  1. Yep, see my post right above yours.
  2. Two starters, Lat and Thor, are a combined 12 for 48 from beyond the arc since the first game. They were a combined 1-11 tonight and 1-18 over the last two games. You just can't have that. That's a black hole in the middle of your starting lineup. At spots where this offense needs shooters. Yvan started tonight and looked a lot better than he has previously, but he still has a deficit of offensive skills, which you saw on that missed point-blank putback attempt off the Dalano Banton miss. Trey McGowens does a lot of good things but he's not a great shooter and, while he makes it to the line a lot, he's hitting less than 60% from the charity stripe. Banton is a great facilitator and is generally good at slashing to the basket off the bounce. Tonight, he was good from beyond the arc, but he generally is no better than mediocre from deep. And, while Teddy Allen leaves you scratching your head at some of the shots he makes, he also leaving you scratching your head at some of the shots he misses. If anyone wonders why we suck, that's why. You have a starting lineup that averages about 30% from 3-point range in an offense that is oriented around the 3. And the most potent offensive weapon, Allen, has a game built for hero ball in an offense not built for hero ball.
  3. I'm regrettably not as up on this team as I wish I was. I've seen parts of the Illinois, Creighton and Indiana games. I was surprised we got throttled so badly by Indiana. I wish I had a better feel for this team. That's one of the reasons I'm asking the question in this poll. This is probably my worst year for following this team in a few decades. I blame Covid. I just don't feel like I could rattle off players and who's the best and who isn't like I'd have been able to do in years past. Anyway, I appreciate the people who have made an honest effort to provide their opinions to my poll. Thanks
  4. @HB I didn't see a way to do "check all that apply." If a poll can be done that way, I didn't see how to do it. I'll check with @hhcmatt.
  5. Next year, I would love to roll out a lineup that looks like this: PG Dalano Banton with a new-and-improved jump shot SG Bryce McGowens doing what 5-stars do SF Teddy Allen, slimmed and more explosive and a little more active on D -- OR -- SG Trey McGowens with a slightly upgraded jumper PF Lat Mayen, a little bulked up and more confident from behind the arc -- OR -- PF Trevor Lakes with better weight and still that killer jump shot C Eduardo Andre with a little more bulk and a lot more development and still some quality hands and Kay-Shay Tominaga lighting it up from off the bench. That's a roster that could win some games. It's also a roster that could score without Teddy Allen if he doesn't play defense.
  6. Thanks for the reply. I wasn't trying to slant the poll. I was trying to present the kinds of things I've been reading in the game threads. That's where the slanting is taking place. If you think there are issues that have been raised that aren't covered by what I've written, let me know and I can amend the poll to reflect it. Thanks
  7. Also, there might be more than one issue, right? So, it could be a combination of things like @redsteve alluded to above. BUT ... what I was hoping to see was a stratification. If you could only pick THE SINGLE BIGGEST ISSUE what would it be? And then you see one answer get maybe 32% of the vote, another answer 25% and 20%, etc. And then you maybe kind of begin to paint the picture, right? Maybe recruiting seems to be a bigger concern than Xs and Os. Or maybe it's mostly injuries and other factors seem less significant. Some things a coach has no control over; other things go right to the top. Where are we on this?
  8. Just FYI, I came up with the list of answers by curating the things I've seen others mention in game threads this season. They're like 3-2, with a conference win over Illinois, so it's still really early, but the angst on the game threads is the worst I've ever seen on the women's board. Correct me if you think I'm wrong on that. We lost for the howevermanieth consecutive time to Creighton and we just got drilled badly by Indiana. So, I'm curious why people think this is happening. I've heard some comments privately, having to do with the same kinds of things people say about Scott Frost -- not experienced at coaching at this level and brought an entire staff of people who similarly didn't have Power 5 chops -- but those comments don't speak for the entire board. I just wanted to know, of the people who have expressed strong concerns on the game threads (and there are many), what you think the problem is. I'm actually just really curious.
  9. That's pretty high praise, actually.
  10. Wonder what his mom had to say about all those missed 3-point attempts that would have given her son more assists? And she thought it was bad here?
  11. There's been a lot of discussion about concerns for the direction of the program on here lately. There could be lots of answers as to why the team seems to be struggling and, more significantly, why the direction of the program in general appears worrisome to many people. If you had to put your finger on it, what's your best guess as to the cause? I've heard individual comments, but I'm curious what the broader population of posters on this forum thinks.
  12. Just in case anyone wants to watch this game again, I'm posting the complete game on YouTube. You're welcome.
  13. It was admittedly a subtle dig at Iowans, but was I too subtle?
  14. I posted this in the Haymarket Hardwood forum because I thought it was a good illustration of the kind of action and ball movement and making the extra pass that gets shooters open that you might expect to see in a Hoiberg offense. But I guess it can be down here in the college basketball general forum. But their lefty PG's shot reminds me a lot of Keisei's shot. I could just see him dribbling behind screens like that kid and elevating for a three. In the two games where we scored over 100, what you see from Ft. Hays were the kinds of things we were doing -- driving the lane, kick to the corner, extra pass for an open three. In the couple of games we lost at home, we stopped making those extra passes and setting good screens to get teammates open looks. I think watching Ft. Hays St beat Kansas St is a good illustration of what playing like a team and firing on all cylinders can look like. And they obviously haven't been shooting that hot all year or they wouldn't have been 0-3 going into the game. So, it obviously helps when you get hot from deep. And it helps when you have multiple guys who are good shooters, like I expect we'll have next year. But look at the little things, too. Making smart plays, making that extra pass, setting solid screens to give a teammate room to get a shot off, and then just holding up your end of the deal and making the basket when your teammates set you up to get a shot. Their coach is in his 2nd year, just like Hoiberg.
  15. It's beyond Rothstein's "epitome of brutality" when the buy-game you lose is to an in-state D2 foe. And I realize this is Kansas State and Ft. Hays State, but I put it here because it's interesting what happens when you have multiple guys who can bury the three ball.
  16. Be nice. They're not all idiots. Some of them moved there from Nebraska.
  17. Hey, I thought I'd throw this out there: Congrats to one Ty Lue for being named head coach of the Clippers of Los Angeles! (Sorry if already posted.)
  18. If he could develop NBA range (and prove it during a college season), it seems like he'd be a lock to be a lottery pick. The only things he's missing are a reliable 3-point shot and some explosiveness, both of which he can work on.
  19. Not according to his mother.
  20. SHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Are you TRYING to get rid of Dalano? Ixnay on the Antonbay NBAway alktay, OKway?
  21. That strikes me as one of those correlation vs. causation deals. On the other hand, two-thirds of our three pointers came from players with mangy beards, so ...
  22. I read about his NBA scouting. They worry about his lateral quickness on defense.
  23. Also credit Banton for the assist on a cross-court pass that few PGs shorter than 6'9 would have had the vision to see or be able to execute. You're seeing why Banton is on NBA radars.
  24. And yet, it's reported that on December 14, mere days ago, Fred and his entire staff had a zoom meeting with Traudt. Someone's information somewhere must be off, because it sure as heck looks to me like we're recruiting him and he's still entertaining our offer.
  25. All I can say is he looked like Gary Coleman running around out there. When he got fouled by Eduardo Andre shooting that three, I was expecting him to step to the FT line and say "whatchu talkin' 'bout, Willis?"
