Can the guys who break stuff down give us a breakdown on this?
-
I'm really torn between knowing any other coach would have been fired by now or would at the very least be getting ready to list his house on the one hand, and just being tired of coaching searches on the other. I watch what the team is trying to do this year and I can respect what I see on the floor. On offense and on defense, they at least have a scheme. And I think it's a scheme that would work if we just had more talented players. That's our weakness. The overall lack of talent. Particularly in terms of having at least a couple of dudes who can fill it up. So, if we somehow manage to keep the good players from this squad who have remaining eligibility, keep our November signee, and somehow hit paydirt in the portal this spring ... It's at least worth seeing whether Fred still has a shot at turning this around.

2023 SG Parker Friedrichsen -> Wake Forest...for now
Norm Peterson replied to royalfan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
We hired Barry Collier; Notre Dame hired Mike Brey. Oh well. -
Derrick Walker plays defense against opposing bigs. He knows what they do. He knows what they get away with when they lower their shoulder and bang into him to create space. When he gets called for the exact same thing that was a no-call on the other end of the floor -- and when it happens consistently (it's consistently inconsistent) -- it's obvious. Last night, it was just brazen.

Oh bullshit. There was nothing disingenuous about it. People were going on about how we dropped the ball on Keontae Johnson, including coming after ME specifically, and I just pointed out how I hope they were just as willing to consider Chris Beard as a potential coach. Otherwise, they're just being hypocrites. You're the one who blew this up.
-
Since we didn't actually sign Keontae Johnson and he's no longer a recruit, and because the current discussion about him centers around how well he's playing for someone else, it seems like that thread should be moved over here as well.
-
So what you're saying is I don't get to respond at all to Royal fan specifically calling me out saying we dropped the ball on Keontae Johnson. See the post immediately prior to the one of mine that you moved. You're also saying you like being able to have it both ways.
-
No ... being inconsistent across threads is saying, as to one guy, I'm happy to ignore the credible accusation made against this guy who we think we could have had but, as it turns out, is having a great season for someone else, while simultaneously saying that another guy is toxic because of a credible accusation against him. Either we accept credible accusations and find them disqualifying or we don't. As to Beard, I was told that his fiancée recanting her accusation wasn't sufficient because there was an arrest report showing cops what she said at the time and lots of powerful people can get women to withdraw complaints for whatever reasons. But, for some reason, with Keontae Johnson, we can ignore an accusation against him by someone who did not recant simply because cops decided the evidence was not strong enough to charge him. I'm just pointing out there might be a bit of a double standard going on here. It's a legitimate point. You just don't like it because you would have taken Johnson but don't want Beard.

OK, if you insist.

From a different source: The alleged assault occurred at an off-campus apartment Feb. 26. Johnson's accuser had reportedly been drinking hours before the party and during it. She contacted police Feb. 28 after undergoing a sexual assault exam. Earlier this month, Gainesville police listened in on a phone call between Johnson and his accuser. The Florida basketball player said he had unprotected sex with the woman after she was intoxicated, according to Legacy-Cole. He said during the call that he had asked for her consent. Two witnesses described the woman accusing Johnson of sexual assault as "heavily intoxicated" and "not making any sense" at the time the alleged assault occurred, according to police.
-
OK so you think it's wrong to expect people to be consistent across threads? OK.
-
You bald-faced hypocrite. A woman made an accusation against Keontae Johnson for sexually assaulting her. She never recanted. He admitted having sex with her. He claims it was consensual. Witnesses say she was so drunk she was incoherent. She denies consenting. Chris Beard's fiance denies he tried to strangle her and says she told cops that the night he was arrested. Surely you see the difference.
-
I don't care about it anymore. However, there was a time after Connie Yori got fired where people on the women's board didn't want any further discussion about the wisdom of her termination and lashed out at anyone who tried to defend Coach Yori. One person in particular, who has given more downvotes than he has posts, was following me around downvoting everything I posted, whether it was inflammatory or innocuous. I'm going to guess that roughly half of my total downvotes came during a 2-3 month window on the women's board. At the time, it really pissed me off. Now, I don't really care. I've been sort of numb to being downvoted ever since. Although I do have a deep and lasting contempt for people who go square dancing a lot.

unelinstu's postgame chatter: vol 15, ed 19: Ohio State
Norm Peterson replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
What are the rules? Isn't it like the player had to play fewer than 1/3 of the team's total games and all in the first half of the season? If that's the case, then yes, he would be eligible for a medical redshirt, because we played in 32 games last season and Wilhelm logged minutes in only 10 of them. I believe those are the rules, so I believe @NUdiehard is correct. -
Everyone who thinks we should have signed Keontae Johnson but wouldn't touch Chis Beard, please exit to the left where a nice lady is waiting to give you a shot of Thorazine. I consider it a badge of honor. Like 80% of my downvotes come from two accounts who, themselves, almost never post.

Dear Brenda, How are you? I am fine. By the way are you related to Paris Hilton? Anyway, I think it would be awesome if you would gather all the basketball officials in one place and get everyone to sit down and decide once and for all what is a block and what is a charge. I think I speak for all fans everywhere in saying it would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Norm P.S. Last night's game between Nebraska and Ohio State was the worst officiated game I've seen in the entire time Nebraska has been part of the league and I think you should do an investigation to find out if the officials were on the take. P.P.S. I sit very far away from the action so how was I able to see things that all three of your guys who were actually on the floor missed? Please schedule an annual eye exam for the tall bald guy especially.

I'll take the apology, one of those expensive beers, and two hotdogs, please.

This board needs a "shots fired" emoji.

It's OK. I think I have the most down votes on this website.

Looks like about 15,439 tickets in attendance tonight.
