  1. ESPN still gave him a rating of 86, which would have put him in the top 50 players for 2021 by ESPN.
  2. Well, he skipped out on part of his senior year of high school to join DePaul after everyone else on that team had been practicing for a few months. He would have been way behind. He will be joining us late spring and have a chance to fully acclimate.
  3. I was thinking the same thing. Except, I think this kid is probably better. My thought was that we were fortunate the KU kid decided not to commit.
  4. With the addition of Edwards, it's now even more intriguing to wonder how the scrimmages would turn out if we divided up the squad. But, instead of giving the freshman group one of the sophomore players, why don't we just play freshman against the world? Rosters: T Mac 6'4 K Web 6'0 Keisei 6'1 Dalano 6'9 Lakes 6'7 Lat 6'9 Walker 6'8 vs. B Mac 6'6 Wilcher 6'5 Keon 6'7 Breidenbach 6'9 Eduardo 6'10 Oleg 7'0 I think those are two squads that both have some offensive firepower and could put up a lot of points. Not saying the freshmen would win, but they'd make it a game. Adding Keisei to basically the end-of-year starters from last year I think makes them better than they were, and gives them a shooter we desperately needed last year. The freshmen, though, are absolutely flush with talent. Loaded. Guys at every position who can score the basketball. I would love to see this matchup in a scrimmage.
  5. Love that auto-correct. Type juco and Siri decides it should say judo. I've even had times where I correct it to what I wanted and Siri changes it back. That bitch.
  6. It's easily top 10, so even if it's not #3, it's gotta be within spitting distance.
  7. Someone I know (cough cough @49r cough cough) ran some numbers to try to figure out what our recruiting class would be ranked if we landed Keon Edwards. Someone I know is good at the maths. Someone I know wanna share the answer?
  8. Getting commits from other top 50 players makes someone who might not have thought about you seriously before at least stop to say, hmmm, maybe.
  9. Remember Glynn Watson, Ed Morrow, Michael Jacobson, Andrew White III? That was like the pinnacle of Husker hoops recruiting in the era of on-line recruiting services. This class blows that one out of the water. Absolutely blows it out of the water.
  10. I see a kid with handles good enough to take it to the rim, but also decent enough of a shooter to keep defenders honest. Good length, good athleticism. Jerry Meyer projects him as a future P5 starter. I will take it.
  11. Jerry Meyer's scouting assessment from 24/7: Has a thin build with good length for a wing. A crafty athlete who can get elevation in space. Can score from all three levels. Handles to get his shot. Not a prominent defender but has potential to be a versatile defender. Rebounds his position. Utility type player.
  12. When he reclassified from the 2021 class to enroll early at DePaul, he was dropped from the Rivals and ESPN rankings. He still carries a rating score from ESPN, though, of 86. In the 2021 class, of which he was a member, that would place him somewhere between 34th and 47th on the ESPN top 100. Robin says he climbed as high as top 25 and a 5-star for Rivals, but I'm not sure he held that ranking when he reclassified. Still, outstanding player and a huge recruiting coup for us. He had some big boys involved in his recruitment, including FSU, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn and Arizona St. all in the mix.
  13. Keon Edwards was a 2021 recruit. But he decided to enroll early at DePaul and reclassify to the 2020 class. I'm not sure that he had a Rivals rank after he reclassified. If you look at his rating on ESPN, though, it would put him in the top 50. So, for 2021, we have 4 players that are or would have been among the top 100 players in the ESPN rankings for the class of 2021. We have the horses to compete at the level of teams in the upper half of this conference. Granted, they'll still be young, so, if not this year, then certainly next. It's all on the coaches now. Ain't no excuse to finish in the bottom 1/3 of the league with this crew. Probably no excuse to finish in the bottom half.
  14. Nebraska got Bryce McGowens and it got everyone else to say "why not?"
  15. Fudge me! (Except I didn't say "fudge.")
  16. I ran out of Metamucil, so I have one hand full of hope and the other hand is completely empty.
  17. And half the coaching staff have left as well. So McDermott is like chasing his tail trying to find coaches to hire to go recruit. Hard to recruit when you're trying to fill coaching vacancies. And they have a lot of spots to fill.
  18. For some reason, they don't seem to be interested in going out and finding a true PG. They seem to be comfortable filling that role with the players we already have. One thing I think is clear: there will be no more reaches this year. Kojenets might be a project in some respects, but he seems to have some shooting skill and so they must feel they can work with it. But, like last year when we took Woods, we were clearly reaching. There won't be any reaching this year. Now that we have Wilcher, I think the coaches are satisfied that they have the boxes checked and they don't need to go find warm bodies just to fill a roster. No more reaches. That's a good thing.
  19. That "returnees" group consists of basically our starting lineup to end the year plus a couple of extras. And you had to think a bit about the question of whether, if you took Andre, who will be a freshman again, and put him with the newcomers, they could hang with or potentially even beat the vets. I'd actually like to see that matchup. Probably by the end of December, it would be a pretty evenly-matched scrimmage. Once they get used to the offense and to college, the newcomer group is comparatively loaded with shooters.
  20. For those interested in Thor's and Shamiel's status, here's a free article from Robin Washut stating both are considering pro careers vs. returning to NU and the coaches are supporting and assisting them with those decisions (which I interpret to mean telling them how much PT they're likely to have if they come back.) 21. Just your average joke.
  22. Not officially. And I don't have any inside info. But the various correspondents who report about this stuff for the various on-line publications have speculated that the players who are staying vs. going are as set forth above. I think it's just kind of been accepted as the conventional wisdom. If it's not the case, I will gladly issue an apology and correction to the players whose intentions I've misidentified.
  23. Ouch. And apparently their 2nd best recruit -- Mike Miller's kid, Mason -- hasn't signed his LOI yet. Looks like they're getting nervous they're going to lose him as well. Although maybe his dad is looking at coaching gigs and Mason is just waiting to see if his dad goes anywhere.
  24. Here's an interesting topic for discussion: If you took next year's freshmen and the incoming sophomore and played them against next year's upper classmen and returning sophomore, which team wins? Rosters: T Mac K Web Dalano Lakes Lat Walker vs. B Mac Keisei Wilcher Breidenbach Eduardo Oleg Would your answer depend on whether they played at the beginning of the season or the end?
