No. 16 Huskers Close Exhibition Season with No. 10 Golden Bears

The No. 16 Nebraska women’s basketball team closes its two-game exhibition schedule by welcoming the NCAA Division II No. 10 Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears to Pinnacle Bank Arena, Sunday at 2 p.m.

The game will be the first meeting between the Huskers and Golden Bears and will feature free live audio from the Husker Sports Network on Huskers.com. No TV or live video will be available.

Sunday’s matchup between Nebraska and Concordia-St. Paul should offer another one of NCAA Division II’s best teams. The Golden Bears were ranked No. 10 nationally in both the WBCA Preseason Top 25 and the Women’s Division II Bulletin Top 25. The Golden Bears finished with a 28-9 overall record, while advancing to the 2014 NCAA Division II Elite Eight. Concordia-St. Paul has advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament 10 times in the past 12 years. Last season, the Bears beat Wayne State twice during the regular season.

Concordia-St. Paul must replace a pair of double-digit scorers from last season but returns three starters and 10 letterwinners, including leading scorer and rebounder Anika Whiting. The Golden Bears also return senior starter Ameshia Kearney and junior starter Kionda Nicks.

Concordia-St. Paul averaged 70 points per game last year, while surrendering 62.1 points per contest. Sunday’s game marks Nebraska’s first meeting in school history with Concordia-St. Paul.

Hailie Sample enters her senior season ranked No. 26 on the Nebraska career rebound list with 495.

Minnesota has had two secret scrimmage games instead of exhibition games now like the Husker men had a week ago against K-State where media isn't allowed and statistics aren't to be revealed. They played their second scrimmage against Concordia St. Paul, the team that the Huskers play Sunday afternoon, last Friday afternoon and beat them 102-71. There was a box score posted on line but since has been taken down.

That was a BIG OOPS could Minny get into trouble for that ?

I don't know if this picture was taken today or last week, I assume today. But it the Huskers had a visitor.https://twitter.com/Calstars/status/531523969564672000

That's Evina Westbrook from South Salem High School in Salem, Ore. She and her mom sat with all our 2015 recruits this afternoon. Would be a fantastic get should we land her. She's in the 2017 class. One to keep an eye on.

And from that picture it looks like she around 6 to 6'1" is she a  guard forward ?

Huskers win 78-46. Concordia is a good team just a little out-manned this afternoon. I thought Concordia was a better team than Wayne St. As a team the Huskers looked alot better than a week ago. Hope we continue to see improvement as we get into the season.

The difference is like night and day the way Brandi Jeffery is playing from last season. Good to have her playing at a high level going into the season. Very impressed with what we're seeing out of her!!

Emily finishes with a double double and steady as always. Hailie S with some good hustle plays and some fantastic rebounds. She's got her work cut out for her this year guarding the opposing post. But she's holding her own and doing a great job. So glad we got a player with her caliber of defense to do that for us.

Rachel T finished with 19 which led the team, but you could tell she wasn't happy with the way she played. She missed some shots that she usually makes and it looked liked she knew she could do better. Still she played a good game.

Freshmen have improved in just one week. If you have yet to make a game Natalie Romeo is a must see. Great hustle out the young one today. Couple of great passes for assists and good job on the defensive end. She's going to be a good one for us. Just needs more experience.

Allie Havers looked ten times better than a week ago. The kid put up two count-em two hook shots and made both of them and came away with some good looking rebounds. Anya showed some flashes of what she might be able to become. Think it might help to get her out of that mask. Kaylee Page got into foul trouble but looks to be getting more comfortable being out there. She's having to guard smaller players which will take a little time to get used to.

Really like what Jasmine Cincore did by putting the ball on the floor and taking it to the bucket. She made good work of her time on the court. Little Emily Wood got to see some action also. Gotta pull for that kid she's like the little engine that could. Hope she gets some playing time as we go forward! Chandler Smith still on the sidelines with her foot in a boot.

4467 was the attendance. And it was announced that the Pepperdine game next Saturday will tip-off at 11:00 am.

She's 6' and I'm guessing we're recruiting her as a wing. She's rated as the 4th best wing in the 2017 class.

I was not at the first exhibition so I was glad I could see the new faces in action yesterday. The Huskers did not shoot very well especially from deep but we rebounded well against a team with a lot of size on the interior. Concordia had the size of a B1G squad but not the speed, which is where we took advantage. We got out on the fastbreak a bunch in the first half which was fun to see Tee push the ball up the floor and we had some good finishes around the basket on some nifty passes

I thought Emily and Rachel looked good, both scoring in double digits. Great job on the boards for Emily who held her own against the Bears bigs. Brandi looks like she had a good offseason and is going to be a major contributor.

I was most looking forward to seeing who who our first 4 off the bench would be and who is going to help us this year. I was really happy to see Allie & Natalie get good minutes and play well. It was nice to see Allie knock down some shots from the block and another on the baseline from about 12 feet. Sounds like Havers confidence is getting better each game.

Natalie did some good things too and played 21 mins. She reminds me of Lindsay Moore out there. I think the next 2 off the bench were Anya and Kaylee. Both looked a little nervous with Kaylee getting 4 fouls in 8 minutes and air balling a 3. I think all Anyas points were free throws but she hung tough in there. I wasnt expecting her to shoot two 3 pointers but she did.

I think Chandler is going to make her way into the top 8 player rotation when she is healthy. I believe she said she is not experiencing pain anymore in the foot and should be practicing soon.

Lastly Connie said in her post game comments that she will probably use a bunch of different lineups this year depending on the opponent. Looking forward to two games this weekend and seeing some more action. GBR!
