First-round games are this week, so if the students show up, should be good. Second-round game, if at home, might not have quite the same energy if it's over Spring Break. This isn't a football scrimmage, you know.
The time for pouting is OVER!!!
NYC Buckets has us as a NO. 2 seed to St. Mary's as the NO. 1 seed.
We can win this quadrant (that's a curse word now):
1. Saint Mary’s8. Hampton4. Boise St.5. Washington3. Oklahoma St.6. Western Kentucky2. Nebraska7. Wagner
Thirteen.
And Five.
In the Big F*cking Ten.
It's all a little hard to fathom, really. Certainly I know the RPI, BPI, SOR, SOS, WAB and EIEIO numbers, but really.
Thirteen. And Five. In the Big F*cking Ten.
Damn.
If only Jordy had played at Penn State. If only I had chosen to go to Champaign to support the team instead of vacationing in Mexico. If only my lucky sweater hadn't developed a hole in the arm. So close.
I think "puzzling losses" should be a factor. If you have more than two "puzzling losses," you should be out.
When I look at NU's schedule, the only real "puzzling loss" is at Illinois. The rest are perfectly understandable: one-point last-minute loss at home to a No. 1 national seed, eight losses on the road to teams with 100 RPI or lower, including four losses to teams likely seeded 1 to 3 in the tournament.
So was I. I think we sat together for the '78 title. I remember sitting next to Ed helping with the PA for Class D at East during the '79 tournament, when O. Northwest upset East. Kind of glad I missed that one.
