With USC's loss tonight-- we're now in a 5 way tie for 9th.
-
I know… I know. We’re Nebrasketball and historically we haven’t had nice things. But check out this tweet. Sure there’s a note in there about us. BUT I was more interested in the note about UCLA. “UCLA now T-4th nationally with 4 Q1A wins.” Ladies and Gents, we’ve got 3 Q1A wins already and a win over Maryland (if they’d stay top 15) would give us 4. But, even adding a 5th Q1 win over Maryland or Ohio State puts us in the upper echelon of teams with Q1 wins. We, unlike other years, have put together quite a strong resume. As long as we don’t stub our toe down the stretch, we’ll have no problem standing out.

Hope they are ready, because they'll be in the spotlight all season. The number of national accounts tweeting about that game was.... high.

The committee has historically favored teams who can win on the road. Huskers 4-5 in true road games, but have looked dominant many times!

I know there’s been many players with kids. While a funny caption, I think it does point more to the direction college athletics are going. Teams want old. Teams can pay old to stay in college. College is more or less another version of the G league now.

Cutting into that lead so quickly to start the second half did as much to inflate our guys as it did to deflate theirs. From that point on you could just tell that we were the hunters and UW was always on their heels. They started to force a few bad looks, rush shots, overthink and pass/dribble out of open looks, etc. For all of the faults our D philosophy may have, one thing it absolutely feeds off of is indecision. When teams overthink whether to pass, shoot, or dribble… even for just a second… the rotations are already there and you have to set up a whole new skip around. Also— I know there were a few grumblings about Sam starting and that if he was starting on a Big 10 team…. Yada. That dude has absolutely earned a starting role and is as confident as ever right now on O and D and is also playing well. He’s averaging 36 MPG during the past 4 games and his stats are perfect for a role/glue guy. 4.5 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 2 Assists/game, 1 steal/game, 100% FT, 40% FG, 37.5% 3Pt, but the biggest one for me? 0.75 TO/game He’s shooting fine, taking care of the ball, and playing confidently. He’s earned that starting spot. I believe he presents enough of a threat that he needs guarded but also one that will hurt you if you sag off him. This has allowed Rollie to blossom off the bench and be much more effective I think.

Best for both parties as I think it would have ended in a termination anyways.

One more to add to this... 4. Maryland vs. Ohio St: In our own conference. We play both teams twice. Ohio St is a lot more bubbly than Maryland currently. Ohio St is projected on of the last 8 teams in in a lot of brackets.

Ohhh… yes and no. Our metrics would certainly take a hit, but you also can’t hide things like our Q1 win total, Q1A wins, etc. I don't believe we would be “out” with one big loss. Also, as you get later and later into the year, it seems it’s usually harder to move up and down. There’s also things like this….

A number of bracketologists I’ve seen have talked about how much the bubble absolutely sucks this year. There are few good teams on the bubble. It’s why a team like Nebraska (with quality wins and quality wins away from home) could fare pretty well. I even saw one say that 3 more wins might put us in. Definitely disagree with that one but that statement does reaffirm my thoughts on only needing to get to 19 wins.

Rutgers probably pops up to a Q2 game after tonight’s win. So 7-8 tomorrow morning! Still in a really good position with the wins we have.

If we can make our freethrows, thanks for the free metrics boost I guess UW. -

D intensity definitely picked up the second half. Is Washington cool from the floor? Probably. But think it goes hand in hand. -

One who, supposedly, could be a competent 3 point shooter too. It’s not even like he’s a Shaq player. He can shoot the rock. It’s all mental. -

Up 4 with two flagrant FTs and the ball. Don’t score. Mark that down for later.
