9-20) or Walker (11-34) can shoot it seems. As a team they're shooting 27% from deep, which is a massive drop from their 39% from 3 last year. Didn't think losing Hauser would cause that big of a drop, but notable nonetheless. That baseline post double may work this game since they can't shoot, but need to take care of business today

Very level headed and I agree honestly. All 3 coming up are winnable in my eyes, and they should go at minimum 2-1 imo. These should be a better sign of the team as you said. We probably won't see a team that shoots as good as creighton on the schedule and only team that's as good as them is Purdue. Very hard for me to read into anything yet

Nebraska (7-1) vs. Minnesota (5-3) Game Thread
thrasher31 replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Minnesota from what I've seen is a bit better than last year's corpse of a team, but I don't think they're that good still. Hawkins, Mitchell and Christie are all good new guards for them. I LOVE Payne, even going back to last year. Great litmus test for the guys though. Garcia is an all big ten caliber guy that beat up on Walker a bit when we played em last year. Should be a win going away, but last year took a pair of tip dunks by Gary to win. Hard to win on the road in the big ten, but this should be one we can take. -

Yeah no good came out of today. Competed for about a half, then the 3 point discrepancy started catching up. Two great chances the next few games. Minnesota is better than last year, but still not good. MSU is struggling though and this is a great time to get them. -

It did not feel like 23 at all, and then I look up and he has 23. Did not feel like a typical keisei explosion -

I HATED the game flow to start that game. Obviously something clicked in the second half though, so I'm thankful. That's a good team they just played though. 3 guards that can get their own shot whenever, even if I thought Grant was exaggerating contact as bad as I've seen at this level. -that stretch from allick in the second half was massive. He won't always score a ton, but he picked his spots perfectly and knocked down a timely 3. Was great at being a connecting passer too. -l could talk about Lawrence for a while. I'm super impressed with him so far, and last night was massive too. Wished he tried to go get his own shot sometimes, but he's doing an outstanding job pushing the ball in semi transition or on inbounds. Gets the offense set in a hurry and seems to have great command. No turnovers last night with their high pressure defense is also outstanding. -Keisei pushed it a bit trying to match Grant bucket for bucket, and got pulled to end the first half. Message was received though and I felt he didn't do that in the second half. -did not love the boards last night. Got beat to their spot on the glass far too often. -gary does not look like the same player we saw last year. The arc he added on him jumper is obviously helping, but he's using his improved jumper to attack on closeouts. Still an outstanding defender and can crash the glass great. I like allick starting, but Gary closes halves/games with one big. Take care of CFSU on Sunday and then we're onto the school an hour away. I think we matchup well, but mast will need to hit his 3s in order for it to work. -

I think the lack of room protection is the biggest factor for running this style like you said. There's holes to any defense no matter what you run, but you make the defense work for the personnel you have. I don't love the double baseline, but if they are sound in rotations and don't jump on ball fakes (I've seen quite a few of those over the first two games), it could work.

Nebraska postgame chatter: vol 16; ed 2 - Florida A & M

Wasn't pretty on offense for most of the night, but they still win by 20+. Good game to go back and watch tape on -brice and Lawrence are trying to find their niche right now offensively. Balancing being aggressive while making the right play on passes. Lawrence in particular has struggled quite a bit. -more turnovers than assists is bad, no matter the opponent. Lots of balls went sailing out of bounds. That might mean guys don't have the chemistry with each other yet? Lawrence and boogie have to take better care of the rock though. -i said it Monday and I'll say it again. I love allick and mast as a front court pairing. Both can play together and can play alone with a wing at the 4. Gary coming back will be interesting, because I don't know if he fills in for allick or if he comes off the bench. Good problem to have imo -offense is still missing the most important piece to the puzzle in keisei, so I'm interested in how the offense looks with him. I have to think it alleviates pressure from Brice and Lawrence. -rice scored quite a bit and I can see the microwave ability he has. Also had some bad defensive rotations and drove into a crowd a few times. Talent is there clearly though, but he'll need to hone it in at times First real test is next Saturday vs Oregon State. Get through the next two games in convincing fashion and get to that one -
Great point. Growing an inch or two would be a pretty big development.

Really like this class so far. If they find a way to land Boyed, I will like the class even more. That's before accounting for transfers in also. Janowski can just score. Developing some PG skills will be on the to do list when getting here, but he can flat out score. Frager is obviously very athletic, but he's pretty built also. I can see him bouncing to the 4 in some lineups in the future. His 3 ball is going to be the most important factor for him when getting here.

He originally had spring on there
-
Robin jumped the gun. He's enrolling in June.
-
Since he's joining the team in the 23-24 season, would be count towards this year's numbers, or next year's?
-
That was what I was trying to think. If we have to create room, there's an obvious candidate that will likely be shown the door.
-
I had the same reaction. Like "why is he signing right now if he's a year out"?
-
And reclassifying up.

I was pretty impressed by him also. Only had 3 shots and looked to get his teammates involved pretty often. -

I had the same thought yesterday. When Gary is back, he'll play the minutes/role rice was getting, and could eat some of Brices minutes. -

Some good some bad, but overall good start to the season. Took care of business. -big rotation is going to be good. Love both mast and allick. -brice and JL felt like they were trying to force it a bit at times to get going. Interested in how keisei playing will open up the court for those two -Rice felt like he got bullied a bit today, which will happen as a freshman. Felt like he shot more than 3 times today. Hopefully he can get going over the next few games. Gary would probably play in his spot when he's back. -sam was great today. He definitely looked improved from last year, and it'll be hard to not play him if he can do what he did today Very happy with tonight. Hopefully get clarity on Gary's situation soon. Keisei just needs to get his ankle right -
This was his reasoning and I guess I can get that from an outside perspective. Boogie didn't play great at mizzou, so he's concerned about how he translates to a HM level again. And as I said before, Lawrence isn't being included in the equation imo. The big spot defensively will be a bit worse, but I think it'll be a similar scheme to what they ran last year. Double baseline post with a switch philosophy up top. With mast, you probably play a drop I imagine. I don't agree, but I can see the thought process at least
-
I think ulis is practicing with the team until he's told he can't, but I agree. I don't expect him to be eligible this year at all. The hoiberg boogie distinction is interesting, and Sam eluded to trying to be more comfortable with the ball in his hands and create in the post game presser last night. I would love if he can push boogie.
-
I had boogie penciled in as a starter, mostly because I wasn't sure about Lawrences comfortability yet at the 1, but him being comfortable should definitely elevate him to the starting spot. Boogie will and should still get some time, especially to let him work through some growing pains. I'm moreso interested in how Sam and/or Cale push boogie. They both have a year at least of experience in the system, so comfortability will be there for them. Lloyd is a wild card in this discussion and I genuinely have zero clue what to expect from him this year. I admittedly didn't watch last night, but I'll be there Monday. It's going to be extremely hard to redshirt Rice I think, but I don't know if he vaults over in the rotation? Maybe he can be a combo forward with CJ or Brice opposite a big in smaller lineups? Guys will miss time this year as it always happens, so maybe he's a relief guy they have in those circumstances. It's a good problem to have but it's something I'm watching, how rice is incorporated early, and what his role looks like as the season progresses
-
It'll primarily be Lawrence and boogie I imagine, but I'm interested in what wrinkles Fred uses to get keisei looks or even Brice looks. CJ had a good summer passing the ball on the overseas trip if I remember right for example. DHOs with mast/allick with a cutter along the baseline. I trust Fred as his offenses have generally had good assist numbers his time here. Just question it a bit
