Ranked on January 1 for the first time in … how long was it?
-
We have 3 really tough road games in the next six. We need to win at least one of them and then win the other 3.
-
I think he meant 4-2.
-
If you divide the rest of the regular season into 3 sets of 6 games, my hope is that we'd win 4 out of each group of 6. That would get us to 13 conference wins. I think we could potentially do better (could also do worse) but 13 wins in this conference this year would get us a good seed in the NCAA tourney rather than having to worry about whether we did enough to get into the dance. You look at those next 3 groups of six and tell me you cannot find 4 wins in each group. I think the first set is the toughest, actually.

Four out of every six. I want to see us win 2/3 of our games from now to the Big Ten tournament.

I was wondering more how would the fans feel rather than how he would feel. Would he be accepted back with open arms? The team might feel differently, but I think the fans would eventually get over it. There's a certain symmetry in returning to where you started. And we definitely need someone with his skillset. He's really worked on his game and developed the potential we could see he had when he was here. I guess stranger things have happened.

I think top 50 is Q1 if it's on a neutral court. Which is why it'd be really nice if Okie State went on a tear.

In the 7 games since Jacob made that comment, Mac McClung is shooting over 32% from three-point range and averaging almost 17 points per game. He's scoring more than 12 ppg on the season as a whole. He put up 18 points in 25 minutes in a 1-point loss at Syracuse. As a true freshman. I'd like to see another unranked true freshman scoring in double figures for a Power 6 conference team. I'm not going to do the work to scan the rosters of all the P6 basketball teams to see whether any other true freshmen are averaging double figure scoring and, if so, what their recruiting rankings are. But if anyone knows of any others who are averaging double figure scoring and weren't at least Rivals 4-stars, I'd be curious who they are.

I don't want to keep bumping the Yavuz Gultekin thread to talk about a freshman guard at Georgetown. @Jacob Padilla and I had an exchange about him about a month ago. I commented that I looked at his HS highlight film and assumed he was a Rivals 4-star, maybe top 50 talent, and was shocked to find out he was unranked by Rivals. I thought they, and college coaches across the country, totally missed on him. Jacob responded by saying: Posted November 23

It was a hypothetical. I don't think there's any chance he'd come back, but if he did would we welcome him back with open arms or would there be some lingering resentment over being jilted? I don't think there's any question we could use him.

Two teams ahead of us in the AP poll lose: ASU and Wisconsin. Not much chance for anyone else dropping between now and the next poll. Hopefully we jump ahead of at least ASU. Hard to rank a team that just pissed itself at home against a team outside the top 250.
-
That's supposed to be one of his strengths. There's a highlight vid where he's talking to someone just off camera and shooting treys and it says he hit 20 in a row.
-
I’d take Michael, not Ed.

I think everyone agrees we need to find another big for next year. Someone with some experience would be nice. A graduate transfer, if there's a good one out there. So, let me ask you this: If Michael Jacobson graduates in May, would you want him back? He's 6'5" and one of the best 3-point shooters in the state. I'd be curious to see what @basketballjones thinks. I can see why/how a kid could fly under the radar. Questions I'd want to know answers to are: 1. How explosive is he? Can he dunk effortlessly? 2. How smooth are his handles? 3. What's his motor like? 4. So, he hits at a high percentage; does the shot look good? (i.e., good form, quick, good release point, elevation on the jump, etc., such that it will translate to the next level.) 5. Is he scoring at all three levels? Is he getting to the rim, can he pull up mid-range off the dribble, etc. We don't need another guard this year, but would he be willing to attend prep school for a year? Would he be willing to greyshirt?

Which Central kid? Are you talking John Tonje? He's a senior, right?

KenPom 2018-2019 KenPom Rankings Thread

Tough day to hate Creighton. I'm sure I'll manage somehow. -
"They might have one of the best one to five starting lineups, top to bottom …"

Basketball needs an announcer like Johnnie Miller was for golf: knowledgeable; to-the-point; and occasionally a little too candid. Miller: "Fat guys are clutch." Lampley: "Whoa, wait, how can you say that?" Miller: "Have you ever seen a fat guy miss a short putt?"

Royal Crown and Crown Royal continue to miss out on a great opportunity for a joint marketing strategy.

Yeah, I read he had a heart attack, but it sounds like he's recovered and has been cleared to resume play.
