Nebraska (12-14) vs. Butgers (16-9) Game Thread

Rutgers fans are LEAVING???? (That's what Kent & Jake are saying!) Kent/Jake say Rutgers Fans are giving them the Bird on their way out! (BUT, to be Fair, Kent & Jake are calling the game from up in the Nosebleed Section. I imagine it would be irritating to be sitting near an opponents announcers when they keep shouting "BANG-A-RANG" ) -

Tominaga Puts it IN!!! 32-30 -
That's fine, but, like most I struggle to discern what the questions are that are being asked at Press Conferences.

I dunno, a coach named Calamity just has a certain 'Ring' to it. (I could go for it )

I think we all believe the transparency of the WBB program is not what it 'Should' be. Some recruits are surprises, seemingly coming out of nowhere (Jessica Petrie, understandable but still a surprise), sometimes disappearing just as quickly (RS Tatiana Popa). I understand quick pick-ups in the portal, nevertheless finding out what offers we have out to new recruits is anything but transparent, often coming to light only when one happens to stumble across a prospective recruit tweeting they've received a scholarship offer. Much as I enjoy listening to Matt Coatney call the WBB games, his continual 'soft-ball' questions to Coach Amy are getting tiresome, as are her coach-speak answers. Matt: "Isn't that right Amy that ........." Coach Williams: "Yeah, Right Matt ......... " IIRC, Trinity Brady had concussion in a car accident her So. year HS. While a Husker she suffered a lower leg injury in Dec 2020, keeping her out of several games, and a couple of concussions requiring protocol. Dillard came to us from Texas Tech, IIRC having suffered an injury there, required hip surgery (to be performed @ Nebraska), subsequently tearing an ACL in practice. I don't think we'll see either on the floor again.

Like @Cazzie22 and @mwm89 I agree with your critique, but Mendelson is far from the only one who has trouble finishing in traffic (she is also an early enrolee, she otherwise would have been HS Sr instead of a college freshman). The rest of the critique seems largely coaching/player development related. I think we are a different team without the aggressive play of Allison Weidner, who, along with Sam, can strongly drive to the rim. For some reason we don't seem to be able to spread the floor as effectively as Michigan, allowing them to pack the paint and seem like most of our shots are through a forest of arms.
-
Hand it to Michigan, no doubt the better team! Treys (11-5) kept us in the Game, but better overall execution: Turnovers (18-10) and points off turnovers (6-19) and Points-in-the-paint (30-42) kept Michigan in the Lead.

TO @ 4:29 in the 3rd Q. Huskers by Four (largest lead was Six) (46-42) Lady Huskers shooting 50% from Three (9-18)
-
Kendall Moriarity make that Trey that gave us a lift.
-
Halftime Stats: Michigan lead by Five: 31-36 Seems like more of the same; Treys are keeping us in the game as long as they go in.
-
Stats after 1 Qtr: Not a good Quarter. If the treys are falling, we can hang with anyone and even win. BUT if they are not falling our offense is stagnant and we fall behind. Evidence is Points in the Paint: 8 for Mich vs 2 for Huskers. We are a completely different Team without Allison Weidner, she is another Haiby type, Fearless and Aggressive. We NEED a new offensive scheme and attitude. Lady Huskers are full of GRIT and No Quit as usual, but need better schemes. Michigan has been successful in packing the paint, forcing us to throw up wild shots that usually don't/won't go in, nor do we have any players who can make short range jumpers.
-
5-10 at the 1st TO. Not a good start. Five Turnovers. Huskers are forced into throwing up wild shots near the paint that don't even hit the rim.
