  1. Went to see the Hawks play ... I forget — suffice to say it was one of those crappy teams on their non-conference home schedule. Anyway, Fran got peeved because (guessing here) his Gatorade wasn't cold enough. The 11-year-old and 10-year-old sons of my friend immediately bolted from their seats and pointed at Fran, turned around to face us and screamed "FRANGER! FRANGER!" I thought it was funny.

  4. The BJs looked like $100,000 out there today.
  5. Creighton leading Providence. I'm so conflicted.
  6. Sunday's games: Lipscomb at Clemson, 2 p.m., ACC Network (CU up 46-27 at half) Mount Saint Mary's at Minnesota, 3 p.m., ESPNU Michigan 74, Binghampton 52 Columbia at Northwestern, 4 p.m., BTN+ Denver at Western Illinois, 4:30 p.m. William Woods at Missouri State, 5 p.m., ESPN+ Monday's game: Creighton at Providence, 3 p.m., FS1 Tuesday's game: Fullerton at Washington, 9 p.m., Pac-12 Network
  7. Maryland on a 7-0 run against Radford to trim a 19-10 deficit to 19-17. Terps not shooting well. Radford hasn't scored in about six minutes. 7:45 left in first half.
  8. Do you really have to refer to everybody as "Allen Junior" or "Watson Junior" or "Palmer Junior" or "Copeland Junior"?
  9. Saturday's Games: High Point at Ohio State, 11 a.m. BTN UMBC at Penn State, noon, BTN+ Northern Illinois at Michigan State, 1 p.m. BTN Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Oklahoma State, 1 p.m., FS OK FAU at Illinois, 2 p.m. BTN+ Maine at Rutgers, 2 p.m. BTN+ Belmont at Purdue, 3:30 p.m. FS1 Louisiana at SE Louisiana, 4 p.m. Wisconsin at W. 10. I drink my sorrows.
  11. I forget. Which one makes whiskey? That one.
  12. Damn right. Especially when the college players are 23, 22, 21, 20 and 20 years old (Copeland, JPJ, Glynn turns 22 in March, Zay turns 21 on Feb. 3, Tom).
  13. NWU is in the same conference as Coe College, Creighton's most recent foe. How'd that go? Of course, Wesleyan is the defending national champs.
  14. The Fighting Hornets already have three wins this year. One is against a rock formation or a terrier (Cairn) and another is against Delaware (big rivalry win). But this one is my favorite:
  15. Road games remaining ranked by mostly likely NU victory to least likely: Rutgers Illinois Penn State Iowa Maryland Indiana Purdue Michigan State Michigan I think we can win four of those, starting with Rutgers, Illinois and Penn State, plus one of the next two over Iowa or Maryland. Combine that with 9-1 at home, that's 23-8, 13-7. I like @Nebrasketball1979's confidence in our going 14-6, though, and could even see us at 15-5 if things break right. That written, I'll take 11-9 and an eight seed if that's where this road leads.
  16. Remember, the Titans won 20 last year and made the Dance.
  17. Watching Michigan slog through a holiday home game against Realtime RPI #265 Air Force. It happens. And we beat the Realtime RPI #226 by 24.
  18. They're 7-4. Last game was Dec. 15, a 75-63 win against Minnesota-Duluth. They shoot 43 percent from 3, and 81 percent from the line. Leading scorer is Ryan Bruggeman at 23.2 ppg. He's a 6-0 sophomore from Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. LIKELY STARTERS Ryan Bruggeman, 6-0, So. Taylor Schafer, 6-3, Sr. (12.1 ppg) Kenny Byers, 6-4, So. (11.7 ppg) Michael Lee, 6-6, Sr. Steven McNease, 6-6 Sr. They'll go 8 deep.
  19. This Fullerton team won 20 games last year and returns its top four scorers.
  20. No big runs, but we're up by 17 at the under-16 timeout. That's what really talented teams do even when it feels like they're playing sluggishly.
  21. Wang getting blocked. That's always frustrating.
  22. Saturday's games: Grambling at Wisconsin, 11 a.m. BTN Savannah State at Iowa, noon, BTN+ Columbia at Rutgers, noon Clemson at South Carolina, 1 p.m. ESPN 2 SE Louisiana at Bradley, 1 p.m. ESPN+ UCLA vs. Ohio State, 2 p.m. CBS Air Force at Michigan, 3 p.m. BTN Seton Hall at Maryland, 4:30 p.m. FS1 Jacksonville at Indiana, 5 p.m. BTN Illinois vs. Missouri, 7 p.m. BTN Mississippi Valley State at Grand Canyon, 8 p.m. ESPN3
