Our last Conference “Title” in Hoops was the ‘94 Big 8 Tournament. What’s even more shocking is our last Conference title in Football was ‘99. Twenty years and NO hardware in either sport (including ‘96 NIT) that’s so, so NOT OK.

The competitive landscape has changed around us in both sports and we're just now crawling our way to catch up. We had much success in football because of our national exposure (every school, even Rice University gets that now), we were at the forefront of a strength and conditioning program so we were faster and stronger than any opponent at every position (other schools caught up), facilities and other amenities improved at other schools so now there has been much more competition across each conference, and corruption has found its way into the two sports and some schools have decided to avoid it vs. embrace it (and it's not like we were the cleanest program in the 90s for either sport).

Hopefully we're on the right path to making the right strides to legitimize both of our major men's athletic programs now.

Very true, plus TV money has leveled the playing field. Back in the day your Athletic Dept. budget was funded mainly thru ticket revenue where we held a HUGE advantage. Now every B1G school gets roughly 50 million dollars.
