It is pretty clear that Hoiberg is coaching for his job. He is going to give the two starting guards all they can eat, rarely leaving the floor.

Not saying Griesel is as good as Scheierman but he certainly got the better of him in a landslide in the conference championship game to go to the dance. If only Baylor came here, this would be a lot more interesting season. If we got him and that Kansas St. kid we really would have had something. But I digress. This is Nebrasketball after all.

Would like to see us recruit some quick jumping type big men. We are going to have to win with defense here. Not sure if Hoiberg is capable of winning with that style of basketball but he is trying it at least. I was encouraged for the most part. We need to recruit rim protection for it to work though. We have absolutely none and that will be an achilles heel. At the end of the day, it will be more fun watching us compete by playing hard and lose plenty than watching us underachieve and not try on defense and lose. I still stand on the island that we will be better than most here think, but there are obvious limitations on the ceiling of this bunch. We will need Keisei shooting out there a lot IMO. He does understand defensive positioning but his limitations on that end don't mesh well with having no rim protection. Fred going to have to thread the needle perfectly to make this work well.

We are going to be so much better than most people here think. Simply trying very hard and having guys that have fire taking the defensive end of the court seriously will help so much. It is also impossible to run when getting the ball out of the hoop unless you are Per Stumer. It obviously won't be an offensively gifted bunch, but Fred can coach offense and generate shots. We will get open shots. I am looking forward to watching us play as good of defense as we have seen since Craig Smith left.

He does have stability here in a different sense. A lot of family and friends in Nebraska, where his dad is from. We could really use this great young man on and off the court.

We made the final three. He cancelled this weekend visit to NW. It is Nebraska, Notre Dame or Davidson.

2nd your thoughts on Hansen. Also worries me a little now that you mention it, as someone posted something about a potential hire being "one of the good guys in college basketball" and he is a nice guy seemingly. Just can't coach very well.

I just suffered through the replay of this as I do every preseason game for scouting purposes. Heard the name but it didn't register to me that it was him. Still cannot believe he didn't shoot the ball better while here. Had a nice looking stroke but it never went in.

Is there a reason that there cannot be any speculation on rumored hires?

Well since the (we are listed first and it is not in alphabetical order) theory has never worked here is to hoping being listed last does.

This would be a horrific hire and thankfully one that would never be considered.

One benefit is Nebraska potentially having better connections to the Southern California region than most of the current league. Damn I miss the good old days of the gas station Saturday basketball Big 8 doubleheaders though.

I don’t think so. Personally, I am not predicting that we will have one, just stating that I feel we must have one if we are to do well in the near future.

Elite. We aren’t going to be winning a lot of beauty contests anytime soon.

Play elite defense is the only way we are likely to be in top half. Some will say it is hard to watch. I say playing no defense before some coaching responsibility shifts was much tougher to watch.

While I don't agree with Steve Kerr political antics(prefer sports left to get away from that stuff much like this message board), that guy can flat out coach. The Warriors players are the only ones you hear mentioned, but there is no way they get this run done without amazing adjustments and coaching by Kerr.

I have watched every second of every NBA playoff game for scouting purposes. Many on DVR obviously. Has makings of a deep very good series.

Respect your thoughts in general. Curious if you have any further insight or just a gut feeling type thing.

Softball not in the discussion. Won a big ten championship in a 6 or 7 bid league. Got a tough spot to play in and didn't play at highest ability that weekend.

I also was going to mention keisei for what it is worth, presuming he is here. He has obvious limitations but can shoot the heck out if it and I think he will do a better job of doing just that in a more structured situation.
