  1. I would almost start Gill at this point and just roll with it. Let him figure it out. McVeigh is worthless if he's not hitting wide open kick outs.
  2. I hope we come out in one of those fancy new 3-3-5 defenses, or an old school 5-2 w/ a monster linebacker.
  3. I would walk the ball up the court make or miss, personally. But we also can't run the shot clock down and shoot a crap shot at the buzzer. Question - how do we match up? Who does McVeigh guard? Foster? Hell no. Watson? Obviously not. Just sag off KT and hope he's not hitting? Guess so... Tai and Glenn should be fine. Jacobsen and Morrow will be fine, but McVeigh worries me. Might be a better game for Gill and Taylor, defensively anyways. Good game for Roby to get to guard "up" a position, and not be too overwhelmed.
  4. Creighton runs ridiculously hard in transition. They then are very good at maintaining that pace and spacing into their initial actions of their motion offense. It's the key to everything they do, and must be stopped if you want to beat them. Both wings sprint to the corners as hard as they can. A rim running big gets his head on the rim and tries to seal for a post touch or to seal his guy out of the way for Watson or other point guards to attack the rim. If all goes well - the idea is fot Watson to never have to pass in transition until he's created havoc in a draw and kick situation, or laid it in. If Watson doesn't get what he wants from a driving perspective, he's immediately looking to bounce back to the corner running wings and hand the ball off. They follow those hand offs with ball screens from the trailing big - or - the trailing big down screens away while the hand off is happening, creating a spacing nightmare for the defense. Often, Watson never hands it off and keeps the wing in the corner, getting a ball screen for himself. They also work through their trailer really well. Often, they will just swing it through to him and give him a shoot/drive/draw and kick option. What they're really good at, is having that post who ran opposite in transition to the rim, seal the hell out of his guy, and receive a trailer to post high/low look. When their bigs receive reversal passes in transition in the half court, they are instructed to dribble hand off, or continue swinging it immediately into a ball screen. If both bigs get caught on the same side of the hoop, they do a great job of rolling and replacing on ball screens. This creates nightmares for the defense if the big who replaced on the role can shoot the 3pt shot. It's a motion offense with rules, basically. Guards don't ball screen, but they pass and pick away, and they can dribble hand off. 4's and 5's are constantly looking to reverse the ball and sprint hard into ball screens, or move the ball with dribble hand offs. They're instructed to roll hard, to the rim most of the time. Guys like Huff and Wegner pop on ball screens a lot. They don't run a ton of full sets. More quick hitters to enter the ball or to get quicker shots. But they do have some high quality sets with an outside and inside option. Defensively, Creighton is a pack-line, gap defense. They don't like to rotate off of helps - instead they show and go back to their man. How you beat Creighton - either get a ton of offensive boards to make the timid running in transition - or don't offensive rebound AT ALL, and sprint your rear end back. In my opinion, you also have to switch the crap out of everything to hopefully stop them from getting driving lanes. Also, I would play behind their posts and force their bigs to beat us 1on1 - NOT helping. 2's are less than 3's. And allowing CU to string together a few possessions of 3's, especially inside out 3's, is a good way to end your night quickly.
  5. Unfortunately, maybe fortunately, I don't think it's a personnel problem. Or at least, not in the sense that we physically do not have a player or two who we can expect to hit from a good clip behind the arc. It's mental, experience based, and lack of rhythm offensively that are creating our shooting woes. I personally believe that between McVeigh, Watson, Webster, Gill, and MJ that there's enough guys with good strokes who need to be knocking these down. I'm just going to remain positive and enjoy watching these guys grow up before our eyes.
  6. Ugh just saw the stats... McVeigh can't play 23 minutes and not score. He doesn't do enough other things to warrant that PT if he's not hitting. Road trip for him to forget, for sure. He'll be fine.
  7. Love this team. Giving everything they have. This will pay off eventually if they stay together. In the meantime, we desperately need to figure something out offensively from a spacing, rhythm, and offensive transition perspective. It's all about offense guys. Your offensive tempo and rhythm dictates everything. Everyone guards well anymore. They're all athletes, and the fundamentals are barely different from team to team.
  8. Va Tech - 69 NU - 65 I've predicted NU to lose the last 2 games and we've won - so I'll make the sacrifice.
  9. I'm not talking about missing both - it's about missing the second because he missed the first. If he made the first then obviously you make the second, because OT is worse case scenario.
