KNTK - Gaskins & Stephens:  Nebrasketball: Cornish Sweepstakes & Miles Interviews McDermott

Top 100 recruit Jordan Cornish (wing) is in Lincoln, as the Huskers try to keep him away from UNLV & Wake Forest. What immediate impact would he make if he committed? Also, KETV in Omaha gave Tim Miles the mic to interview Creighton coach Greg McDermott, and magic happened (well, entertainment, at least).

An Early Look at the 2014-15 Big Ten Player of the Year Candidates - BT Powerhouse

http://www.btpowerhouse.com/2014/5/16/5715786/an-early-look-at-the-2014-15-big-ten-player-of-the-year-candidates

2. Terran Petteway, Nebraska

Is the world ready for a Big Ten POY to come from Nebraska? Obviously, no one from Nebraska has won this award in the Big Ten, since they've only been in the conference for a hot second, but they do have one Big 12 POY - the immortal Venson Hamilton. Could Petteway be the next Venson Hamilton?

Petteway led the B1G in scoring with 18.1 points a game, and did so both inside and outside. That prolific scoring will only improve next season because the Hoosiers aren't losing any real contributors. His buddy Shavon Shields will support him, and Tim Miles could be creating something special for next season. But again, will voters respond to Petteway's success? You could make the argument that he's the most important player in the Big Ten, and very well may be the best player. But part of me feels like voters won't respect him unless Nebraska is competing for a Big Ten title. Luckily for Petteway, they'll be up there. If Petteway singlehandedly proves that Nebraska deserves to be up there with Wisconsin and Michigan and Michigan State, I think voters will really appreciate that.

Ranking The Best Big Ten Basketball Venues - BT Powerhouse

11. Pinnacle Bank Arena - All-Time Record: 15-1 (.9375): The all new Pinnacle Bank Arena misses the cut for the Top 10 but the Nebraska Cornhuskers sure loved their new confines this past season. Recording just one defeat in Lincoln, the Huskers were able to push themselves into the NCAA Tournament behind a rabid group of fans whose energy was hard to come by in years past. If Pinnacle Bank continues to play a strong home court advantage going forward, this state of the art venue can easily shoot its way up the rankings next time.

Big Ten 2012-2013 Men's Basketball APR Scores - Indiana Leads - BT Powerhouse

http://www.btpowerhouse.com/2014/5/16/5718926/big-ten-2012-2013-mens-basketball-apr-scores-indiana-leads

Every Division I sports team calculates its APR each academic year. Scholarship student-athletes each semester receive one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. Teams scoring below certain thresholds can face consequences, including practice restrictions and playing season reductions. Rates are an average of the past four years' performance. National aggregates are based on all teams with usable data at the time of analysis.

In order to compete in the 2014-15 postseason, teams must achieve either a 930 multi-year APR or a 940 average over the most recent two years. This approach represents the next step in a phased-in move to a standard 930 benchmark, which will be in place for most schools with next year's announcement of 2013-14 data collected in the fall of 2014.

When Discussing Sites For the Big Ten Basketball Tournament, Why Not Omaha? - Corn Nation

But for basketball, rotating the game around seems to the Big Ten's plan.  They'll continue to play in Chicago and Indianapolis, and probably more often than not.  But Washington is in the mix.  So will New York City, before too long.  Where else?

Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis wants Detroit in the mix as well. It makes sense, as the Palace of Auburn Hills seats over 23,000.  And it's still somewhat central.

Another city was mentioned this week as well.  It's not centrally located. In fact, it's on the edge as well.

Omaha.

(That whoosh you just heard was Creighton fans rushing to put tickets up for sale on StubHub.  Sorry guys, but since Creighton won't have any involvement with this event, you won't be able to have tickets to scalp. You'll have to find another way to make the payments on your Lexus.)

Where Can Tim Miles Take Nebraska? - BT Powerhouse

http://www.btpowerhouse.com/2014/5/18/5726720/ncaa-big-ten-nebraska-where-can-tim-miles-take-cornhuskers

The Nebraska job isn't an easy one. Firstly, you're in Nebraska. It's not a basketball hotbed nor is it easy to attract recruits there. With zero NCAA tournament wins, there isn't much basketball history in Lincoln either. Nebraska does have several things going for the basketball program. Pinnacle Bank Arena, the Cornhuskers' immaculate new home court, just opened in 2013, and with the decline of the Big 12, the move to the Big Ten comes at the right time.

The Cornhuskers only lose one key contributor, in Ray Gallegos, going into 2014-15. There's no reason they shouldn't be able to get another tourney bid. The question is can they keep that up and perhaps become a competitor in the big dance. So far, Miles hasn't brought in many high-caliber recruits. He added a bunch of 3-stars in 2013 and brings in one 2-star and one 3-star in the class of 2014. The recruiting is going to have to improve for Nebraska to make the dance consistently.
