  1. Then again, it might apply. Depending on whether we, the refs, like your coach and the name on the front of your jersey. That is all. Carry on.
  2. Why come to Nebraska? We have no history of NCAA tournament success. We've been on a bad skid with the current coach, the same guy who is recruiting you and for whom you'd probably be playing if you did choose to come here. So, why on earth? Well ... 1. Chances are really good you'll start. KU can't say that. Kentucky can't say that. Hell, Iowa can't even say that. 2. You'll play in a great conference. 3. Facilities are among the best anywhere. 4. Fan support is ridiculous for what they've had to cheer for. 5. We can put together a damn good NIL deal that would rival anyone, anywhere. 6. You've seen coaches turn beet-red and go all foaming-at-the-mouth ballistic during games? Can you imagine what they're like in practice? OMG. If you like getting berated and belittled on the daily, go there. But, if you want someone who's going to calmly walk you through things, have you seen Fred's sideline demeanor? 7. Don't judge us by last year's W/L record. We had season-ending injuries to a couple of key players. Watch the game film, see how even a short-handed team was giving them hell and trying to hang in there, and try to imagine how you might contribute. We're close. We're only missing the elements you possess. YOU are the missing ingredient. 8. If we do get it turned around, you will absolutely be a part of history. This would be the Cinderella story that all major sports media would focus on. You could be a part of it. You'd be a hero to this community. You might not ever have to buy yourself a drink in the City of Lincoln for the rest of your life. Ask Jamal Mashburn if the people in Lexington, Kentucky even recognize him and remember his name. 9. If you want to walk out of here with a degree, we have the academic support to make sure it happens. Is that enough to swing any good players our way? Is that enough to sell the kinds of portal players we'd need in order to make it happen next year? Or is our history of futility and our recent woes too much of a hurdle to overcome? Thoughts?
  3. 1. I really need someone to explain the block/charge/flop rules to me. Make this make sense. Is it some kind of algorithm refs use that weighs home team > road team, traditional power program > traditional doormat, while factoring in player recruiting ranking and how much the coach will go apeshit on them the next time up the floor? 2. Disappointing final 5 or so minutes, there. We were up 50-48. Do the math. They went on a huge run to finish us off. 3. But what did you really expect? We're down two starters off a team that had no depth to begin with. The fact we were even in it on the road at Illinois 34 minutes into the action is a minor miracle, really. 4. Suggests to me that, while we may have lost 40% of our starters to injury, Fred has not lost the locker room. No? I mean, these kids are still playing hard and trying to excel in their roles. I appreciate that. 5. Dainja just seems to be a bad matchup for Walker for some reason. Well, I mean, I can see he's good, but Walker seems to struggle against him more than you'd expect. 6. I wouldn't be shocked if we lose the rest of our games but neither would I be shocked if we sneak a win or two. These kids haven't quit, and I feel so much more motivated to cheer on this crew than any the last 3 seasons.
  4. And if I didn't, I would happily refund the university half of my salary. Heading into game 70 with 11 wins be like ...
  5. Since we're doing trivia today, Danny Nee's 5th team went 26-8. Danny Nee's 4th team went 10-18. Not saying that Ramel Lloyd is any Tony Farmer. BUT his dad is apparently buddies with Tony Farmer. So, there's a certain symmetry in seeing what Fred might do in year 5 with the son of a guy who's buddies with a guy who sat out as a RS on Danny's 4th team.
  6. Did Matt write that algorithm?
  7. So you're saying he should have compared him to the below average?
  8. He’ll learn not to make definitive statements unless he has proof positive.
  9. Yeah, I mean that was the thing that made Tim‘s termination somewhat palatable, the idea that we were replacing him with what should have been an upgrade. I’m sure there’s a baseball analogy there somewhere of trading off a solid pitcher that you really liked and picking up last year’s Cy Young winner on the free-agent market only for that guy to tear his rotator cuff while the guy you traded away wins 20 games.
  10. So, @millerhusker how's your weekend going? Anything interesting happening in the world of sports in your area? How about you, @AuroranHusker? I'm thinking it's an interesting time to be a Husker fan.
  11. We? I think it's just me. Yeah, I'm still kinda salty about that one.
  12. His numbers against Class A competition as a junior are similar to what Elliot Eliason did against Class C as a senior.
  13. From the Journal-Star article, he's averaging a double-double. He's 6'10 and probably still growing. His video shows smooth athleticism. As well as some skill. And he's from Lincoln. Why would you NOT offer him?
  14. More um ... Mid season highlights - Treyson Anderson highlights - Hudl You got a 6'10 Lincoln kid with this kind of skill and athleticism. EVEN IF Jacob is right that he's low to mid major at this point (which I think is debatable given what I see), you still make a spot for him because his upside is tremendous and you're trying to start getting Nebraska kids to stay home. This is almost no-brainer territory.
