David Rivers is questionable for tonight's game
tcp replied to FredsSlacks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
It's probably "Grapple" or maybe "Yerka". I'll be here all week ladies and germs. Thank you. -
So, um, Dimes, can you make me a non-rookie please? My count's in here somewhere. Oh, and re we seriously limited to only 50k for the avatar? Stacey Dales is very sad.

Well, crap a doodle doo. Test just got a bit harder, and I'm not even a Rivers fan. -
I vote #2. I'm not a fan of the chat system on this host. It's limited and crude, and there are no archives. And that bell annoys me, even if you can turn it off. It's existence annoys me. It's difficult when you have three conversations at once to direct to whom you're speaking (you can go old school IRC there, though), but I guess I've gotten used to the quick "quote". On the other hand, the need to constantly refresh the board thread to keep up is a sizeable technological drawback for a lot of people as well. One other thing: it's the road games where the traffic is heavier anyway, and we haven't seen how this place will look during one yet. Home games were always a little slow. All this reminds me why CN needs to cover hoops, because that technology is pretty outstanding for games. Anyhoo, I like keeping both options open, and using the road games as a better barometer of what will eventually become the new tradition around here. It takes a while for these things to emerge. Cip, I say do a pre-game kick off thread--they'll be slow for awhile until things catch on, but I think it's worth sticking with for a month or so.

Valpo's going to be an excellent early exam for this team's true capabilities. I think we'll lose that game, but hopefully we look good doing it. We have got to play more quickly, though, if we're going to get double digit wins this year. This team seems slow to me. Not necessarily physically, but maybe just the effect of still basically practicing a new system. But to me, quicker teams are going to slaughter us, and I think most teams we'll play will be quicker. Really looking forward to Thursday's game, though. It's nice to get an idea early of what your team will probably doing for the first half of the season. -
Southern Game Thread: Shooting at the walls....
tcp replied to cipsucks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
wow, cip. yeah, the new site's going to be a tough adjustment for game threads. wish we could have SBs system. thanks for giving the effort. probably homes games are going to be like this. should pick up for road play. I hope. anyway, interesting game. we're going to get butchered in the B1G. -

Midland Exhibition Game Thread: It Don't Come Easy.....
tcp replied to cipsucks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Casual fans are the least of everyone's concerns right now, even with the new arena opening up. I agree with a lot of guys on here that we should be significantly better for the grand opening season, and that shuld help ease some attendance problems at the new house. -
11/7/2012 - Exhibition: Midland Report Card

At the risk of a hijack, that might be for a lot of fans, but I'd argue that the players themselves matter as well. Not comfortable with sacrificing some and saying they're not good enough to save while this one is. Coach obviously wouldn't if given his druthers. I wouldn't trust a coach that would think that instrumentally anyway. Anyhoo, my bad. Enough said on the grading thread. By the way, am I going to sty a post count newbie forever? -

tcp replied to hhcdave's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I think over time you can grade to a curve and say so. But generally you should grade what you see. Is it good ball or not. Big difference between being critical and being mean. It's the latter that can become an issue. But this disgreement was minor, and not about the grade, but about how we saw something play out. It's a new team, so there's no preconceptions coming in and we'll see a wide array of personal takes on the action ntil a larger narrative forms and we become comment lemmings... -

I mostly disagree on the defensive scoring here. We played slow in the paint, and played with our hands everywhere else. Against a respectble Div 1 team, that's going to equate to a steady march to the foul line for opponents. Our assignments weren't especially sharp, either. I think it was a C effort for defense, but some siginificant concerns going forward. When Parker plays more with his feet than his hands, he has potential to be a pretty good player. It'll be interesting to see him develop or not this season, Man, I am mixed about Biggs' decision. He's legit. That has to be giving Miles reflux. -

well, that needs about a day or two to digest. all in all, I'm terrified. but there were some flashes of okay-ness in the second half. -
