Meh, Bahe started out his show saying he's taking off his blue colored glasses then dove in immediately with his blue colored glasses on. He basically turned everything into a positive for Creighton. Apparently McDermott did such a great job last year....so great they finished last in their conference.

I will be incommunicado for the Big Ten tournament so we will see if I am the bad luck charm. Maybe now that the pressure is off they can go out and just play. We will get Illinois #1 starter who has a salty 1.19 ERA this year.

Your tune has changed big time. Earlier this year you though Erstad had us on track to have as good a chance as anyone in the nation. That seemed incredibly overreactionary to a hot streak. This seems to be overreaction the other way to a bad stretch of baseball. I stated our pitching was deep enough for us to make a run in June. That hasn't changed. But I never imagined we would have one of the worst offenses in the Big Ten. With even just a mediocre offense this team could have been in contention for a top 16 seed.

Wow, a revelation that you feel that way. Beat a dead horse much? I can only surmise that the time of day reflected some booze posting which brings out your Osborne bashing once again. Your posts of the last few days make legitimate concerns about the state of the program, but they are undermined by your ongoing Osborne contempt. Could make one think that you had an axe to grind from day one. And FYI, this wasn't the first hire in history of a coach without coaching experience. Happens at the highest levels. See, Jason Kidd, Derek Fischer, and other numerous examples in college and pro sports. The Erstad hire may or may not work out, but it doesn't mean your premise is correct.Do you really think hiring a first time coach at the pro level is the same as hiring a first time coach at the college level...who was out of the college game for what, 15 years? It has nothing to do with Osborne, I would make the same comments if Eichorst hired him. I don't think the job should have been given to who loves Nebraska the most....and who would be here the longest. Rather, the job have been given to the best candidate. Judging by Osborne's comments when he hired Erstad..and recently seeing a national college baseball writer say Nebraska is one of the best non SEC jobs leads me to believe we probably could have done better. Maybe Erstad will adjust with added experience? Maybe not...and by that time Alex Gordon or Tony Watson will be retired and can take over. Despite your protests, your comments over time on the various boards here suggest its actually about Osborne. And the sarcastic and disrespectful tone of a 12:30 a.m. post suggests it as well. Knowing who the "best candidate" was who we could actually get to come here is an art not a science. Lots of things go into it and it's not only about the one factor you have beat into the ground for 4 years. We had a huge amount of college baseball experience on the staff with Bolt and Silva. Mike Anderson had years of college baseball experience and he ran the program into the ditch. Erstad has done considerably better than him. Barry Collier had college head coaching experience and it was a terrible hire (at least with the benefit of hindsight). If this one doesn't work out, you can say "told you so", but a lot of hires by ADs in all sports at all places don't work out, involving coaches with various levels of experience. I disagree with your view that this hire was destined for failure because Erstad didn't have college coaching experience. I've never stated Erstad is destined for failure because he had zero experience. I have stated however that I think we could have done better. And he really hasn't done anything to make me think differently nor would I call zero hardware...in a weaker baseball conference and 1 regional win "considerably" better than what Anderson did. Maybe this team will snap out of it at the Big Ten tournament. But you're right...the hire is over and done with. I'll keep going to games in hopes that Erstad will eventually build a winner.

NU Falls to 9-14 in the Big Ten. I guess this is what happens when the genius AD decides to hire a guy who has zero experience coaching?

He's not going to get fired. Not this year at least. If the team fails to make a regional the next couple years then I think things could get interesting. He's going to have to do a much better job developing talent and a much better job recruiting to his philosophy going forward if this program is going to be anything under him.
-
If we fail to make a regional in the next two years....I would hope and expect Erstad gets the axe. I was blasted on here by guys like Bugeater when I stated I wasn't sure Erstad was the correct hire. Not calling him a failure as of yet....but his tenure has been pretty disappointing. And with who is leaving the team after this year I'm not confident next year will be much better. Hell, maybe they will win the Big TEN tournament but this collapse is just downright terrible.
-
Sounds like he has been impressive so far......have to think during the year his head just wasn't in it due to his mom's declining health. No doubt that would be tough to play thru and even for the best players would have an impact on them. Unfortunate she passed away, but I'm sure he got some closure and can now concentrate 100% on basketball.

I hope he is given the keys day 1 even if he's not 100 percent ready. I doubt he is named the starter for the first game but I think he will eventually take it over. -
Given how the last month has played out...I would say yes. Perhaps they will win the Big Ten tourney. But with how they are currently playing that seems unlikely. And with what we lose off this years team combined with what Erstad has shown so far I think next year will be more of the same.
-
Annnnnd, Purdue takes the series. I believe I read Purdue at one point lost 16 straight Big Ten games this year and hadn't won a series in over two years. I think you can stick a fork in our at-large chances. This Erstad experiment has not worked very well thus far.

Transfer F Tyler Harris (Providence) -> Auburn

If true...I sure hope it doesn't mean holding on to the 13th scholarship yet again. I think Nebrasketball needs either a tough wing or a PF/C that, in either case, are capable of great D & rebounding with an occasional pick-and-pop (or roll) opportunity. That would be ideal...but how many good prospects are still out there? Perhaps we are still in on some prospects we haven't heard about just yet. -

I honestly don't believe it's a talent issue out of the starting lineup. But more so a philosophy and development issue. Unless something changes...we are never going to be a long ball hitting team under Erstad. Which is fine, if your team can string together hits and is built with good speed. This team can't on a consistent basis, nor does it have great speed. Things could get really interesting next year with losing our top two starters and our closer out of the pen...and likely our set up man(Howell.) In addition to this...we lose the middle of our lineup and I'm not sure Erstad really has anyone on the current roster to replace them.
-
We will need to sweep Illinois to feel good about any sort of postseason happening. That's unlikely to happen. The Erstad hire was a feel good hire with him being a great Husker and very good MLB player. But in reality....with 1 year of coaching under his belt as a volunteer assistant he had zero business getting this job. It still may work out, but to date there are still more question marks than answers.

Who are we going to target for our new assistant
huskerbaseball13 replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Does Kenya Hunter have any brothers that may want to be an assistant coach? Kenya has been a great hire. -
IMO this kid has elite athleticism and a very high ceiling. Like Petteway I think Miles and company will be able to get the most out of him. I think next year will be rough overall but I really like how the roster is coming together for the future....especially if we can land a couple bigs for defense/rebounding.

Boom! Big time potential. Now let's get a big. -
Transfer F Tyler Harris (Providence) -> Auburn
huskerbaseball13 replied to TheKamdyMan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
This will be his last chance on the college level....and to show he is NBA worthy via the draft. And we have minutes to offer....thus, if we land him I suspect both parties will be happy. Would be a very nice pickup for us. Hoping for the best. -
if NU can find a way to win 7 out of the 9 regular season games remaining...including a series win over Illinois I could still see NU getting a regional in Lincoln. It will be a tough task winning the Illini series but you never know.
-
Do you have a link to video? I think I saw it on the World Herald site; sorry, I'm not able to link. Lubach was out tonight with concussion systems due to a play at the plate Sunday...maybe that's what Erstad was pissed about? I haven't seen the film though.

Huskers sweep Krayton. Nail biter. Hopefully that gets the ball going back in the right direction. 6 in a row vs Krayton
