Another Poll: Where is the Breakdown?
thrasher31 replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
It's been a massive failure. I can see why st John's was a struggle with Mullin despite the talent. -
That's my bare minimum expectation

What we want as a fan base isn't what will likely happen. We're already sitting near the top of P5 in "dead money" from fired coaches between football and basketball. Throw in the football facility being built, firing the bball coach with that large a buyout just can't happen from a financial standpoint

Imo, yeah. Needs to get positive momentum for recruiting to show "hey I adjusted some things and it worked. Here's the proof". Needs to show it for the transfer portal guys they'll be targeting -

Yeah I went with what I saw seeing from the post game stuff. Fred said "trey's still getting back up to speed" and then said "I stuck with the guys late who gave us the best shot". Two kinda contradictory quotes. Only saw the first -

Almost didn't want to go because of the noon tip. Decided to go after last night, I'll just work my workout around it -
Two I personally disagree with. Keon is probably going to return since he has already transferred and won't be eligible next year. A redshirt year could do him some good, so maybe that's the sell for him. I'm penciling him back. With Walker, as someone said above, both him and Trey are looking at coming back, with Walker more likely. If he does, Andre will probably hits the portal. Will be the second center at best on the roster. Walker will be above him and Kieta will be breathing down his neck. And Wilhelm can rotate between the 4/5 also, so he'll have a say in his minutes. Big thing in the offseason is obviously a ball handler. There's going to be some available, just choose the right guy.

uneblinstu's postgame chatter: vol 14; ed 22 - vs. Michigan

That was bad. They were mostly ticky tack calls too. Too inconsistent both ways. -

Trey was on a minutes restriction. And he can't trust Mayen I imagine. Only explanation -

It might just be me, but this was the most encouraging game of the season that illustrated to me that Fred's system can work. MASSIVE post disadvantage with two potential NBA guys and it was about as close as it could've been. -benching verge late is a decision I understand. I've seen verge not let anyone touch the ball to close games far too much. He's the reason we lost Illinois at minimum. Play him throughout the game, but in closing time you play Kobe (this is a much bigger issue, but is what it is) -keisei played tough and hard. I know others don't like his defense and while I agree, he always plays hard on defense. Get him stronger and that gap may close. -like I said, post discrepancy was massive all night. Walker is a good player, but Dickinson is an all American and he put it on display tonight. -bryce gets more and more comfortable with every game. He's figured out that he can drive at will pretty much and when he does, good things happen. Rest of the game opens up after he drives. We play like that, we have a significant chance against NW imo. They play more mobile bigs so you may see more Andre. -

Yeah I'm ok with sticking with the guys who got you to this point. Keisei and Kobe were playing tough and moving the ball. Plus, surrounding Bryce and Walker with shooters is the ideal situation. -

He's done it at times. Just not as often as I'd particularly want. -
Exactly. And I've liked some of the young guys they brought in. Our bigs have been pretty good this year, so while sangogo would've been positive, I don't look at it as that determintal. With Whitt, you roll the dice on the kid and do everything you can to seal it. Taking Elijah wood took us out of the running for him, and Elijah transferred after the year. Massive mistake, which is why I think they left one scholly open this time around. In the off chance someone like him opens up. I can get into who left and etc, but that's a long winded discussion. Lol

Sanogo is obviously playing extremely well at UConn, but missing on Whitt was about as big a blow that could've happened. He's not doing well at WF, but the idea of a legitimate playmaking PG on this roster was something the staff couldn't miss on. To compound that, they haven't recovered yet after missing on him. No pg this class upcoming and McPherson is a massive question mark even if I like his energy. There will be transfers available by the truckload here over the next month. NEEEEEEDDDD to get a point that runs an offense FOR OTHERS and not himself. Then having two creators with him and Trey next year (assuming he comes back) or Lloyd fits into the kind of system that Fred runs in theory. Getting supporting pieces will help, but a legitimate ball handling creator for others will help this team so much next year. Verge does it well, but he far too often goes tunnel vision which has been a reason for his benchings to close games.

Starting this a bit early. For obvious reasons. This one shocked me a bit. He was in line to start next year, so must be getting recruited over

The assist numbers weren't there, but I thought he made some pretty good reads. One cross court corner look to be specific. One other thing I noticed was A LOT more kick outs after driving. -
Keeping Up with Old Friends (The Transferred Thread)

He's one that might hit the portal after the season imo. No inside knowledge, he just isn't playing anymore for OSU. -
At this point, if things keep going this way ...
thrasher31 replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
That's an honest good question. Going from single digit wins to tourney appearance is an astronomical turn around, but I can't disagree. I'd say at minimum a bubble team that misses out? Maybe a team that just misses? Honest good question -

thrasher31 replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I'll welcome him back IF he makes adjustments to his staff. I like Loesners energy and he seems to be the most vocal assistant at the moment, so I'd hold onto him. Abdelmassih, well it's not working obviously so it's time to cut bait. Armon is kinda interesting. I wouldn't be shocked either way and I'm kinda shocked he's still here. Something needs to change though. Also, for 3 straight years they've taken "questionable character" guys. Cam Mack, Teddy Allen, and Alonzo verge. All of them had some sort of reason why they were available. Cam obviously just has some maturity issues as it looks like he's not even playing college ball this year (probably couldn't get a waiver to be eligible). He's wrapping up his degree at prairie view and grad transferring after. Teddy I was mostly ok with last year. But it wasn't a structural fit. Verge was a very very late addition and I'm sure they would've looked elsewhere had they known banton was going pro. But you can't replicate what happened at ISU obviously. That philosophy needs to change 100%.
