Since not much is going on here and I have a few minutes to kill, let's take a trip down memory lane. The last time these teams met was in a first round NIT game at BDSC. I remember a couple of things about the game which was in Danny Nee's third year. First, Alan Bannister, the 7'4" center for AS had played for Oklahoma State before transferring and was the tallest player ever to perform at BSDC, I think. Second, a little AS guard had a chance to win the game with freethrows as time expired and missed them, collapsing in tears at the game's end as a Nebraska student who looked like he was from India rushed the court to taunt him as he lay at the free throw line. Anyone else remember that game?

This might be a good time to remember that Danny started out going to the NIT with Moe's players his first year when that tourney was much easier to get into. His second year he won 13 games, won 17 his third year, 10 in his fourth and finally in his fifth he began his legendary (for NU) NCAA run.

Another Nebraska fact I ran across as I was researching that year is that the winner of the NIT in 1989 was St. Johns and the MVP was Jayson Williams, future NBA star, who was convicted of manslaughter for killing a man by fooling around with a loaded gun at his mansion in 2002. One of the witnesses to that incident was one of Creighton's all time stars, Mr Benoit Benjamin.
