Norm Peterson Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 Looking at the link in Swan's thread on ESPN rankings, I saw this guy ranked somewhere just below Fuller as, I think, the #15 center prospect. According to Rivals, we're listed with him as one of many schools in which he has medium interest. He's apparently a 2013 recruit but not signed. He looks like a pretty solid prospect in this video. Anyone know anything about him? Quote
uneblinstu Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 Looking at the three recruiting services, it doesn't appear as though we've offered him. At least not yet. Quote
FredsSlacks Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 Yea. I don't think we offered him. Atewe must be our main target right now. You would think that after today's game we would want to take 2 big men in this class. Quote
uneblinstu Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 Coach has basically said as much. Wouldn't be shocked if that answer doesn't come through the HS ranks, tho. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted December 16, 2012 Author Report Posted December 16, 2012 From the video, I like the fact that you have a 6'9" kid getting a steal and then dribbling half the length of the court and dunking it. Yeah, that might not sound like such a big deal for a 6'9" kid to dunk it. And, sure, lots of people would say you can't learn much from watching such a short clip. BUT ... in that short clip, he shows: 1) terrific agility for a guy his size, which a player either has or doesn't have -- and he has it; 2) ball handling ability in the open floor; 3) the ability to take it quickly to the hoop if there's an open driving lane (something we've wished a couple of current Huskers could/would do); and 4) a good, strong finish. Other aspects of his game I see in the video: I like his active rebounding style, and he's using two hands; he's seems to have good timing and hand-eye coordination; he appears to have some polish in his low post game, where he backed another kid into the post and shot a soft rightie hook over him; love his freethrow shooting form. If this kid is at all interested in us, I think he's offer-worthy. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 I guess I will trust you on this one Norm. He does not look to me as if he can step in and play major minutes in year one. If that is what we are after, then by all means, we can/should go after him. He looks to be about 30 lbs plus/minus of strength away from being that major contributor. Again, go get him for the future. But if we want to make a significant step next year, we need another big man, who can contribute major minutes. I do not see this young man as that type of recruit. I do not see this young man as that type of recruit. and you would be correct cwg. Norm I saw him this summer. He played for Mac Irvin and started for them when they decided to play their "B" squad. He was basically non-existent even though he was taller than any player he played against. He has size but doesnt use it to his advantage. He has a great build on him but I truly think he is a kid that would probably either start out at a mid level MVC school like Illinois State or a Drake, or a team takes him as a stretch and he ends up being a bench/practice player and transfers for playing time. Though we need bodies, he is not one I would invest in personally, even after watching yesterdays lackluster performance. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted December 17, 2012 Author Report Posted December 17, 2012 Thanks, Kamdy. I knew you'd know more about him. A lot of being a successful big man is about the size of the fight in the dog. And if there's no fight in him, it doesn't matter how tall he is. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted December 17, 2012 Author Report Posted December 17, 2012 According to ESPN's ratings, he's 6'9" and 235# and holds offers from Minnesota, Depaul, Illinois, Northwestern, Kansas State, Oregon State, Penn State, UCLA, USC and Washington State. That's a decent set of offers. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted December 17, 2012 Report Posted December 17, 2012 I really wanted to record the game when I went to see Mac Irvin since so many names we are linked to at some point were on that team but didnt want to be "that guy" or have parents wonder why I was recording high school kids playing basketball. lol Quote
Norm Peterson Posted December 17, 2012 Author Report Posted December 17, 2012 I wouldn't have minded you being "that guy." In fact, I would encourage it. Next time around, whip out that ol' camera and start filming. Tell people sitting nearby that you had some "friends" who couldn't be there and you wanted them to be able to see the game. Quote
Red Rum Posted December 17, 2012 Report Posted December 17, 2012 Best muzak I've heard in a highlight video so far Quote