  15. He moves really well for a kid that tall and that young. This is the kind of kid you probably take a chance on, even if he's not there right now, just because he has the measurables and potential AND because he's from Nebraska. Lincoln, even.
  16. That was back when he thought he was a one-and-done lottery pick, go win a natty at Gonzaga, and then be a Celtic or a Laker the next season. Times change and so do people.
  17. Surprised no one had this up yet. It's tradition, guys. C'mon. OK, so, down 2 starters from the get-go. Wasn't expecting much. Had some good shooting to get us going and actually led 25-22 at one point. And then Northwestern went on a 38-12 run and that was pretty much the turning point of the game. We had them on the ropes but for that 38-12 run. Take away that 38-12 run, and we'd have been right in that thing. Credit to Northwestern. They have some players. They play hard. They did a good job of scouting some of our tendencies. And they are one of the best teams in the Big 10 right now and ranked #43 on Kenpom. Which, by itself, is kind of surprising considering their coach only won 8 games and went 3-17 in conference play in his 7th season at the helm a few years ago. I mean, any sane program would have fired him right then and there. Don't know what Northwestern was thinking. Five straight losing seasons before this year. How did that guy even have a job? He should have been flipping burgers at Burger King, amiright? Right next to Tim Miles, whose San Jose St team is now just 14 spots behind us in the Kenpom rankings. Anyway, did you know Jamarques Lawrence is shooting 41% from beyond the arc in league games? It's true. And he had a solid line tonight, too: 4-9 FGs; 4-8 3ptFGs; 2 bds; 3 asst; 1 TO; 12 pts; 33 minutes. Acquitted himself quite well. Don't anoint him some kind of savior of the program, but give him credit. He's not terrible. He's not like this year's version of Elijah Wood. He's got some game. I kinda like this Lawrence kid. And Keisei continued to show he's serviceable. Better than serviceable. Calling him serviceable at this point is like damning him with faint praise. He deserves some credit. Biggest difference in the game (other than turnovers) was rebounding. We got murdered on the boards. And I kinda feel like that wouldn't have happened if we'd had our two hurt guys. Did you really think we'd win without them? Do you think we might have had a chance with them?

  19. End of the year discussion. Trev: Well, Fred, I know you had some injuries and you gave it your best, but sometimes ... Fred: And don't forget my best recruit was wearing a K-State uniform scoring 18 points per game. Trev: Fred: Trev: Like I was saying, sometimes you just have to run it back the next year and hope the basketball gods quit acting like dicks.
  20. I think one of the odd silver linings about all these injuries is that young kids will get some reps who would otherwise ride the pine, and we and the coaches will get an opportunity to see them play. Gonna get a good look at Jamarques Lawrence tonight, I would think. Think I kinda already know what we have with Denim and the other freshmen.
  21. Yeah I don't know, man. I think our biggest need is a primary ballhandler/distributor who can score when needed. We have plenty of guys who can shoot 30% from 3-point range. And while the comparisons to Bandoumel are good ones, he needs to be a guy who can step into the PG role. I think he can be a lot better shooter than Bandoumel. I also think his highlights show a kid with excellent speed and quickness, explosive leaping ability, good length, and reasonably good handles who is shown to make some solid passes. If he played point, he strikes me as the balance of a guy who *can* score but probably could run the offense as well.
  22. So, @millerhusker if you just look at things on paper, it seems reasonable to suppose that both Sallis and Tonje could potentially not only enter their names in the portal but also find their way to Nebraska if they did. I assume you'd slot them both as starters. Who would you insert around them? I'm leaving out the NDSU kid because these other two at least have some Nebraska connections that might draw them back here. And they both fill positions of need, for sure.
  23. Colorado St is having perhaps a more disappointing season than we are. Yet, John Tonje is having a career year. He's played in 4 seasons now, but would have an extra year of eligibility due to Covid. If he swung our way for some reason, we'd get one season of a guy who shoots nearly 40% from 3-point range. Given how CSU's season is going, there's reason to think he might be interested in trying something else for his final season of basketball. And playing in a big time league might be an inducement. 2022-23 2021-22 2020-21 2019-20 GP MIN FG% 3P% FT% REB AST BLK STL PF TO PTS 21 30.4 45.2 39.0 78.7 5.0 1.2 0.4 0.9 1.8 2.0 13.2 30 25.3 46.1 36.4 82.1 3.0 0.9 0.2 0.4 1.7 1.0 9.1 28 20.2 38.9 31.3 85.7 2.9 0.8 0.2 0.4 1.5 1.1 6.6 31 8.5 46.1 43.5 67.7 1.0 0.3 0.0 0.2 0.9 0.5 3.6
