Stole that one - wow! I was afraid we might sleepwalk through this one, and we did for 8 innings on offense and defense. Always better to wake up late than never - much nicer to learn the lesson of always being ready to play with a W, too.

Christo pitched great again and deserved much better from his teammates. That's probably the biggest takeaway, other than the final result, that he appears to be ready for a big role this season. Having an arm like his in the weekend rotation makes us a much better team for sure. Glad to see Frahm get a chance on the bump today, even though it was a little rocky. He has high-end arm talent, too, and we're going to need him as the season goes along.

And great to see Timmerman get that last out - big for his confidence after last weekend.

Need Sears to eat some innings tomorrow after using so many guys today. Or we need Friday's rainy weather forecast to be accurate, because we could be headed for a Saturday DH, which would give the bullpen a break at least tomorrow.

I was kinda counting on Christo to nut it up this year. Glad to see he's doing his part. Our high-end trajectory is much higher with him as an ace of the staff. And that back-end being a dude with a 10 ERA slamming the door shut with 2 on & 2 out is a nice benefit of these early-season roadies. The team sweating it out will test their mettle, this time they passed it. Need to be better early on so the late-game heroics aren't a necessity since you certainly can't expect that night-in and night-out. GBR!!

Well that sucks. 3 game weekend now. Not sure why there's no double-header Saturday, but all the start times this weekend have been odd, so maybe C of C has some conflicts around campus or at the ballpark.

That’s kind of ridiculous.  There shouldn’t be any reason we can’t play a DH tomorrow unless there are park conflicts.  But it’s so early in the year, there can’t be HA conflicts already right?

A small school like that may only have so many staff people / volunteers to handle concessions, ticket scanning, security, etc, so they can't host two events at the same time. That'd be my guess. It sucks, but it's not uncommon.

After the way they lost yesterday, no baseball coach on the planet would voluntarily give up a chance to get some revenge, so this had to be a decision made way above the baseball program.

Bolt has not yet been a coach to schedule a one-off home game midweek later in the year to make up for early cancellations. However, since we're only playing Omaha once this year, there might be a chance to add a 2nd game against the Mavs somewhere. Omaha is off to a horrible start, though, so it's probably not worth the RPI hit unless we to go Omaha and make it a road game.

Probably the best solution with the nice weather, maybe we add a one-off game this Tuesday or Wednesday at home against a non-D1 team. Then there's no RPI associated with it and we get some guys at bats and innings who haven't played much. Just like we used to do in the old days. 😁 When Sanders was here, and when you could start playing games Jan. 1, Wayne State and Peru State used to consider Buck Beltzer a 2nd home in January and February when the weather was nice.

We've won 10 games coming from a 9th inning deficit over the previous 11 full seasons, and now we do it in back to back games. Crazy.

Maybe the guys could start the offense a little earlier tomorrow? 😂

I hope so.  I don’t need the baseball stress yet with basketball still going on.

Yeah, they've crammed a whole season's worth of late inning stress in the last 3 games

  • Blow a 7-run lead before scoring the winning runs in the 8th on a passed ball and steal of home
  • Overcome a 4-run 9th inning deficit to win in extras on a grounder to a drawn-in infield
  • Overcome a 3-run 8th inning deficit and 1-run 9th inning deficit

And that's on top of opening weekend where we lose a game where we were one strike away from winning it, plus we lose a game that was tied going into the 9th.

That's a pretty strong pattern. Could be a season's worth of crazy finishes on deck.