  10. But then I wouldn't get the attention I so desperately crave.
  11. I, unfortunately, do not have an educated opinion on the roles/accomplishments/faults of our assistants. I did not get the opportunity with my schedule to see a Husker practice or workout this year. But fwiw, the new coach may be helping with a bit of this, but it's not like Coach Miles doesn't "know" these spacing and motion concepts. My guess was he's never felt comfortable with a point guard, or guards in general, to actually run it. I think he's got a ton of trust in Watson/Tai/Gill/Taylor's abilities, and also trusts the bigs we have in the program to play a bit more freely and be allowed to operate in the post when they choose. I'm never quick to compliment or criticize assistants. The HC creates the environment for the program and what roles everyone has. Fwiw, we still run the same general defensive concept we've always ran - before or after Coach Mo.
  12. First off, that's a game we usually lose in the non conference that constantly plays into our "what if scenario at the end of the year." Good, if not great, win last night. As a lot of you have noticed, I've been heavily critical of Coach Miles' offensive philosophy over the past few years. I absolutely despise our continuity hand-off/ball screen game. I vomited over our lack of transition push on misses and makes that were easy to get out and go. And more importantly, I had grown quite weary of listening to Coach Miles talk about how he's a motion coach every year, and speak about motion at every clinic or camp I saw him at - only to constantly run our 1-4 high quick hitters/entries into our ball-screen/hand-off action. BUT LAST NIGHT, BY THE GRACE OF THE THANKSGIVING GOD AND ALL THAT IS GOOD IN THE BASKETBALL WORLD - I saw beautiful flashes of real, read and react, dribble drive, pass screen away, 4 out 1 in, and 3 mover 2 blocker motion basketball. There were random post ups, flare screens, random (well timed) ball screens, fluid actions that built off of each other. We saw transition pushes into motion based principles, we saw people running actual specific lanes in transition, we saw a coach trust his point guard to push it and know when to not push it... They also only used their continuity offense and 1-4 high entries on dead ball or slow paced opportunities. WE controlled the pace last night with our intelligent offensive play. 'Twas a thing of beauty my friends... My only frustrations last night were slow defensive adjustments and late game management. How long did it take to figure out to switch all the guard to guard hand offs? How many times were they going to get us on that action where the trailing big dive bombed while the hand off was going on (effectively acting as a moving screen)? Once we finally figured this stuff out it was almost too late. Watson got that great steal when he finally figured out how to switch those hand offs. Also, can we get an adjustment on press break? Or how about a timeout, up 1, with 1.8 seconds to instruct your dude to try to miss the FT and get everyone matched up. Only shot that could be attempted with 1.8 seconds left is a full court 3, which beats you whether you're up 1 or 2. But if you make it, it gives them an opportunity to get the ball out of bounds and set up a better shot with a long pass. Miss the FT, instruct your guys to stay matched up without fouling, and Dayton never gets the ball past 3/4 court. Just my opinions. Last night was beautiful from this guys perspective... I very much enjoyed watching that team play.
  13. WE SWITCHED THE HAND OFF FINALLY CHrist....
  14. Dayton 70 Huskers 66 obligatory "hope I'm wrong"
  15. It's gonna be Watson! That's what I hope anyways. Good PG play = good team.
  16. They have to sell five 24-day challenges and get three friends to agree to sell before they're fully in.
  17. You sound like a good man, Jason. Appreciate your perspective.
  18. Anybody have any info on the testing?
  19. Ya know, I have some fundamental disagreements with your original post but we're just on different spectrums and I totally respect your opinion. But I must admit I really didn't think of this issue in regards to what I quoted from your post. The more I think of it - now I see where, maybe, 75% of the angst against this protest are coming from. I don't think it has as much to do with "the flag" or "blm" or "police relations" etc... I think people are just super annoyed that the one thing that's not politics is sort of being taken away from them and stuff they wanted to ignore is being shoved in their face. Maybe the point of the protest, but surely annoying to the average fan that harbors no ill will and just wants to watch some dang football. Good point. Appreciate your perspective.
  20. I'm willing to say that I love these or that I hate these - I'm just desperate to be a part of a community that can agree on something in 2016.
  21. Alright I'm really gonna be that guy and ask what makes him "twice the player." And I'm purely asking. No agenda. Totally open to hear what you ha e to say.
