  1. Just a horrible team, as has been obvious for quite a while. Players aren’t good, coaching is abysmal. Not a lot of analysis required.
  2. Watch tape, easy to see that the ball gets stuck a lot. Catch and hold. Easy to defend
  3. That’s what she said
  4. Especially with posts (and no, I don't define Breidenbach that way). I've been really impressed with the young bigs in the league. Minnesota, Northwestern, Michigan, etc.
  5. SO sick of Wagners for Michigan.....
  6. Interesting, and thanks for posting. Young does not seem to be in much in these clips. He played a lot vs. Indiana, with his back to the basket a bunch. Perhaps our 5-out just doesn't work because we don't have 3 point shooters. Or just don't run it well. But I remain a skeptic of that approach in this league--the personnel necessary to run it will get abused on defense and in rebounding in this league full of quality bigs. Having said that, Northwestern is night and day better from last year.
  7. If Lakes plays more than spot minutes to shoot some 3s against zones, I quit. Starter in the Big? I don't see it.
  8. Interesting viewpoint. I have watched more Big 10 than I usually do, and I’ve really been impressed with the talent in the league, and size , of course, which I’m lumping in with talent. We typically have 2 guys on the floor at any time who really should be at a lower level. I don’t see that with the other teams. I mean, Illinois’ talent is night and day better than ours. About 3 guys in our top 8 shouldn’t even be playing Power 5 basketball. I agree the intangibles you mention are a problem. But night in and night out, even if we did that stuff better, we’d be over-matched. I truly believe we have the 14th best talent in the league. This year, of course, in which the Big talent is off the charts.
  9. i hesitate to weigh in since you’re a coach and all—but I’d say a whole lot of what is going on is a talent issue. As in, we don’t have as much as the rest of the teams in the league.
  10. Not a bad thing to be known for, Norm. Good quality to have. Unfortunately my realism can't be quashed. Would rather have more of your DNA. But I'm the "some people" in your post.
  11. And that seems to be how Fred wants it (perhaps its just that we haven't recruited to that yet, or Walker and Andre will bring it, but I always hear about the "5 out" stuff) . Not sure that ever works in this league. Northwestern's big, Ryan Young, was impressive last night. Seemed to open up the offense from what I saw.
  12. We've actually done the reverse. And its been painful to watch.
  13. Northwestern wins at Indiana. They look really good. We’re gonna finish 14th.
  14. Yeah, Connie wouldn’t have recruited her if she wasn’t good.
  15. Nailed it. Been like that for a couple years at least. Don't have players who can defend the dribble drive, but we survived that to some extent with a shot-blocking big controlling the paint. Also not many who can break anyone down off the dribble (especially Scoggin). Some people on here think we have enough talent, but it's pretty obvious watching film we don't have nearly enough of it. And lack of athleticism is a glaring deficiency.
  16. Well, a similar concept really worked for Jeff Hornacek. So far not so much for Teddy.
  17. There is zero question that this staff had every resource it has needed to recruit. The athletic director has nothing to do with having 7 active players. This is on staff. It wasn’t ready for this level. Can they grow into it? Would love to see it because they’re great people. But frankly from where our program was and where it is now, this has been a disaster.
  18. Even if you're right about that first class, we didn't put much on top of it. And I'm less a fan of the fall 19/spring '20 class than many on here. Average at best, and a couple of absolute head scratchers. And didn't address an obvious position of need.
  19. Just curious, what do you think Moos could have done, or could be doing, other than making a change at head coach?
  20. I went with recruiting. The coaches at this level are all good, it's mostly about having the players. I mean, there are some who are exceptional at Xs and Os and game planning, vs. just good, but night in and night out you better have enough talent. And we are quite deficient in that area right now. I became really concerned in the class we signed Helms and Brady. As Sam likes to say, it's a guard's game, and that class was a huge struggle at that spot. We obviously lost out on some targets and settled. Both had a history of injury; both struggled to adjust upon getting here (one with some disciplinary issues in addition to physical problems, one with weight and fitness in addition to the injury history). In a class where we needed a quality point guard, we didn't get one. And missed even worse the next year at that spot. We have lacked athleticism across the board for all of Amy's tenure. That has to improve. You see that in defense and rebounding. Nicea was probably the most athletic, and that was a Yori recruit. The incoming class appears to be much better. Perhaps the staff will be allowed to see it through, and will follow it up with another good class. But the track record to date in recruiting is abysmal. A few decent recruits but not near enough Power 5 players, or ones who weren't damaged goods upon arrival. Had the poll allowed for "check all that apply", I would have checked a few other options, but recruiting is the biggest problem. I would have skipped Xs and Os and toughness. Would have checked the next 3 options, but some of those are a result of good old #1.

Would be difficult for that to work for Scoggin; she is not quick and cannot run well at all.
