  1. This would be nice payback for the Michael Jacobson thing.
  2. If he's immediately eligible (grad transfer?) then he'd have 2 years of eligibility. He's already transferred once (from Penn State.) Marginally competent from 3-point range, but he does a lot of other things very, very well. And 6'3" for a PG is a plus.
  3. In theory, it can work. So far as I know, Matt A doesn't do any opponent scouts. He's not involved in game-planning. He's not going over film, at least of our current players. I mean why would he? He's a recruiter. While the other assistants are pouring over game film preparing for Illinois, Matt A can be pouring over game film for Mater Dei high school. While the other coaches are watching film from Pitt vs. Ga Tech in order to prepare for Ga Tech, Matt A can pour over film from Pitt vs. Ga Tech to figure out which Pitt player to go after next in the portal. The work Matt A can do on recruiting, theoretically at least, would allow other assistants to spend more time on coaching. In theory. In actuality, it probably does hamstring us to some extent. Matt A can't cover it all. You have to have some pretty well-defined responsibilities so that all the tasks are covered. Does Armon have to do anything on recruiting? If so, what? Do you expect him to deliver any recruits? Is Matt A always the primary recruiter on every prospect? Anyway, I think it can work in theory. In practice, we need to see some more results.
  4. Would it be considered slamming the old staff, which had only been here two years, if we applaud this hire?
  5. Like maybe slide into Marc Boehm's old job where you have no discernable responsibilities other than to cash your paycheck? j/k
  6. What did Lutz do that Doc will now be doing? What makes anyone confident that Loenser is a good recruiter? Does the boost in recruiting come from the simple fact that he'll actually be doing some? So zero plus anything is more than what we had before? Or do we have some reason to believe he, in particular, is a good recruiter?

  8. Seems like a good fit.
  9. Lat better be looking over his shoulder. Not sayin; just sayin.
  10. Not gonna lie: I really like what I see here. West Coast Elite Basketball on Twitter: "6’9” F Wilhelm Breidenbach of Mater Dei (2021) is going to bring a multi dimensional option to Fred Hoiberg next year at Nebraska. So skilled and versatile on offensive end with the agile feet and length to compete defensively @TeamCezer @MaterDeiHoops @teamwhynot https://t.co/NBF15ZvOB8" / Twitter
  11. No problemo. That's what I'm here for.
  12. We apparently heard from someone who reached out to us before they put their name in the portal. Which is kinda like your wife asking you if you want to get frisky. That's generally a sign that she's interested in something, and not just surveying your current feelings. When a guy who hasn't entered the portal reaches out to someplace in particular, it suggests to me they want to make sure the landing place is available before they take off.
  13. I like Dean Smith's result better.
  14. I think we'll be a better team when Lat is our 4th option from 3-point range rather than our best option. I'm OK with him having a green light. But he'll get better looks (and have more opportunity to get his feet set) if we catch other teams looking because they're having to guard 3 other shooters tight.
  15. That's what I'm hoping. And I'll continue to hope it until he's committed somewhere else.
  16. I can't get this thing to tell me what our forecast would be if we dropped Shamiel and added Devin Askew. Maybe Torvik's computer is just laughing at me for asking the question. Like, seriously? You think you guys have a shot? Please.
  17. This Devin Askew news is really interesting. As @49r says, there would probably be bigger-name suiters than us. But I was just reading on Twitter from a Kentucky sports radio guy that Askew reached out to Louisville and they weren't interested. T.J. Walker on Twitter: "UofL: Devin Askew personally texted UofL asking for a spot but we're too good for him! Also UofL: Is Rocket Watts a must get? He'd be perfect. https://t.co/097Uggaxnt" / Twitter So, I mean, stranger things have happened. We got Bryce McGowens for goodness' sake. And Askew has a close connection to another of our '21 recruits. I could see this happening. And, if it does, we'd have potentially an insane backcourt next season.
  18. The freshman year is typically a year where you shake off some jitters as you adjust to the college game, and adjust to the college experience generally. Think about Glynn Watson, who was one of just a few guys in the last 10 seasons to sniff 40% from 3-point range but missed like his first 11 3-pointers in college. I know this doesn't affect just us, but I'm liking the fact that we'll have at least a couple of guys who got that out of the way already but still count as freshman.
  19. Interesting.
  20. At the start of the juco season, you could be forgiven for having doubts about Keisei. But since about the 6th or 7th game, he's been impressively efficient. It makes you go from thinking he'll ride pine and maybe doesn't belong at this level to wondering if maybe he can contribute and contribute a lot. My hangup on Keisei is Trevor Lakes and Jervay Green. Trevor was this 47% 3-pt shooter who couldn't see the floor on a team that desperately needed a couple of shooters. What he did a level or two below did not appear to translate. Similarly, Jervay, who was one of the top 5 juco recruits in the country, simply couldn't get it done at the next level. Is Keisei's high 3-pt% a function of the closer arc in juco ball? Lower caliber of defense? That probably has something to do with it. Will his game translate? That's kind of the question nobody has an answer to yet. I'll tell ya, if he's quick and athletic enough to play defense, his shooting could punch his ticket to playing time. He has a really good platform as a shooter: he has a very compact and repeatable shot; he gets good elevation on his jump; he has a very quick release; and he shoots well off the bounce going either left or right, all of which will allow him to get shots off without needing a ton of space. He could fall flat on his face like Jervay. Or he could be sneaky good. Only time will tell. But if "sneaky good" ends up being what we get, it'll have a very favorable impact on the W/L numbers.
  21. The guys in the front row on the far right must have had their numbers assigned based on age.
  22. Looks like the kind of numbers you'd expect of a Rivals 4-star.
  23. From what I've seen of this kid, I'd throw my hat in the ring and try to sway him away from SLU. His top-50 billing was earned.
  24. Robin writes for Rivals. Right now, Wilhelm is a 3-star on Rivals but he's a top 150 guy and, with the numbers he's putting up at the start of their season, it's not out of the question that he'd get that 4th star back from Rivals.
  25. Here's our boy in the 2019 Class C-2 Fatherland Athletic Conference Tournament played at the Prague social hall against a team from Hay Springs or Slovenia or someplace like that. He scores 6 of his team's first 8 points, commits 2 of their first 3 fouls, and snags a pair of rebounds before the Slovenians from Hay Springs are forced to call a TO baby. He's the tall guy in green. Jersey #15. Slovenia v Lithuania - Full Game - FIBA U16 European Championship 2019 - YouTube
