Just had a thought reading through this thread. NIL might reinvigorate the redshirt year. Take a year, learn, and get better so on the back end you can command a bigger contract. Some of these per year amounts I see are mind blowing. A lot for mediocre talent. You don't even have to get that much better in your redshirt year

I don't disagree with this or @nustudent. Which really kinda highlights the pinch we're in. My only asterisk is if you get a wing it better be an Ade Dagunduro type that you can throw down in the trees and he starts chopping lumber.

Sure, but not one team is gonna accept a bid to the Crown over the NCAA tournament. This shows me this is not a serious tournament. Let's not kid ourselves this is about making money. And my thinking is if the investors that put this together could only scrape up enough money for a 500K purse they don't have much confidence in it either. Like I said this tournament only has a short time to try and become established and survive the expansion of the NCAA tournament. Before the announcement of the purse I'd have given it a puncher's chance. After the announcement of the purse I don't even think the people putting the tournament on think it has a chance. Hope I'm wrong because I think this tournament is a great idea and concept, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

It's meh. I'm not suggesting it had to be astronomical. But you can't even get to a cool million. Lame. There's a short window to have this thing take hold and be successful. Only a matter of time before the tournament expands. It's kinda like when I was a kid and you could win a Dodge Viper at Runza. But really when you read the fine print you won a year lease of a Viper. Lame
