Guards that can't get to the free throw line.

Uh, what? One of the strong points of this team is getting to the FT line.

Compared to the last two years it's night and day difference and it's not just the rule changes.

I went and looked at the stats it has stats for 11 games. And here are the free throw stats for the 4 guards and the free throws per game for the season if this is an upgrade what was going on in the past ?

Free throws games played free throws per game

Biggs 38 9 4.222

Gallegos 0 9 0.000

Webster 53 11 4.818

Parker 5 11 0.454

Total

9.494

So Petteway isn't a guard? Interesting. He handles the ball up top quite a bit, even brings it up the floor on occasion.

The roster lists him as a forward, so that's why he is not included. but his line is 62 in 11 games for a 5.636 avg. and if you include him the avg per game goes up to 16.463

So the team is still getting to the line more than in the past, right? I think that should be of more concern than which positions are getting to the line.

FTs per game? Try FTs per time played.

Even with that flawed view look at the FT rates of the guys that were here (Gallegos) vs the guy recruited by Doc (Parker) vs the two guys Miles brought in (Biggs/Webster).  The number of minutes Hawkins has played doesn't really give me any real feel for him so far.

Here are their minutes played and FT/minute rates

Biggs    - 169 - 0.225

Webster  - 321 - 0.165

Hawkins  -  36 - 0.111

Parker   - 175 - 0.029

Gallegos - 268 - 0.007

Here are the Minnesota players

An Hollins - 393 0.181
Mathieu    - 370 0.127
Au Hollins - 413 0.099
Smith      - 257 0.093

FT/FGA is a great metric for determining your overall success rate.  Having FT attempts coming from either guards, forwards, or centers is irrelevant as long as they're coming.  If the forwards are the guys drawing the contact because we have guards that can kill it from the 3 point line, that would be a great reason to not have guards who draw contact.  In other words, if Ray Gallegos could shoot 50% from 3pt range, I wouldn't care that he's only shot 2 FT the ENTIRE SEASON.

This year we're shooting 26 FT/game

Last year it was 14 FT/game

Two years ago it was 14.5/game

To contrast, here is the last 3 from Minnesota

23.7 FT/game

22.5 FT/game

20.2 FT/game

It's not a stretch for me to say that Biggs and Webster are the best foul drawing guards since Ade in 2009 and more aptly Jason Dourisseau in 2006.

Actually I had forgotten about Hawkins and added him after the fact. As far as the free throws from the past two years they were't available on Huskers .com or a least I couldn't find so thanks for that and for your break down of the free throws dimes.
