Huskers to Play in Golden Window Classic **Update**
basketballjones replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Any chance that you can travel from Las Vegas or California to Lincoln, Nebraska to play Chadron State - you do it. -
Is Trey McGowens the most important player in Nebraska Basketball History?

Kevin Cross has posters of Kevin Cross up... everywhere.

Just heartbreaking. RIP Coach Stewart -
I have been in all of these guys basements to view their rec rooms - and let me make it clear for the board, we will not be getting Traudt or Sallis. Sorry fellas.
-
You should have just protested the end of the Callahan and end of the Riley years like I did - then you wouldn't have to worry about a streak. Bball on the other hand... I will be missing my first home game since 1986 (while in the womb).

I agree with every word you have said here. And I have been lambasted for that opinion amongst my friends and bball friends. I've been much lower on Sallis than others have. But of course, everyone says, "Oh, I'm sure you know more than UNC, Duke, Kentucky, etc.." I've seen Sallis play, a lot. He's really good, no question. But if McGowens struggles with "explosion" then so does Sallis lol (btw, I've seen Sallis doink a couple dunks). I've also seen Sallis be completely shut down in the state tournament when forced to actually play point guard because Jaden Johnson fouled out.

I would argue it's the biggest coaching steal in all of power 5, prominent sports athletics.

https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/high-school/article246971577.html Coached Jose Ramos in high school, who ended up at NU.... and also ended up.... some places he and Danny Nee probably agree he shouldn’t have been, right? Or is my memory disappointing me? Shaky was also the guy who brought Frank Martin on the scene. https://omaha.com/sports/college/huskers/plus/how-dirty-money-led-nebraska-basketballs-1991-dream-season-to-postseason-disaster/article_c6e11991-142d-5e57-8aea-4935ea87dc85.html

I feel like you jinx us every time you do this. Now 3/4 of these guys won't even be on the team next year! -
At the current moment in time, there really is no other option than the B1G as far as financials go. Who knows if that will change... but history suggests it won't, as the B1G has been around a long time, and navigated a lot of muddy waters. I too also very much miss the old Big 8 and even the Big 12.

So Wilt Chamberlain then...?

I heard they’re really moving around well out there.

No, definitely, I appreciate the conversation. I apologize if my tone is coming across as defensive or argumentative.

Ubel's Freshman Season: Cross's Freshman Season: Less efficient and lower percentages for sure. But more points, rebounds, and assists. Obviously context matters. But both were bad teams (09-10 was 15-18 and 2-14 in the Big 12). He was one of the worst percentage shooters, but he clearly looked like he had the fundamentals and touch to improve over the years. Just my opinion of course, but that's what I saw. Cross had a mature body? That's just incorrect. Much was made about how much he was already making progress wise with as bad as a body as he came in with. I guess I'm not sure what you're arguing at this point. All I am saying is that I think he was going to turn into a very serviceable, versatile player by his junior and senior year. It's not exactly a ridiculous claim or too far out there.
-
I think he would have gotten a lot stronger and his body would have been cleaned up a lot. But agree, not like he was ever going to be flying high or whatever. In other words, general athleticism wasn't going to change. But I thought he was the type of guy who didn't need to be that, because he seemed to understand shot fakes, changing speed, and body positioning. I really liked KCross. Would never want him to be the 1-2 option on a team, but having him as a multi-position dude as a junior/senior would have been nice. I certainly HOPE Andre's upside is way higher, hahaha!
