Nebraska (10-12) vs. USC (13-9) Series Game Thread

Jasa got absolutely squeezed.  Should have been out of this inning with no damage.

Our weekend play in a nutshell.  We get squeezed.  Rattles us.  Try to pick off a baserunner with nobody covering. Make a good stop, but can't get the ball out of the glove.

Now, a chopper we can't make a play.  Down 5 - 4.  Now, the ump decides to not squeeze us.

2 pitches by Clark in the last at bat were called strikes in the exact same spot as Jasa's that was called a ball.

Can we get pissed, and start destroying the baseball?

I think we may have used all our good juju in last year's Big 10 tournament.

Our baseball IQ might be in the negative area.  Brumbaugh swings at ball 4 to protect Nunez.  Taking the pitch would have protected him even more.  Now, instead of 3rd and 2nd with 1 out after a swinging bunt by Stone.  We have a runner at 3rd with 2 outs.  The fly ball would have scored a run instead of being the 3rd out.  Fundamentals.

We are beyond stupid.  Bolt needs to be fired, and take the whole staff with him.  He needs to walk home from California.

I didn't think that if a infield fly rule was in effect that the runners could advance?

It looked like he meant to do that.

They can advance at their own risk either by tagging after a catch or after the ball hits the ground - can't believe we pulled off the hidden ball trick and the "let's drop the infield fly on purpose" trick in the same week.  Usually it's the West Coast teams that try to pull that stuff, so they should be ready for it. Can't believe the runner took off for 3rd - never, never, never make the last out at 3rd. Wow.

 

Those were some clutch at bats in the 9th - we finally fought in the late innings and against a really good closer. Hope we can keep the momentum going.

 

And nice to see us use Broderick multiple innings to keep the game close - that was huge. Feels good!

Actually,  if he took off running and the ball wasn't caught.  He could score.  He only has to tag if the infielder catches the ball.  If he doesn't catch it, the baserunner doesn't even have to tag.

Weird ending. Runners can try to advance at their own risk. That was a significant USC blunder, no doubt!

If this is the case, what good is the infield fly rule?
