This might be the best outcome for the pitching staff for now, as Walsh is probably going to have to start this weekend. We'll see if he just jumps in on Friday to keep Horn & Brockett on Saturday and Sunday or if they move Horn to Friday. Might be better to split lefties Walsh & Brockett with a hard throwing righty in the middle, but we'll see.

I don't think they've decided what to do for certain - I think it's safe to say the initial diagnosis wasn't good - it's not unusual in a case like this to get more than one doctor's opinion, though. 

 

But for a young man who has a pro future, they'd be crazy to push it, so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to shut him down for several weeks at least. 

 

Now whether not pitching anymore this spring affects his 2025 draft status, I don't know. An injury probably will scare some teams. They'll want to see him throw. It just takes one team that doesn't care about it, though.

 

Good news for him is that he still has one more season if he needs it. A lot of different factors to weigh.

Schedule change for this weekend - Friday game postponed to DH Saturday.

 

All things considered -- time of the year, weather we had a few days ago -- we're probably fortunate to be able to get these games in. 

 

B1G needs to do some different things with its scheduling. Asking northern teams to host conference games every year in early March is not a great idea.

 

Either invite another team (Oregon St) and get to 18 so we don't need byes and can start conference play the 3rd weekend in March or play some conference games out west in the first 4 weeks.

Other B1G games this weekend:

• Indiana at Penn St
• Iowa at Rutgers
• UCLA at Maryland
• Michigan at Illinois
• Purdue at Minnesota
• Oregon at USC

 

Mich St, Ohio St, and NW have 'byes'

I think it's a great idea to add Oregon St. for baseball. The B1G has added various teams for random sports, so there is some precedent that it could be done. It would make way too much sense, so there's no way they'd entertain it, lol.

I know it's been brought up here before too, but I liked the idea of 4 team pods early in the year too. Some of the west coast schools could host those as a "weekend series"
